  1. Log it up for firewood, bearing in mind that once you have done so, a thread will appear on here with some one requesting Poplar to restore a cruck frame or deck a cart..... If it was mine I would mill it up for cladding.
  2. Excessive wear in the band wheels? Is it possible any welds have cracked allowing the band wheels to move towards each other. I can only imagine the problem id down to loss of tension in the band. I would be interested to see some film of the ripsaw in use. Chris
  3. Sounds like the Ivy had already done the damage if the chimney stack collapsed.. Still, I would like to have observed how the conversation with the client went........
  4. Keep watching the auction sites....
  5. Surely its a case of thinking aboult how to hold the log to stop it moving if you want to cut a log that small on a horizontal bandsaw. Some of the beefier vertical bandsaws would allow you to plank logs of that size. Logging bandsaws spec sheet - Spectrum Plant Also Atika make a couple of big site saws that could be used for ripping. Belle ATIKA BTH 400 450mm Contsruction Grade Wood Circular Saw Bench 230v | eBay I think the logs you want to mill would be doable with the Turbosawmill [ame] [/ame] And I've just found this mill which I hadn't seen before whilst looking for the Turbosawmill link, [ame] [/ame] Perhaps a bit more than you need. I agree with you that there is a need for being able to use good quality but either small volume or small size timber. There is certainly growing consumer interest in things that are sourced locally. The farming sector is doing a really good job about convincing the public to buy local. Why is the forestry sector not doing the same, the door has already been opened..... Chris On my fourth favourite soapbox subject....
  6. Axminster Tools offer a wide variety of sanders amongst other things. This is comparable to the one on ebay: Axminster Trade Series BDS-612 Belt & Disc Sander - Belt & Disc Sanders - Sanders - Wood Working | Axminster Tools & Machinery However if just going for a disc sander then they also offer this velcro system which makes changing discs easy: Hermes Heavy-Duty Self-Adhesive Velcro Disc - Abrasive Discs - Abrasives - Fixing, Gluing & Finishing | Axminster Tools & Machinery Usual disclaimer applies, I have nothing to do with Axminster other than being a satisfied customer.
  7. Something like this you want. Belt Sander on Floor Stand - Tilting table | eBay I've got an old Whitehead Junior Linisher. Would love a big modern oscillating belt sanding machine. Will have to wait till I have built some more room. Chris
  8. We've also used the Sthil BT45 for Stump drilling to insert eco plugs and to drill anything when remote from elastic-trickery....
  9. Steve, PM sent. Chris
  10. I'm interested Steve. Cheers, Chris
  11. Just wondering if there had been any developments in this tale, of the big bad Parish Council V the will of the People?
  12. Looking at options for resawing, when I don't want to fire up the pto sawbench. Has anyone used one of these? BTH Maximum 175mm of cut is very useful. Chris

    Radon .

Check with the local council on current building regs. Might have have a radon gas test done. Most likely improve the ventilation anywhere the gas could collect.
  14. http://www.voycepullin.co.uk/salesandmarkets/documents/101015ExcellCatalogue.pdf Looks like a good sale.
  15. How have you gotten on with the Turbosawill? Why are you wanting to move it on?
  16. I know it's a spoof, but, I wonder what you could sell pretty wood for to the "Real Housewives" market? Gold plated and with pillars for Chesire, and all the moss removed and covered in little crystals for Essex..... Chris
  17. Peterson Mobile Saw Mill | eBay The blurb might be different but the photo is the same, so far hasn't it been in the Isle of Wight and Scotland..... Must be best travelled Peterson in the country... Chris
  18. Once you have satisfied the training requirement the H&S mob will start on about machine guards and emergency stops....
  19. Presumably the rollers work on some sort of friction drive so as he pulls the handle, the roller take off moves across the driving wheel. Which means you get forward and reverse drive depending on which side of the drive wheel centre you are.. Draw a circle on a some paper and draw some arrows on it to show direction of movement. and slide your finger across you'll get what i'm trying to say. I wonder how many times that tractor picks a log up and fires if off somewhere.... But I'd have a mill like that tomorrow, be ideal for the timber around here.
  20. Just what I was going to say. Depending where you are, Huws Gray should have suitable twinwall pipe in stock. You can cut it with a saw to length. Chris
  21. Just realised the Anglesey Woodland Festival is on this weekend at Plas Newydd. Its free entry and normally worth a couple of hours. Anglesey Woodland Festival Cheers, Chris
  22. Play anything by Shampoo or Cher very loudly, no more complaints about the power tools..... Or insulate the walls with celotex etc, if your roof is high enough hand up some blocks of polystyrene, it helps to "capture" sound.
  23. What is the soil like where you are? If you have boulders, or bedrock is not very deep it will make it difficult perhaps even impossible to do. Otherwise should be straight forward. If you have clay then you are laughing. What about bog mats? The firm you hirer them off should have bumpf. Chris:thumbup1:
  24. Has anyone a link to a youtube video, to show how we make such a purchase, without having spent weeks agonising over the purchase of confectionary and no peer support..
  25. Ekki has natural mineral deposits with in its structure. Silica I think. It's a knightmare to drill a hole in, very hard on bits. Much denser than Jarrah.
