  1. Have you noticed the phrase "Partly Synthetic" creeping into the market place. Cracks me up, what the hell is the point of that. It could be 5% synthetic
  2. How old is the vehicle? Not sure what the logic is in sticking a super high performance, bells and whistles oil in a relatively old machine. It may give you extended drain, but at the end of the day whats the point when it cost 2 -3 times as much. You may as well change your oil regularly and carry on using a semi or even a mineral 15w/40 does the job. Our rep ( now retired) ran a old Renault 12 on our mineral 15w/40 and took it all the way to 350 k, same with our oldest tanker it is now on 400 K +
  3. I have pitched at businesses at a decent price only to have them go to their current supplier and get them to drop their price below mine. This drop has been as much 15-20%. Call me old fashioned but if a supplier can drop by that much they were charging too much in the first place.
  4. Just wondering who haggles with suppliers and what's the biggest discount you've managed. Do customers try to haggle your prices down. I managed to get £1000 knocked off a £11000 filling machine.
  5. Best weather for business for us is cold and windy with the threat of snow but no actual snow. Very mild at the moment though.
  6. All signed up. Hopefully if we all pull together we can make a real impact. It seems crazy to me you have to pay road fuel duty on a product that you would never put in your car or vehicle. The government needs to see whats happening and sort it out, this wont happen without everyone pitching in and spending a small bit of time signing the petition.
  7. Yep a normal mineral 46 Will do the job.
  8. I am with you Mark, we used to sell stuff on E-bay and had our account cancelled because 1 person made a complaint because the product didn't turn up, and that was down to the courier booting it around the back of their van. People are under the impression they get a better price on E-bay but with a bit of haggling and shopping around, companies would rather cut them out because of the amount they charge.
  9. Elite on the BBC micro. Spent most of my computer studies A level playing this. On PC it has to be Doom and Doom II.
  10. Does that include air Mark? In which case your truck was really overloaded yesterday
  11. We have had our first pallet of Aspen delivered, so hopefully its our first of many. Jon
  12. It is a very good time to buy at the moment. The price has dropped, but may not stay low through the winter months. Prices tend to go up in the winter due to supply and demand. Also shop around, some oil companies ( I can't name names), will give you a crap price if you have always bought oil from them. We had an old lady contact us because we put a flyer through her door, and she had been with the same company for years. They were charging her nearly 70p per litre, our price was nearer 54p. So it pays to shop around.
  13. Just signed up, I am actually amazed at how few signatures this has got so far. I would have thought that it was in everyone's interest, even people who don't use Aspen fuel at them moment to help get this changed. The government want to increase the Ethanol content of fuel even more than current levels this means more breakdowns due to fuel related issues. Just as a side issue, but also related, Supermarkets buy fuel just as it is about to go out of date, this is why they can charge less for it. Also sometimes it has a higher ethanol content, Morrisons appears to be the worse offender, having recently been tested at up to 20%.
  14. The Stihl grease will be just lithium EP2 almost guaranteed. Maybe a lithium complex high temperature grease. But a 400 gram tube is £2-£3 + vat. So a bit better than a tenner.
  15. Shouldn't be any separation, as long as the tacking agent has been heated up and mixed properly. It almost sounds like its got a bit of water contamination. I would send it back if you have any left.
  16. Yep, our MD has written countless letters to our MP and to David Cameron and no one does anything, just keeping a load of pen pushers in jobs when they could be out doing something useful.
  17. Very Important if it hasn't been mentioned already. If you do your CPC training and you have a paper licence you have to swap it for a photo licence or the training doesn't go on your licence. One of our drivers has been caught out by this, the people doing the training are supposed to warn you but they didn't on this occasion. It means he cant drive until he gets his licence back, which could be up to three weeks.
  18. We get customers like that on a daily basis. One women was so adamant that she didn't want our delivery driver to stray onto her precious lawn, that she would rather he scraped up against her brand new 4 x 4 in the drive. Luckily he managed to do neither.
  19. There are only 2 grease manufacturers in the country and JCB isnt one of them. If you see lithium/calcium complex grease in 400 gram tubes it will almost certainly come from one of these companies. The Blue grease is generally a extreme load pin and bush grease that has graphite in it, this has extra water resistant properties. This grease is generally used in loaders, bulldozers and heavy equipment where water ingress is more likely. The Red grease is a standard Lithium / Calcium complex bearing grease for more general extreme pressure, high temperature use. Don't necessarily be fooled by a name, chances are its made by the same firm.
  20. Hi, this is a very interesting thread for me, which is not much of a surprise. I am very interested in how the different products stack up. I would love to get our 15w/40 in to compare but as testing has started I guess its too late. Also, we get hammered on price by motor factors who make quite extravagant claims on specs for the price of the product, is it also too late to get either a semi 10w/40 or 5w/30 if I can get you a sample. Thanks Jon
  21. This is pretty much how we put the tarpaulin sheet back on one of our out buildings. Don't tell the HSE:thumbup1:
  22. Rye Oil Ltd have a stall at the War And Peace Revival Show this year. It takes place at the Folkestone racecourse between the 16th and 20th of July. Come down and say hi we are at stall A1-18. Come and enjoy Tank and military vehicle shenanigans.
  23. Yes that would be a cracking idea, not sure they want to spread it all over their house though
  24. Hi, Thanks for that. I have actually bitten the bullet and bought a barrel of a Shell product and will split it down into 25 Litres to sell. I have customers for at least 3 potentially 5 so hopefully it will soon go.
