1. HI, if your friend was using a 2-stroke oil that had the same spec as the Stihl oil that was recommended and he was using the correct mix ratio, then they are braking the law saying it cant be fixed under warranty. They are very clever in trying to get round this issue, because they cannot force people into using a particular brand they change the mix ratio for anyone else's oil. So for instance they will say use the stihl oil at 50:1 but if any other brand it has to be 25 : 1 even if it is top of the range Redline stuff. I think as long as he is using a decent spec oil and he mentions the EU law that specifically bans the process of forcing buyers to use a set brand of oil, he should get it fixed. Hope this helps Jon
2. Does anyone currently use or have used in the past Rock Oils Universal Chain Oil. I have been approached by them to see if I am interested in buying a load they have spare. Its a bit thinner that our normal product that we blend but I am wondering if there is an application it may suit? If anyone has any feedback I would appreciate it. Many thanks Jon
3. Tate fencing , in flimwell they may even have a depot in t.wells also littlewood fencing in battle. Bit further away but they deliver.
4. Not necessarily. Lots of oil companies re-brand oil for clients. So no guarantees it is Oregon at all. In theory it could be anyone's chain oil.
5. I'de be interested to see what viscosity the super sexy chain oil is. It says medium viscosity but you cant find any technical info on it.
6. Hi all, anyone interested in Vintage Tractors and agricultural machinery of all shapes and sizes, its worth popping along to the Tractor World show in Malvern this weekend ( 27th and 28th ). Just to make it more appealing we are having a stand there this year, the first time we are spreading our wings and attending a show outside the South East. It would be great to see some Arbtalkers and have a chat. Link to show is below Spring Tractor World Show | Tractor World Shows
7. Most of the day its been beautiful. Bit chilly to start but got warmer this afternoon. We did have weird hale this afternoon though. More a drizzly sleet/hail than full on hale. Only lasted about 5 mins.
8. Thanks Kyle. Glad to see it got all the way up to you in one piece
9. This current slide is astounding. If you have oil fired central heating you are laughing. I don't see the big energy companies falling over themselves to bring the price down. As for chain oil unfortunately most chain oil is made using group 1 base oil, the price of which has not fallen with the crude price because of the closure of a few big refineries on the continent. Keep posted though because the reduction in price of raw material has to have an impact eventually.
10. Finally got round to finding a decent source for the old style stuff. Decided against the modern alternatives. To many people had bad things to say about it.
11. Hi all hope everyone is having a good productive start to the year. Just to make you aware even though we have offered up 4 x 25 litre cans of mineral chain oil as a prize for the raffle, if someone wins a can and predominately uses Bio Chain Oil , I am happy to swap. Good luck to everyone who has bought tickets. Thanks Jon
12. Since posting this I have actually managed to track down about 70 . Hopefully should keep me going for a bit. Thanks for the suggestions. The more contacts I have the more chance I have of getting a consistent supply. Thanks Jon
13. We have an ongoing issue finding decent reconditioned pallets. I need to buy reasonably heavy duty 1.2m x 1.2m ones. I have tried a few companies in my area and they either don't have any or don't get back to me. Does anyone know someone in the South East who may be able to help me out? Thanks in advance Jon
14.
Thanks Paul, I am at work today. But not back properly until after the new year. As soon as I have something for you to test I will send it your way.

15. Hi John, I think log sales are as low as oil sales are at the moment. It is definitely the slowest run up to Christmas we have had in a long time. Hope it picks up for everyone in the new year. Jon
16. Thanks that would be really handy. In the new year I will look at the options and see what I can come up with, I may be able to make a thinner chain oil with a decent tacky content, but up the anti wear additive. This should help reduce bar wear. If you PM me an address I can send you a sample next year. Cheers Jon
17. Cheers for your help so far guys. Appreciate the feedback. Jon
18. Thanks always looking to increase our product range. If I come up with a test sample, would you be happy to trial it for me?
19. Hi, can I tap the collective wisdom ( don't laugh) of the Arbtalk collective. I was having a conversation with one of my customers who is testing a new chain oil additive system we may be using next year, and we were discussing the amount of tackiness in the oil. We run an ISO 150 oil with a reasonable level of tacking agent in it, and he said if it is too tacky it doesn't pump very well in the winter. Is this an issue anyone has had with our oil or anyone else's? The point being is it worth us changing the tacky level dependent on the season, so it would be a bit less tacky in the winter to take account of the lower temp ( although not this year so far). Cheers for any help in advance Jon
20. Great work Steve, its for a good cause , so hopefully we can make them lots of money. Good luck to everyone. Jon
21. Awesome and my mum is going to love it
22. I can remember popping out to do my paper round just as the wind was starting to die down but was still very windy. My parents road was completely blocked by about 6 big trees and we had a tree hanging over our house, the only thing that stopped it was the telephone and power cables. We basically had to chop our way out. The power was off for 2 weeks, luckily my mum was a guide leader and we had plenty of gas stoves and temporary lighting. It was interesting to say the least. The 87 storm was the catalyst for us as a firm to start selling chain oil, there was a shortage down here and we kept getting asked for it, so we dipped our toe in the market and the rest they say is history.
23. There is actually an EU law ( one of the good things they have achieved), that states a manufacturer cannot force a customer to use a particular brand of oil. They can recommend one. But as long as the oil you are using is the same grade as the oil they recommend then you are covered. This is the same across all types of machinery. We get it a lot with Tractors in particular. A lot of chainsaw manufacturers recommend an oil at 50 : 1 and say if you use someone else's oil you have to run at 25 : 1. This is the bit I am not totally sure about where they stand legally. Hope this helps. Jon
24. Its a beautiful sunny winters morning here. Perfect:thumbup:
