  3. Seem like it would be ideal for making firewood from coppice. Hazel branch Loggings would be good for stuff like wood fire pizza ovens.
  4. Id maybe crown raise & and take out crossing branches, but not go OTT on the green marked ones as looks like it may cause a mass of water sprouts making tree more dense. If cut green could end up like this..... Better to take out say any congested branch completely near the main trunk than have too many, branches half cut off imo.... m106 is kind of abit large rootstock for aiming for no ladders needed? But will compete better with grass than a more dwarf rootstock would..... Think now commercial orchards plant on a more dwarf rootstock than m106 so no ladders needed....? Id do the red /leader prunning in summer....
  5. Best type are the US or stringer ones

EDIT: (some quick googling) What's the problem with biofuels? — Emissions Analytics WWW.EMISSIONSANALYTICS.COM Why is the use of biofuels, promising environmentally friendly reductions in emissions especially for heavy-duty vehicles... NOx has direct and indirect effects on human health. It can cause breathing problems, headaches, chronically reduced lung function, eye irritation, loss of appetite and corroded teeth. Indirectly, it can affect humans by damaging the ecosystems they rely on in water and on land—harming animals and plants Hmmm so might be something in the e10 & headaches. Worse thing ive expereinced for fumes is pto tractor splitters. Don't think id like to use one often 😐
  8. Found x27 is abit fisher price and c0mpred my maul as found had to swing harder/put more effort in , to get wood to split too c0mpensate for less weight in head. Never use mine much except on certain wood that spilts easy. Saying that tried using a different heavier maul at a customers house and found was was too heavy/ felt less effecinet as head weight was more than on the maul i own.

  10. Have a old carbon steel sabatier its very easy to sharpen v the stianless steel Henckel ones bought as repalcements. Shaperning with a shapening steel..... Its blade is getting very worn away now but still prefer it. Think i need a better method/kit to sharpen up the SS henckels.....as the sharpening steel doesn't work on them well Anyway go for carbon steel over SS is my take on it......for ease of sharpening.... Why Serious Cooks Use Carbon Steel Knives WWW.SERIOUSEATS.COM For a long time, I lived in denial of how strong my feelings for carbon steel are. People would ask me what knives they...
  11. Remember reading something about how much of south wales valleys were wooded until they swapped over from coppicing the wood and making charcoal, too using coal for industries etc so the woodland lost its economic value. Now the former extensive woodland area is mostly degraded moorlands rough pasture plagioclimax veg like much of the uk uplands Think it was rackham Also selective felling may kind of replicate the role of the extinct ( hunted to extiction in the neolithic) megafauna that plants may of co evolved with.... 13. What model of moisture meter will they issue the new local council firewood police with? Suppose they will need to carry hatchet/axe also to split the logs for the readings.
  14. Used chain is cutting faster than brand a new one, and the lower rakers/plus angled front of rakers seems too of improved the chain most for boring and felling cuts, it seems like there is less "chatter". For snedding & cross cutting was abit less of a difference/improvement that I could notice Not very scientific, but that was just what i noticed since I tried that stihl progressive raker guide thingymajig 95TXL chain sharpened using file in a holder re doing the rakers took prob less than 5 mins on a 15" bar and is not needed every sharpen. No idea about teh science explainations in the carlton guide...or marketing Was cutting ok before but now its better. Thought the lower raker might of made it grabby but it didn't....

  16. Surprised by that, have a bay in the garden on clay & its slow growing compared to thoose ubiqitous cherry laurel hedges that all seem to grow like crazy. Least there not as bad as leylandi though i suppose as a hedge.
  17. Sell firewood by weight best to soak the logs in a pond before you flog them them? 🙂 One thing iv'e noticed dumpy bags are often sold as a 1m3 when a .8 x.8 dumpy bag is only .64m3
  18. Don't like the gortex etc lined boots if that what you mean by waterproof as they are sweaty. Had many fancy boots but atm using Screwfix dewalt bolster boots £40 and there as good as many of the more pricey ones i reckon...and leather with wax on is waterproof
  19. Cherry grows alot faster but i much prefer Bay.
  20. The clumping type of bamboo isn't to bad at spreading
  21. Also crown raise the maidens and maybe single some smaller previously coppiced trees to convert to maidens (just keep one stem) to reduce the shade help hedge to thicken up....
