  1. Alu decks but they still corrode? There is a italian company that makes mowers with stainnless steel decks or thoose honda composite ones supposedly last unless they crack?
  2. I found battery life on the Makita DUR369AZ strimmer is only less than 15mins with string or blade which limts its usefulness alot. Its still very handy to access trees growing in brambles/balckthorn etc as works well with the mulch blade. Now i just keep to for mulching & don't bother using the string bump head have a petrol one suits that better Money was not object battery mower - looks like like mars rover A 1600w motor for 60cm cut is impressive if it works as well as claimed...
  3. .I know when yout down you don't feel like doing anything but exercise is suppose to help as much as any other thing. With a manual job you probably get plenty already but somehow its not the same as "leisure exercise" outside work.
  4. The pro mowers seem no more lightweight than petrol maybe even heavier like the cars coz the of the batteries. Interesting negative review in the comments about one model The bottom model is 45kg
  5. The limitation is battery energy and power to weight battery life etc not brand (though ive not tried the 40v makita saw) ived used the stihl msa220
  6. Iv'e used the honda one works ok but abit sluggish & slow revving and heavy v 2 stroke.
  7. I have the two sided makita 18v trimmer best battery OPE tool I have used alot nicer to use than petrol. Cuts proabably about 15mm max id guess. Don't rate the makita 18v topper or 2x18v brushcutter as highly as the hedge trimmer as petrol versions work better in performance but the 18v topper is handier than petrol in stop start situations - has to be nursed when used as think is only a 600w motor so can't do that much. Was tempted with the blower but saw the battery life was terrible got a husky one, 4 stroke power to weight seems very inferior to 2 stroke....only benefit less emissions & slight saving on fuel? Like my makita corded chainsaw though its a very old design i sure could be improved with a brushless motor etc.... One thing annyoning about battery is why not be upfront about the motors Kw rating the datas always hidden away if even available? As Kw rating gives a good indication of the machines preformance or lack of it...

People I know of who have them seem to do very well from them. Most seem to employ people do any cleaning garden & property maintenance etc not do it themselves.
  10. Im 95% sure its not slugs. Ok they can eat small plant stems sometimes but thats a big one "felled" and the pile of chewed leaves never seem them do that . My guess is rats or voles. EDIT Maybe a massive snail if going for for a mollusc culprit? Could go out at night to check...to try catch then in the act.....

  15. Yeah Portugal has huge commercial euc plantations surely if it was drought, it would hammer them with the climate they get there as I thought it was both drier and hottter than UK - but im just guessing....? Wonder how the forestry ones Big J planted in UK are doing - he know abit about eucs? Also as theres huge ranges of euc species suited to diffferent enviros some might thrive whilst others fail? 21. Was just thinking of trying the same on all the bare earth on the veg plots between plants. Probabably should of done it already Never can remember another yr like this one without any rain for over a month now and still none forcast... Bet alot tree saplings planted on schemes eariler this yr are gonna be toast and the apples & fruit will be dropping of trees etc.
  22. With regards to any coppices material if its hazel may have some added value over firewood but only if its being kept in rotation otherwise im guessing might be hard to cover costs of the initial restoring - if its a neglected coppice from the first cut....? More value in any standards but any coppice craft products will only be decent quality with less than about 20% canaopy cover and after its has being restocked to density if over shaded so a long term project.....
  23. Wrong time of yr will be plenty of free acorns lying about in the autum.
  24. When cutting stems on ground standing straight up with a long bar won't it be hard to avoid dirt with the chain as you cutting logs with bar tip is held at a 45 degree angle I normally crouch down so bar is cutting more lvl with ground then flip logs over for that last bit. But recall seeing yanks on youtube who use say 24" - 30" bars or whatever ringing up pretty small diameter stems on the grounnd with the tip of long bar and not flipping logs but they probably had a brash mat underneath.
  25. May as well cut the stem yourside at the base imo as it would look more tidy. I think you can legally cut all but not 100% sure.....? Saw a "funny" pic online somewhere where a whole of large diameter tree trunk had being cut down the middle removing about 1/3 of whole encroaching trunk from the base to he bottom of the crown, to fit a newly erected fence. Was cut like this apart from the tree was more vertical so still had a half a top As was not ring barked so chance the tree could possibly still survive yrs as a hollow tree.... veteranisation.....? But in your tree its two seperate trunks right at ground lvl so it won't be so crazy as literally slicing in half a maiden tree trunk down the middle
