  2. Been cutting birch/hazel at 1300 feet today, Thats solid at that height, big difference when you get over 1000 feet Have couple of big oaks down ....so there will be plenty of oak No beech down (yet).....
  3. I have wondered about difference once dry Theycan stay where they are till september Should dry nicely By then Alternative is tolift the ibc with forks and slide onto trailer Buggers my plan though Aim was to build "walled patio" by kitchen door and clear it in winter and fill with ibc containers, not easy with a trailer We got caught 12 months ago when we had fourteen feet of snow Logs were 200 yards away and impossibe to get to, horrendous electricity bill

  11. Snowed overnght here Thawed today but going to freeze hard tonight Log pile not much of a pile now
  12. Doesn't the efficiency of woodburner come into this too? Ditto electric/gas boiler etc Sounds like nerd to me..... Refer him to websites and let him work it out..... But keep him happy too he may work out best way of marketing logs ..... i don't think either tonnes or cubic metres is optimum
  13. I was undercut buy guys offering insurance companies that "they would work for free" Insurance companies actually accepted this crap, and wondered why their claim costs went through the roof ( it's called a backhander from the repairer you idiots) Saved one company £10k on a claim ( for £50 ) and they said I was hard work and gave me no more work .... Eventually got fed up and closed the business ........couldn't hack working for idiots .....
  14. Invoice him ........ He'll pay to avoid embarassment of court case
  15. Crap income by letting agricultural land But currently appreciating by 13% per annum ( hopefully) So if your missis can stay away from that fancy car and luxury shopping, and you don't want a range rover should do ok .......
  16. Thats what I thunk ...probably ok with half filled ibc Would be efficient though .....
  17. Went in garage and mechanic shorted out battery through his wedding ring Apparently it glowed red
  18. Dull and overcast, but dry And the snow in the mountain gulleys has nearly gone!
  19. Will that hang off IBC container?
  20. My wife thought it was like a guillotine Before we bought one Its a reasonably slow moving blade ( more of a blunt axe head really ) That just pushes the log apart Its very pleasant sitting in the sun splitting a few logs Logs in bags are typically 10 inches long so tat would be sensible length to specify when getting tree broken down into manageable pieces If its in rings ( slices across the trunk ) they can be very heavy so you might want those split into two as well If you get sensible guys to do the tree they will know what you want ......If you tell them your plans This site is great full of sensible people ........ You might get addicted to log splitting!
  21. When I had puppies couple of years ago put them in old kennel in garden They wrte back in house before me Replaced uprights and bottom twofeet of boarding ...... Also made new doors and sleping box When it rained had to replace roof and roof timbers Only middle two feet original Think new kennel would have been in order Moral MEASURE TWICE CUT ONCE
  22. They are working hard for their hobby ....... Love the crime scene tape idea....... I 've always wanted to draw a body outline on a car bonnet and put crime scene tape round a car in a supermarket car park ---- just to see their faces when they come out
  23. Hi Sylvia Get them to 1) cut tree into lengths suitable for your fire 2) remove the rest Then buy cheap( ish) electric logsplitter from ebay ( or hire one ) Split the logs in your own time and stack somewhere dry If you haven't got somewhere dry, put them on pallets to keep them off thefloor and sheet top over with cheap plastic sheets -- you need someair getting in to let them dry-- will be good firewood by next year Splitting axes are for he men, they will go at it like lunatics for half an hour and then be knackered ---
