  3. Neat idea Wonder if you could make fuel pellets similarily? I come from mill town whete spinning jenny was invented Local story was some guy made prototype Didn't work, threw it out of window in disgust Some guy called Arkwright picked it up, saw what was wrong Few years later he was Sir Joshua Arkwright millionaire ( or vctorian equivalent) Don't give up yet
  4. Thats what I thought too.....But when there are ads in farmers guardian saying boiler £5k gives you £7k pa income for 20 years you have to have a look For the life of me cannot see why pellets are better than logs.... I undetstand all the advantages in handling pellets, acts more like traditional fuel, but actually better than logs not convinced ? Perhaps more even burning characteristics......but reducing emissions ?
  5. A mate reckons bankers want us out of europe His reasoning is they have got away with being crooks AND been bailed out by us and that they are now planning the BIG ONE , and need to be free of europe to do it Ie they are gearing up to rob us of £100's billions Sounds like crap, but think about it .... Crooks don't stop if you let them off, they just get greedier On those grounds I'm for europe ......
  6. Got couple of Jotuls, an old no 1 i shoved on ktchen to get us through winter, and a posh newer one in living room, The number 1 is old and ugly but gets hot, but I need boiler stove for central heating Cutting logs like mad as I reckon I'll need 25+ cube ......... Just fed up with house being cold .......never had central heating in my life so all new to me....had hoped this gov't grant thingy would help but seems to be aimed at burning pellets - told this morning machine to make pellets £15k so thats off the plan
  7. Looking to run central heating off the woodburner Plumber says we need about 25 kw Recommendations please

  9. Talking to my missis about this She apparently used to dress her jack russel up in dolls clothing ( she never liked dolls) and then go down to the brook behind her house where the dog would go ratting Looking at her now I just cannot imagine it
  10. There has to be a serious chinese saw somewhere ......
  11. I get the idea, interesting they are always splitting in a tyre, I'd guess the bits fly if they are not contained, as your converting the vertical energy into sideways splitting energy ...... Need to see it in action on knotty bit of wood...... Hats off to his thinking though .......
  12. £10 / £15 sounds better than two hours driving to me ...... Is that per saw or per package?
  13. Opportunity for one of serious repairers on here You send photos of saw and description of problem so you have idea of problem He Does deal with national carrier to collect / deliver chainsaws to his workshop ( i know serious discounts are available on carriage charges ) He repairs / services and delivers back asap No need to drive into town to get saw sorted ...... Simples
  14. Why is Scots Stihl dealer on this forum if he doesn't believe in the internet?
  15. I dont think just bolting it through the roof would work ........
  16. It's a sense of entitlement Typical of government employees Made worse by thinking they are self employeed business owners ........
  17. Farmers live on grant Grant comes from government Therefore farmers are government employees They don't like you saying it but its the truth
  18. Builder in the village did house up for teacher She kept changing the job Added up to over £10k She refused to pay, went to court, she won Nearly broke builder He should have sent new estimate every time he asked for new work
  19. Fantastic description of business change .......
  20. Years ago I looked at setting up a warranty cover for a chinese company ( not chainsaws) UPS and similar offer a global collection / delivery service at quite reasonable cost - we were looking at sending failed components straight back to designers so they coud improve quality of product So no reason why you cannot have a purchase direct from the manufacturer with local guys doing the maintenance and warranty repairs Local guy will then depend on his quality and speed of repair, so he will work like hell at providing good service ( no putting you at back of the queue) Chinese manufacturers have brand new top of the range equipment, So they will be manufacturing good quality kit ..... I think writing on wall for Stihl and Husky ........longterm
  21. Eric's Postulations after great Cogitation: DR RapidFire Log Splitter Review User review, not all hunky dory ....
  22. I came out of university with engineering degree in 1983 I had been top of my course at a good university for three years But Thatcher government was smashing up british industry with a big hammer Every night on news 500 engineering jobs gone here, 400 there No chance of a job in engineering Wonder what happened to all The malaysians I was at uni with ? Bottom line I should have emigrated.....
