  1. basically you got it due to having your phone set up to auto download turn it off if you dont want freebies such as this.
  2. not sure if its what you require but there is one that ive recently been browsing.... The Forestry Pruner - by william pontey 1808 i think tis a good read even just for the history aspect.
  3. please make sure you have some pikeroons and some cant hooks .........
  4. i have donate my time for our local church - in terms of felling and some strimming work - but at this time they are looking for a full time/contract for that work.. i would suggest when it comes to churches to see them more as a networking/business advertiser than £££ - ask about putting in a sign and having a flyer in the entrance. then charging for fuel and a moderate ammount on your time.
  5. patrick - YEEEAhaaahaaheeehhaaaaaghghghgh
  6. check its not just being held by the ivy ....... assuming the bank that is on the left is of reasnoble height you should be able to cut off at the top end thus putting it on the floor - no need for winch etc.
  7. its thinning work - landowner should be paying you. however all the wood is his. however if your taking wood in turn for the work then usually its wood for work and no one pays anyone anything. , due to the nature of thinning etc -BUUUUUUUUUUT that is assuming there has been correct marking done on either the cull or the leave trees , with emphasise on removing dead, dying, deseased, deformed first and then thinning the rest according to a sensible basel area reduction (30% maybe for a first thin) anywhosal thats how i do it here .... iam the landowner.
  8. actaully diteched a couple of sledges just like that the other week after an aution as i was after a nice side axe which was in another lot that i was outbid on - swapped my two of those for said axe ... the ones i had were used on the railways for pounding in the spikes/ties holding down the ties - the extra lenght head and the rear triangle were used as they could get the right angle i believe.

i used a tiny 180 echo on my first course - so you will be fine - maybe slow but fine. tips....... engage brain. the course is idiot proof so take it slow and steady - you can speed up once you have it. be a perfectionist with all your cuts and same with the workshop side - look at other ppls saws aswell as your own - i recently taught a chap to go for the quals and realised that id gone fuzzy on some aspects of the maintanance - so take notes in the nice booklet they give you. good luck
  12. re timings ......... 5 mins before from Co 5 mins before from SgM 5 mins before from sgt 5 mins before from lcpl/cpl heyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy why are we here for an hour on parade....??? 10 mins and done.
  13. wierdly enough just reading one at the moment.....
  14. friend recently purchased one his thoughts thus far... really enjoying the back cover - much cooler and lighter than the old neck protectors confused a bit by the shorter peak but i guess its so they can make one hat that has different inserts for climbing/ground. great visibility very easy adjustment and pretty darn comfortable. and really light on the head.... things hes gunna wait out on are the UV deteriation sticker thing and how quickly a bit of brash/branch sticks into the side of the visor and pops out the weedy little springs.

    cool mower

so is it a scissor type or what - like a large hendge timmer? ooo a laser?
  16. i would personally avoid it - but again you need to weigh up your options... we have decided to not do glastir as the "it needs X done by X or no funding, or well take away your woods" doesnt fit in our managment plan - as with many older smaller estates getting time/funding to get into the woods to complete tasks that you could pay a team/machine to do in a week might not be feasable cash wise but a team working over a few months can do the job - so for me the time restrictions are the reason we are staying away from it.
  17. sounds like you need to talk about compression and tension wood. specifically picking 1 tree type. good luck with the exam paper.
  18. saw £3.50 for 6 9in logs yesterday - wowzers - at least they were bone dry to touch.
  19. Atm my stacks are 3 pallets long (under the logs - and proped up a bit more with stones etc.)- and 4.5'-6' high - so no wobbles - and top covered with a pallet and some plastic from an old pollytunnel/ seems to be keeping most of this rain off
  20. alder looking at the leaves ( the katkins ) and yeah the yellower wood.
  21. locals round here are selling (ie shops ) from £3-4.50 - thats north wales.
  22. would also love to jump on the graph band wagon - [email protected] fyi your inbox is full Lyncombe-climber thanks in advance.
  23. thanks for posting those my stacks for personal consumption are looking a fair bit like that.,not double stacked high though./
