  1. Something I'm considering, but why one of these rather than say a Kubota B2350?
  2. As above, start small and build slowly. Dry pallet wood is good for getting things going. If you need accelerant use diesel. If you know it's going to p1ss down and the fire has a good heart you can throw a roof on the fire using any small stuff lying around.
  3. 20L plastic can, remove top and bottom.
  4. If someone or something is imperiled by that person's absence, i.e., genuine emergency, then common humanity says you ought to do something about. If it's something that can wait or someone else nearer can be called upon in the interim then the 'employee' can return under their own steam/expense and the job can go on.
  5. We recently lost a Scag Turf Tiger in a garage fire. Great mower, built like a tank, fast, but only does mowing. Insured for a new one, which is very appealing, but I'm thinking why not a small alpine with finishing mower? Obviously alpine isn't zero turn but a lot more versatile than a dedicated mower. Whadya reckon?
  6. Single stand electric fence or electric horse tape and spray with repellent.
  7. The inspectors have no powers and no right of access unless: a) they have a warrant and an accompanying police office; or b) you allow them in.
  8. Ash responds well to re-pollarding.
  9. Yes they do. Some CS32 instructors pass it on. I have a bench vice on a 3' length of railway sleeper. Works great.
  10. Well oiled Meindl Woodwalkers (or wellies).
  11. Super UTO (SUTO) tractor oil is 10w30. Less than £2 per litre.
  12. I would. WD40 is part solvent and not a very good or persistent lubricant. The manufacturers state: "It does not attract dirt or moisture to metal surfaces."
  13. Just been through four tanks on a fallen Alder. Chain still cutting well and making good chips.
  14. It's an invoice not a 50 page contract. Start as you mean to go on. Having said that, just paid a £2K bill from a climber handwritten and torn from an invoice book. Given to me at end of last day on site. We paid immediately by bank transfer. An excellent climber and top bloke. He has a Stihl saw taller than he is
  15. @daltontrees -- thank you. This reduction was done in the name of 'tree surgery'. If a surgeon removed your appendix with the same disregard for procedure, how would you feel? You have to ask what is the local authority playing at? This must have been an approved and ticketed(?) contractor. Contact the TO and at least get them off the list.
  16. My overriding concern would be a lease long enough to get to harvest! Contract in legal form for sure.
  17. +1 Just take a look at the assessment schedule so that you have some idea of what's coming up. If the instructor does his or her job well then you're ~90% there.
  18. Thanks. I'd like to see that.
  19. Also talk to the Forestry Commission. A few of their guys have black powder licences for stump removal and boulder splitting.

    Aspen

What are the relative merits of Aspen and Briggs and Stratton "Fuel Fit"?
  21. What do you split those big lumps with?
