  1. Clutch change on some of the wagons here times three, keeps the fitter busy Bob
  2. How many JD`s later was it that you decided you wanted one Gary? Bob
  3. A few kilometers of mulching down the side of a motorway so machines can get in and clear the ditches, mostly regen , windblown and general mayhem. Just clearing a six meter wide track at the moment so the lads can get into the ditch and cut out the rest of the trees, They will also be laid out on the track and mulched.
  4. But true. This is the tip of the iceberg and only what they have been caught for in recent months. The man is sixty ................................ Bob
  5. My old Foden has not got any synchro`s so its double the clutch up and down the box , let a newby take that on a test Bob
  6. We use HS direct as our health and safety consultants and are a member of SMAS, its not cheap but 100% necessary. Even the smaller developers now are asking contractors for accreditation. When you look at the expense of the kit and wages it pales into insignificance . HS direct will bash you into shape and make the SMAS easier to comply with https://www.hsdirect.co.uk/ SMAS Home - SMAS Bob
  7. Pete I cant see how a smaller cooperative would be of any help, you would still need to be H&S compliant, have the same tickets of competence , insured to the same level and tick all the same boxes . The cost and grief would be the same, you don't need to be AA approved but they are well placed for arb . There are many other H&S companies that can get you compliant so worth an hour on the phone. Bob
  8. I have done 3k this month in certs with the relevant lost wages:thumbdown: I find it quite hard to keep track of employees`s and subby`s certificate expiry dates, some of the lads have over ten tickets a piece between chainsaw, fmoc, citb cscs ,spraying, first aid and others of which none run concurrently. In an attempt to avoid that "ohshit" moment we are entering them all up on the computer so they flag up on calender three months prior to expiry with weekly reminders thereafter. With luck that will give us a bit more time to arrange or even group together refresher courses. Bob
  9. I had this on silent in the yard and forgot about it, it snowed and I had to wait for the thaw a few days later to find it. It still had charge ,tough as old boots.
  10. I think we have an excess of £750 on our fleetplan so most scrapes and dinks end up coming out of my pocket anyway. I cant think of a twelve month period where one of our trucks has not been involved in some sort of traffic accident so I doubt if I have any no claims discounts worth trying to protect. Bob
  11. Think of it like this and assuming there is no problem with the clutch itself. Clutch pedal is pushed down and all things be equal the plate slides back off the flywheel on the spline and there is a gap between the drive plate and the two surfaces of the flywheel/clutch cover. Clutch is released so no problem. Bring on condensation, rust, mud and general crap that gets into our sort of 4x4`s from wading or off roading , spline gets cacked up and the clutch plate cannot get back on the gearbox spline to clear the flywheel hence the drag. A seizing pilot bearing can do the same. Bob
  12. 99.999999999999999999% certain that clutch drag is your problem, it may not be the clutch itself but its in that department. Aside of the clutch itself drag can be caused by the center plate jambing/sticking in the input spline and things like pilot bearings dry or seizing. Pull it apart and all will be revealed. Bob
  13. George have you been on the sauce Bob
  14. Was up at 5.30 to meet a friend to look at a clearance job he had to price yesterday , in the couple of hours it took to look around the job we must of spent five minutes discussing it and the rest of the time moaning our holes off as we trudged about in the mud and mayhem. Grumpy gits together we are over one hundred and twenty years old Bob
  15. I agree, the time spent cleaning is better spent fixing. The only gear worth a toss for plugging a gusher is the dammitx product. A quick wipe and slap it on. Expensive but effective. Dammit X Clay Plugging Compound (500g) in Drum Repair Putty | Buy Online at Adler and Allan
  16. I cant remember the thread Sam but we were banging on about something on here and this cropped up. If its payload your after the Renault master comes out on top . Best payload for 3.5t tipper | Parkers Bob
  17. A good Transit is a hard act to follow ( just my worthless opinion), have you considered another one ? Bob
  18. Not a joke but made me laugh http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=215744&stc=1&d=1484067289
  19. Here are the 2001 numbers http://www.forestry.gov.uk/pdf/FCTN1.pdf/$FILE/FCTN1.pdf New census being done this year. Forest Research UK Forest Machinery Census 2017 (Forest Research)
  20. Its a shame really because there are not that many of them out there, I read somewhere a few years ago that there are app three hundred active harvesters in the uk. That may be bollocks , does anyone have up to date figures on this? Bob
  21. Dont worry about it Rosey, I just read it on google earth and will print it off later and wallpaper the office with it As wrong as the situation is there is not much in that article most of us dont already know, perhaps the guys on the harvesters should unite and form a consortium, strength in numbers and all that. As individuals they are ripe for shafting. Bob
  22. He has got a Stihl, he`s using it as a wedge. Bob
