    The left really do need to beat a different drum now, they just bang on relentlessly promising to write cheques that are going to bounce. The easiest way to spark off unrest in the city ( which basically rule our lives contrary to what most believe) is to relax government spending, increase wages, spark off inflation and pump money into harebrained schemes. You can then watch helplessly as pension funds fall out of bed, interest rates rise and economic suicide ensues. As for Corbyn , what a choice . His three marriages say enough about his decision making skills. Bob

    I won't buy anything I can't afford to pay for outright or repair myself. I hear all the arguments about tax efficiency of new kit but the money still needs to be earned to get the benefit. I see a lot of our subbies with kit they have on the strap and often wonder if they are working for the kit or wether the kits working for them, most of them certainly don't seem to financially benefit from their purchases .It all breaks down new or old so I don't see much difference really, I am writing this while taking a break after fitting a new seal in the drive box of a 25k machine that's less than nine months old. 😁 Bob

    Now let me see how this pans out 470 mile round trip at 5mpg , 24 hours of my life and stop over in a travel lodge for a cuppa, croissant and an egg. Vs A chip dump two miles down that charge £20 even if its an artic. I cant find the calculator Steve so I am on my way Bob

    I think you will spend a lot less on servicing a Landy long term if you keep away from the cheapy aftermarket stuff. The original UJ`s in one of the Disco Vans had covered 125,000 before they needed to be changed, I replaced them with those Britpart ones and they were shot within 10,000 miles. The smug smile the savings put on you face come back and bit you, same for bushes, bearings, brake pads, discs and seals. Bob

    There are lots of lads doing well out of converting arb waste into saleable logs around these parts Tom, a lot of them just use a small honda engined hydraulic splitter and axes. Small steps I know but everyone starts this way. Best of luck with your new venture. Bob

    Everyone I know with mulchers are booked up for three months plus ahead,I am not so sure you will find one with just a weeks notice. Bob

    Its good that you are taking the subject of ear defenders seriously, most of us old gits were brought up on a diet of really noisy old machines and a lack of decent ear defenders. Its the main reason most of us have tinnitus ,partial deafness or both. Anyway back to TW and their 119db, according to their blurb the 119db is a worst case recorded scenario they choose to quote rather than an average like other manufacturers quote which is much lower . So you are probably ok . Bob

    The whole country is aware that every government or council run service is cash strapped. There is no meat on the bones and the only way Corbyn can possibly entice the electorate is to try and redistribute wealth, with this he can increase spending on welfare and other government harebrained schemes . If he is successful I for one will be off because a mass exodus of investors in this country will ensue, we can then helplessly watch it all go down the pan from where it has just been retrieved. I dont particularly support any of the parties but at least the Tories run the place as a business .Someone on here once said dont trust anyone that polishes a chair with their arse for a living .     As Abraham said : You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time. Labour have had their chance in power and proven beyond all reasonable doubt how totally incompetent they can be in office, I dont know where they can go from here. Now even the working class have witnessed what happens when you have finished spending other peoples money. Payback is expensive ,painful and firmly imprinted on the minds of those that have battled through recent hard times as Labour have just found out. Bob

    Land sharks are the answer, about twenty years ago a hapless bycrikey tried his luck here and was seen off by the dobermans I had at the time. One of them was strutting around the yard with a very large chunk of prized denim in his mouth. Bob

    I found the best results are when the helicoils are a couple of threads longer than the plug. If the plug has any exposed thread hanging in the combustion chamber carbon can build up on it, when the plug is undone the carbon will bind on the insert and it will unscrew. Bob

    Rates are based on capability. We have climbers on board and climbers that we sub in to deal with tasks that are perhaps more technically challenging. You get paid for what you know and experience . North of Portsmouth sounds like Guildford to me, send over your details. Bob

    I was having a chat a while ago with a friend that is into his domestic arb work, he had noticed that a lot of his old regulars had gone off the radar and this was a concern to him . What he has done is get his customer database and bomb them all with regular posted offers of bagged logs, mulch,chip , new services offered and various special offers even if he knows they dont want it . It apparently has stirred up a lot of new interested. Bob

    Possible remains of a timber trailer. Found deep in the woods , turntable is still in one piece , hubs are there. If anyone is restoring something like this and needs any bits off it let me know. Bob
