I like the look of that, are they available here?
  4. Hi does sound a bit steep, but that kinda depend on size of pump (splitting power), engine size etc. and whether that's delivered inc VAT etc. Looks efficient and I would say looks good but can't see the machine!😀 Also you wouldn't have to have 2 hands on if ram n splitter were guarded.
  5. I think Heritage Woodlands (part of RFS) do some sort of funding for training in forestry sector, don't think it's much though ( 100s not 1000s ) Hope this helps
  6. That's great I think you are definately developing a style of your own. Love the fox n all!👍🏻
  7. I'm not experienced with skylines but have operated a high lead system on fens for scrub clearance and coppicing alder carr, was slow but minimal ground impact was always of paramount importance (sssi etc), maximum pull of 90m and not a huge amount on each haul in. I looked in to buying old timbermaster skyline while working in Scotland with a view to bringing back down south and using on marshland and even got as far bein pointed in the direction of a couple (but in need of tlc) for 4 to 5 k the cost of haul in haul out carriage started at about 8k and km or so of cable, I decided it was probably not economically viable as it would spend a good 6mths a year in yard.
  8. I have Husqvarna A2400 about £45 really robust and a pleasure to use but I find the hammer poll is a tad narrow also have largest gransfors maul which is also great especially on big knotty rounds (and is also a bit sexier 😀) think it was about £80 6/7 years ago
  9. Hi Thermal, I've been using almost entirely scots pine and Norway spruce in my ring kilns for about 14 yrs and have no problems selling it, I switched when I bought 40 acres of predominately scots pine spruce and thuja, and hardwood prices started to climb makin it more sensible to sell the hardwoods as logs and 'value add' to the lower value pines Can't really add much to what others have said except that your slower grown material may produce a longer lasting coal due to higher density. Think pines that came from wetter woodlands were preferable for producing Stockholm tar ( was told the scientific reason for this but can't remember😕) Worth looking into biochar production from arisings especially if you're going down retort route. Good luck with your venture John
