Hi guys , most of you seem to be saying its hard to make any good money milling so why are the 3 small sawmills near me doing a roaring trade in the on its like a 3 week waite for cut timber , I cant get my hands on a bandmill quick enough , anyone got one they dont want anymore do give me a ring , Cheers Mark

  10. Hi , I had the injection for tennis elbo , could hardly use that arm the next day, and took doctors advise and took it easy for about a week , and its been fine ever scince a few twinges but nowt else , but call me a poof the injection hurt like f##k , good luck Cheers luck Mark

Hi , I am sure that you can set the depth of cut on the vertical mill so , I would do my first cut remove the ladder set depth on vertical , set width one cut set width and so on across the log , then set height on alaskan and away to go , 4/5 beams , the width setting every time is a bit of a faf but hey , chainsaw milling there is quite a bit of faf , good luck post some pics Cheers Mark

Hi Arcto,what you are saying about yew being imported for long bows is not correct as we have a nice yew forrest by us that was planted for yew for long bows , it is no longer looked after like it was back then but still interesting I wonder how many more there might be dotted around , would love to have a go at making one , Cheers Mark

  14. Hi what sort of size are you looking for I have some stunning spalted beech thats nice and dry I think the thickest is 6inch , about a bit longer than a mtr and I can cut it as wide as you would want as the boards are almost a mtr wide P M if any good Cheers Mark

  16. Hi I have a Trend Air Shield Pro , it cost me £200 and its the dogs wish I had got one yrs ago , no goggles steaming up no bits in my eyes and no dust best money I spent in ages I would defo get one Cheers Mark

Hi , I have a 9 and 4 n 1/2 inch grinders with backing pads and 24 grit discs ideal if the boards are a bit rough from milling electric plane and hand but dont use the hand one much and also orbital andbelt sanders it all depends on the board to start with but mostly for me its grinders and orbitals but have been thinking about router planing but it looks like it takes ages Cheers Mark

  20. Hi guys I need a 12 ft long plank of oak and it needs to be aprox 3 or 4 inch thick and 12 wide , I need to cut it up for 2 rustic gate frames , hopefully one of you guyscan help Thanks Mark

Hi All , I have some of that white mineral oil that they sell in ikea and to me it looks and feels like baby oil , baby oil is safe all round as its for use on babies ,so when I run out of the mineral oil , I think I will be giving baby oil a go , what are your thoughts ,looking forward to hearing what you all think Cheers Mark

Hi I would say its elm it looks just like some that I hoiked out of thr river Stur by me , elm has a very distinct smell , cant describe it but very dectinctive , it would make a nice desk , good luck with whstever you do make, wish some elm would come my way I only have a couple of boards left Cheers Mark

Hi , as with all tools you get what you pay for , you may be lucky and get a good buy from ebay but I think with a carving bar and chain and sprocket you would be looking at £200/250, and the saw could go wrong after 3 weeks or just over £300 is what I paid for a new echo and carving bar and I know its going to last me yrs and yrs talk to Rob D on hear he will set you up with a good deal good luck with your carving Cheers Mark

Hi guys thanks for all your comments we all seem to be thinking along the same lines whitch is cool , I was think8ng of useing what I call bone oak , where the weather has stripped all the sap wood from oak branches and left nice hard curvy heart wood , it will be a bit of a time consuming challange but should look cool , will keep you posted , have got my girlfriend to do some sketches so now need to go see the lady that wants it and talk money , wish me luck I hate talking price Cheers Mark
