  1. My chain came by mistake so when I spoke to Laurence from Chainsaw Bars I just decided to keep it and even though I have only used it a few times its been cutting fine but could be the bar but I did clean ,dress sharpen etc before I went .

So thanks Andy I was trying to find out what people thought about this Walnut I had never heard of Butternut Walnut till today so I will ask again what do people think ,I had an old bit of English Walnut in the yard and comparing the bark they were so different, I will be so chuffed if it is Butternut as its ment to be very stable and good to make stuff from
  3. So some more photos and we have been doing some research and think it may be Butternut Walnut
  4. So those boards are still in the back of my van in that photo I will take some more when I unload them this afternoon
  5. So probably not the best photos but just wanted to show how pale this Walnut is and keen to hear peoples thoughts
  6. Yeah will have to watch that vid ,its a very pale colour though very thin sap wood band ,my mate has lived next door for almost 60yrs and has had Walnuts from it will borrow the girlfriends iphone as my phone isnt compatible with arbtalk photos

So I havent had the Alaskan Mill out for like over a year and this weekend just gone went up to Upminster to mill a Walnut tree that came down in my mates next door neighbours ,ran a file over the chain as it had not been used in a while but it just wasnt cutting right real hard work and a real bad finish ,so did the cutters and rakers again and still very slow cutting so I was wondering if the Hyper Skip just didnt like the green Walnut it was also so so pale I will get some pics up as soon as I can having a lazy morning as I worked all weekend and I my shoulders ache like F##K .
  8. Nice boards ,so I have been Chainsaw milling some Walnut this weekend and its so pale compared to yours I will post some photos tomorrow ,its defo over 50yrs old as my mate has lived next door for that long its so pale its mad

I kinda like it but putting big grooves round the butt not good a strap attached not a hook but totally like the idea and I have 2 of those jacks at the yard will have a play when I get a mo looking into attaching a pair of numatic wheels on the top of a sack truck to turn it i to a trolley for moving logs off wet grass without making too much of a mess

Hi I have done quite a bit of resin work and if it was me I would take a sharp chisel to that resin on the top to expose the crack again ,we were having a hard time filling cracks on a heap of coasters we made and we phoned Easy Composites and they advised a thinner viscosity resin but cant remember what one we also use a 2ml syringe to inject the resin into cracks works real well ,good luck and do post some pics of the finished slab.   16. Yeah get a roofers torch and a few boards and just have a go a stiff brush then oil ,did quite a lot of burning on chainsaw carvings and a summer house I like it but brushing is an important part of the process just like fractle burning now cladding done like that would be super cool

  19. Very soft and just doesn't last rots very quickly ,Lime for anything inside and Cedar , Doug Fir for outside obviously there are more timbers you can use ,Grinling Gibbons his carvings in Lime are totally stunning well worth a look . Cheers. Mark
  20. Hi mate the box is about 7ft tall and the same wide and about 10ft long will measure and take some photos tomorrow and I have an Arrowsmith kiln unit with all the drying schedules so hopefully just hang it on the back wall and way to go
  21. So watching the vid it only seems to have a small circular blade all that machine and it dont look like it could cut wide slabs such a shame
