  1. The Rfs is mainly based around soils and basic biology for whoever posted the 1st question you won't have a problem self studying as long as you do it 2hrs a night if that even an hr would be fine. L2 isn't hard I think it jumps up at L3 however you can go from a L2 to L4. You won't get a huge amount of tutor support on an Rfs L2 part time course but you won't need it the internet will help with any q's you should have or here! From what I've researched that I'm looking to start this sept is the tech cert L3 its a day a week and requires a lot more dedication than the L2 but is more recognised if looking to go into consultancy or junior tree officer position.
  2. I did the Rfs on an evening course however I had new born and stressed wife ended up missing the exam as I hadn't studied. Started again from fesh just working off the syllabus using google. Two months hard study every night for 2-3hrs and rebooked the exam I ended up with a credit. If you can be strict with yourself to put in the work make a work book based on the syllabus to give you something to revise once you've been through it all with notes and pictures. Then you can just book the exam.
  3. Ps. I always agree a rough price before commission.
  4. That looks great mate. With regard to pricing charge whatever you want you don't have to give a fair price for your time. The piece is your creation interpretation your timber your skill it's worth what someone's willing to pay but to you its priceless and it's yours. I've seen a whole range of prices from too cheap like most of us I imagine to the absolutely ridiculous. If everyone's prices were the same as the ridiculous would it be unfairly priced? I personally think that, that would be just what it cost.
  5. Looks alright might not have much grunt compared to a die grinder but looks like it will have more power than a dremel.
  6. Great work mate haven't seen it yet I'll start searching for your page on Facebook.
  7. how about http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/general-chat/67310-disaster-arborist-team.html http://www.dartinternational.co.uk/ Just right thank you.
  8. Hello everyone, I'm looking to choose a charity to raise money for and I'd like to try and find something that maybe linked to our industry in some way. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated this is my 1st port of call before I start googling away. Kind regards Phil
  9. Well we had a great day thought id post a pic of the finished article there will be a couple of close ups to follow. I used ronseal white wash decking oil for the finish.
  10. I have used some taxidermy yellow eyes from eBay before . I don't think there's much to choose from there but I think that I went onto a sellers website and found what I wanted.
  11. They're great love the three fingers the suggestion for 2 was comical genius. I thought four leaf clover and dice were good ideas you could put a number 4 on the 4th leaf. Might be hard to make the 6 on the dice show as the main number. The Six in letters would be cool.
  12. Whoa I'll have to sell a few more carvings to upgrade to a makita there a little bit more expensive. eBay £17.25p black and decker bad boy for me.
  13. Just bought myself a power file what a great little tool. Has anyone bought any other attachments for theirs?
  14. Ahh well spotted sorry yeah we work in and around Croydon a lot we are based in coulsdon.
  15. Haha nice 1 yeah chains are a hard carve always wanted to do one. We've been together 11yrs and have 2 kids thought it was about time I made her an honest woman. So I'm hoping she doesn't change too much 😖.
  16. Thanks guys Congrats Goodpig good idea on the table numbers. At least you didn't say you'd do the name cards lol.
  17. That and a load of saw dust. Carved this today for our wedding next Friday little more to do to it and then I'm going to use a white wash decking oil on it to finish. Replicated from a small ornament given to us when we 1st got together.
  18. That's looking great mate well done I'd say the best piece I've seen of yours very impressive look forward to seeing finished piece.
  19. It's not 100% chainsaw carved no. Neither is 99% of the stuff that all of us do and put on here but we still put it up on the chainsaw carving thread. Oh yeah that's because it was carved with a chainsaw. Sorry I haven't seen many 100% carved pieces on here why don't you ask Steve to make us a power carving thread instead!
  20. They're nice mate well done I'd say get as much for them as you can. I find that pieces I just carve off the cuff (quick carves) I sell for around £100-£150. Most commissions start from £250. Make it worth your while after all there certainly aren't as many of us carving things as there are of us cutting trees down ; ) I started selling stuff for like £40-£50 then I ended up with so many requests for the same thing I got p****d off with it and whacked the prices up so as not to get bored of at least earning the money ; ). Look forward to seeing more hope this helped.
