  1. I maybe interested in that cheers for the heads up.
  2. I have a couple of lumps of larch that haven't dripped a bead. Must be as its the stump and time of year.
  3. Sorry. As much use as: . . . More chance of being bitten by a daffodil. Lol
  4. About as much use : Chocolate tea pot. Chocolate fire guard. Handbrake on a canoe. More chance of being by a daffodil.
  5. Not a word I like to use but this is awesome dude. That's going to install some seriously good memories to little ones of stories that they've been told. Ps. Glad to hear your on the mend and looking forward to seeing more pics of your upcoming work.
  6. Hi mate cambium saver should be used but I'd say the combination of new prussiks, new rope and a cambium saver is a recipe for a far to quick decent for a beginner they'll also be a fair bit of slipping. I'd suggest asking to borrow some good condition used prussiks on your new rope until its worn in a bit. Then go to your new prussiks. Remember you should always climb with someone with you.
  7. Actually if that was a reduction it does exceed the bs3998 advised cut diameter, it might be alright actually as its only 1. Not sure you'll have to read up.
  8. You will be better off reading the bs3998 It outlines in very easy to understand terminology most pruning operations. If you haven't been trained according to this you should also pick up a climbers companion it will help you in your progress.
  9. Sip progress type c's On second pair they last so much longer 1st pair did a year and a half and were retired to being a pretty acceptable spare pair. Just as pleased with the next pair they are much smarter looking than the hi flex which are as durable as paper towels.
  10. Comfort is Key I agree with honeys I personally prefer how the sequoia holds me though. Defo try them on and have a hang.
  11. Cards and coffee in bed nice lay in till 6:15 instead of 5:30 then a full English cooked by the Mrs few hours playing with the kids then down the park for a bit where there is also an arboretum to walk round. Then up to the folks nanny gets the kids we go down the pub for a couple and then to end a curry from mine and my dads Favourite curry house washed down with a couple of cobras. Happy Fathers Day all.
  12. Nice work mate looking forward to seeing the finished piece.
  13. Also a few pins in the bark carefully knocked in as not to be seen should hold the bark on.
  14. Personally As you are rushing slightly with this piece I would cut a piece of ply the same diameter glue and pin it to the underside. Then I would complete your rough sanding process as you said but before applying anything get the air compressor on it to remove dust stuck in the grain. If all were to fail and it was to split all is not lost you could look for a second hand piece of glass to go on top either way if you want to varnish you should defo wait till its dry. Anyways looking forward to you posting up the finished piece.
  15. I hit one with a stump grinder once it was a street tree I was grinding out and it wasn't clear who the cable belonged to I thought I'll just bury it and pretend that I knew nothing about it and then I thought nah it'll come back on us so I went and bought some telecom connecting blocks from a b&q and fixed it, gave it a mega wrap of electrical tape buried it as deep as possible. Never heard a thing. Ta daaa
  16. Great job he'll be over the moon with that. Love the owl colouring beautiful piece of walnut.
  17. Hi guys just getting my log burner installed in the new house and never had a fire before. I have tons and tons of soft wood which I've always thought wasn't good to burn however after reading through a few recent threads it appears I may have a decent heat source from them after all. So question is if I split it up how long should I let it dry before I burn and should I have the chimney more regularly swept? Thanks
  18. Lol. Compare the meerkat nice 1 abercarver. Whatever you price them at make it worth your while don't forget it's art and no piece is ever likely to be exactly the same.
  19. Looks cool nice form. I like the shot you've taken from the back.
  20. Thanks guys I always did the odd shroom and then after 16yrs last year I thought actually I could carve something a little different so I carved an owl and once I realised I could do it I kept challenging my self to do something different id say i'm never completely happy with a finished piece I always think I wish I'd done that, but i very rarely mark out my work but perhaps that'll change as I progress. Still haven't carved half the things I'd like to and that list grows everyday so its a great hobby.
