  1. Tons and tons of timber mostly manageable sizes probably say 75% is softwood but a lot of it has been there a couple of years already. I'm looking for someone to come and make me and offer on taking it help can be given with telehandler to load. Timber is located in South Croydon.
  2. Personal opinion late summer as long as it's not to hot. The tree should have stored enough energy for the winter and still have enough for compartmentalisation of the wounds. There are many views on times of year to prune.
  3. Thanks Dave yeah there's lots to work out of it yet I don't want to get bogged down with to much detail bug at the sand time form is important to me so I hope I can find the happy medium with it. Wanted to do more to it tonight but my angle grinder popped so I'll have to replace that tomorrow. Really appreciate the advice mate and I'll take it all on board there's still a fair amount of thickness to the wings although I wish I'd left a little more meat toward the body. There's a fair bit more shaping and detailing to the wings and tail feathers. Hopefully I'll get a bit more done tmoz and get up a couple more pics. Cheers Phil
  4. Right I'm just under 2hrs in few mistakes that I'll change next time but hey it's all part of the fun. Prob another 2hrs left to do.
  5. Yes mate great work really nice.
  6. Yes I completely agree splinters. Just wanted a little insight on the wing joint to log and to see what the talons looked like in a few different degrees of difficulty ie going in for the kill possibly or just tucked in during a flight. Thanks for the reply I still didn't find any carving pics so it will be my 100% interpretation today ; )
  7. Hi just a quick update I've found enough wildlife shots but would love some carving pics. ThAnks Ps. Will post some pics when finished.
  8. Alright guys I'm looking to carve my 1st soaring owl! Been meaning to carve 1 for ages and I've got a commission that I'd like to incorporate a couple in. I want to get in a practice 1 tomorrow but I'm struggling for reference images I'd like to do a barn owl. So if any1 has any pics that either others have carved or just a wildlife shot it would be really appreciated.
  9. Nice start mate they're all very charming. Keep them coming.
  10. Hi mike I love liberon decking oil it's very thick unlike some decking oils that are very runny you can just paint it on apply as many coats as you can leaving around 15mins between each coat before it just won't absorb anymore watch out for runs. Dependant upon the timber it may keep absorbing overnight so just keep applying till you build it up. The grain still shows and your left with a nice glossy like finish that with all the coats has formed a nice flexible protection layer that lasts.
  11. Hi sorry Ray I've only just noticed your comment I use a standard fencing treatment as a base coat 2-3 of those then black plastikote spray paint. The filler is osmo wood filler I love a lot of there products. Liberon decking oil for the base which was recommended to me by an osmo supplier. I've used the liberon on lots of work and it just brushes on lots of coats form a great finish which is very long lasting. Cheers Phil.
  12. If you were doing a job as a favour and subsequently opened yourself up for criticism by the customer supposed friend or whatever then you should have fully explained to them spelling it out if necessary how the trees were going to result. This way you wouldn't feel insulted and could have quite plainly said the trees are now safe for the time being as I explained to you and now unless your prepared to pay the reasonable charges I have offered you to have the trees fully removed then there is no more I can do for you. Thank you very much good bye. Then don't dwell on it and feel good knowing deep down you've done them a favour and that in your professional opinion you have done what was best for the trees. Peace.
  13. Yeah I can't stand the fact they get away without it. I say if you want to ride on the road why not have a number plate. I believe that most of the roads aren't suitable for cyclists and that they create a hazard to road users. There should also be a licence test taken to educate cyclists on how to ride ie not side by side but in single file.
  14. Please put up a photo of what you've done. Personally I would have topped and trimmed and maintained annually by trimming all round. Either that or felled & ground out and then replaced. Free for family, friends get a mates rate I tell them what I would charge for public and then whack a chunk off mainly to cover costs with a small drink on top.
  15. Haha well yes we use it in a proper way. There are techniques that the saw is used in a different manor to say logging up ie your rasping but at the end of the day use it how you want if it creates the effect you want then that's sweet. Just respect the kickback zone and where the correct ppe. What where you carving? What saw where you using?
  16. This was my 2nd bear finished with a coat of wood stain then black outdoor furniture wood paint.
  17. Decent mate! Nice 1. What's a sandoflex is it like a sandpaper mop type thing?
  18. Yeah just burn it. If there's any trace of soil a stone or wire that's pretty much a no go for any pro.
  19. Thanks for the feedback guys I used the arbotech mini grinder for the base time consuming but it works well for bark detail and also good for fur.
