  1. Hi yes mushrooms good place to start carve the base 1st then flip it and carve the top.
  2. I was asked to carve this from a fallen beech it was the only piece that hadn't cracked and without any rot. Came across a few pockets of rot but persevered and this was the end result.
  3. Why not works for us. Good training/ practice for the less experienced. The job gets done quickly and the work load is equal.
  4. This was the shape it was originally apart from a few rogue branches just made smaller, I actually thought it was a very nice specimen. The work was recommended rather than it being felled as originally requested. ; )
  5. Inspiration from a piece carved by "wisewood" hope you don't mind mate but had this piece of yew screaming at me. Phil
  6. They are all around £40 eBay item number 310858608342.
  7. Nice 1 that was a touch it running after looking at the state of it in your pic. The side casing your talking about is fairly cheap on eBay and the chain brake an easy change over. It's always nice when done because the main body's always clean up nicely, once you've got the new bar, chain and sprocket sorted it would almost feel like new. Also the reason you feel decent compression is because its in most peoples opinion the best small saw ever made they're built to take an absolute battering by most of monkeys.
  8. I have 10" dime tip canon carver bar you'll need to change the sprocket so it will run 1/4 pitch and oil pump drive it comes as a kit I'm sure rob d will sort you out. As for the saw if it hasn't been run for a year sounds a little suspect but 1st things I'd do are a couple of pulls to get a feel for the compression if good fresh fuel clean air filter reset the carb tuning screws to default and replace plug. Let us know how you get on.
  9. Back when I was a dirty smoker I used newspaper for a rizzla and I've used the chipper exhaust to light a fag on more than one occasion after a lighter loss or breakage. 4yrs smoke free now so don't need to worry about these dramas.
  10. I have a dewalt with a variable speed which I find very useful.
  11. That's a monster!! Were you the guy looking to hire a saw with a 5ft bar? If so I can see why.
  12. Nice one looking better and better through each stage. The wood looks like a piece of spruce.
  13. The title is the tool you want if you are going down this road the arbotech mini grinders are a lot safer than the Lancelot chainsaw cutting discs you are talking about. If you can get a paddle control grinder then it would be safer but I've used one and they are not worth the risk.
  14. My little Stovax Huntingdon 25 does the trick. When we do our next move I'll be going for a bigger stove with back boiler. Also contemplating a biomass boiler it's for defo. in the final house.
  15. Ask to demo it for a couple of cuts don't forget it needs to have enough power to cut against the grain and stand the test of time. That's if your looking for a comparison.
  16. I tend to do most of my carving with a 26 then swap to my ms200 to do the finer detail and smaller cuts. So what I'm saying is on that basis the echo would probably work for me. Things to find out are what is necessary to get it swapped to a carving bar as this is the most important part for use of a saw of that size.
  17. It's easy not worth the hassle and will cost a fortune there's a lot to change I contemplated it once. By the time I'd totted it all up wasn't worth it. I just bought 1 off the bay for about £250 figured it was well worth it even if the saw didn't last cause then I'd change it all over. Still going strong!
  18. Hi Kim I really like your relief carving. Look forward to seeing more of your work in the future and congrats on the new born.
  19. Nice 1 Tom its a very nice idea and a great carve.
  20. Yes mate love that idea it looks outstanding. Well done!!!
  21. Found a nice image that's close to your stance wanted to post it for you to help you finish him/her off. But it won't let me upload for some reason. Can u send me your email or post it up and I'll send it over.
