  1. Should do the trick. Good luck at the races hopefully someone will give you a good tip mate.
  2. It made a bit of a sad story with pain in the arse neighbours very funny mate nice 1.
  3. Hi Jon I got Friday off as well. Wife has collared me to take the kids to Paultons park (peppa pig world). Yay can't wait I was hoping to have the Friday to myself early round of golf then up to the wood pile for a carving session got to do a badger for someone haven't done one yet. Rest of the weekend looking like a bit of a wash out got plenty of in door diy to get done and outdoor lol. Have a good time at the races! Cheers Phil Ps. Read the Neil's thread cracked me up hope you get that sorted.
  4. Another 201t top handle replacement this afternoon. They break so easily compared to the 020's 200's.
  5. I'm also about to replace my boots not sure what to go for quite like the Airstreams. In the last few years I've had the Haix protector pro's and currently got the Haix air power gold. Agreed very comfy and have lasted longer than the others approaching 2yrs id get them again but I fancy a change. I find the soles on most of the boots I've had are worn out or let water in after a 1yr 1/2.
  6. It looks good. I can't offer any criticism as its not necessary. But I can say the more you carve the easier and quicker it becomes. Keep them coming it becomes addictive.
  7. Cheers Si I'm after a new dremel any recommendations on any particular model that you may have or have heard to be good?
  8. Just one that I can knock out in my lunch break. It wasn't a particularly rushed carve. Certainly not a speed carve like the pro's do. I've got a bit of work I'll do to it with a dremel on the face so once I've done that and put the eyes in it'll have been an hour and a half.
  9. Hi Sean, Hate reading that you've had the down points it must be very very hard I'm sure. But there are going to be endless opportunities for you as long as you keep your positivity and dreams going strong. I don't know you but I can tell and imagine you being a huge influence and inspiration in people's lives just from reading your posts. Keep up the hard work you'll look back on the hard times one day and laugh and make a joke of it because you've got a great sense of humour. All the best. Phil
  10. Like that looks great. I'd like to have a go at one of those.
  11. Haven't had the motivation to get on and carve yet this year so I relit the fire with this quick carve took around an hr just chainsaw. Customer doesn't want it sanded at all. I'd quite like to pick up one of those mop sander heads for the die grinder and give it a quick go over.
  12. Very Nice work. Haven't motivated my self to carve anything yet this year don't know why just can't seem to commit anytime to it. Thanks for posting seeing some carvings makes me want to get on with it.
  13. I'd put the sleeves on if it became an insurance issue possibly but it would be begrudgingly. I hate wearing the trousers in the summer. I'm bored of this now I really am I'm no PPe policeman but when they invented the bullet proof vest do you think they got turned down because it was too hot. It's just a good idea. Protection around the legs that is all end of, your all entitled to your own opinion don't need to question mine mine won't change my argument is to prevent people who are worried about sweaty legs or the possibility of something looking good to not cut themselves.
  14. I've been climbing 17yrs daily. I've had plenty of close calls but no chainsaw cuts. You put a roll eyes at the end. Please don't patronise me with its not in the training is it. I've trained plenty of guys over the years oh and guess what a couple of them have cut themselves how??? Because they were doing something that they shouldn't be doing a silly mistake they all say but I'm sure you'll be quick to blame the training now lol. How many people on here with a good few years of experience can say that they haven't done a one handed cut and hold? That's in the training as a no no but do you do it?. When your reducing the top out of a big leylandii your making loads of cuts all around your legs. I'm not saying don't get the A's I'm merely saying that it is possible being a climber to have a silly mistake maybe rushing or thinking it'll be ok this once moment in those instances are when it happens and if your wearing full protection you can be like ooh F**k best not do that again and crack on not have to get down or potentially be rescued and be off work for however long with no money coming in to support your family. They recommend climbing in type c's We may not like it but just be bloody grateful that they don't make a chainsaw jacket mandatory. God anyone that's cut themselves must wear one of those now don't they? well personally you would think so seeing as your advising that I need to wear type c's. Lmfao
  15. Oh I do in deed because oh yeah that's because I'd rather be safe than sorry. All I've done is offer some sound advice oh and look the haters have to hate sad sad world we live in.
  16. I find I don't really sweat huge amounts when I climb it's more when I get down and have to drag the brash.
  17. Fair enough mate. If I had fully recalled how it happened I'd have given you the full account. But they were little touches really no full revving action. Perhaps you could start a thread "how did you put little Knicks in your trousers?" In seriousness my point to was if I hadn't of had full protection I may well of had a little cut. To the op if your self employed and working for yourself it's upto you really. Otherwise ask your employer and then it's upto him.
  18. Haha there's still time mate I'm sure!
  19. Prob can't no mate just remember having the chain cuts on my trousers I think I recall one on a cypress take down just buzzing off branches quickly everywhere I could reach from one position one handed no doubt and got a little kick off into it. Like I've said it's the over confidence or over competence that bites you the silly little cuts that you take the risk on and I've heard it from guys I've worked with over the years that have nicked themselves that that's what it was a silly little cut they shouldn't have made. Who really cares how it happened anyway the point of this discussion is the relevance to the fact that it can happen and that hse does say class c from what I remember therefore it's nail on the head with regard to insurance questions. As for whoever said that the insurance didn't question it that's utter **** they want to know the ins and outs of everything regarding accident EVERYTHING!
  20. I fully agree for the sake of a small amount more weight. Why risk it too look good? Your saw work is good till you have that momentary lapse of concentration or over confidence. Been climbing like a nutter for 17yrs now and always worn type c's. Hit the back of my calf twice with a 200 and although they were very light touches it still hit the protection. In my opinion Type A's are for groundies.
  21. Just enjoy yourself be competent but not over competent. Reading through the course structure and expectations should help you. Also reading the afag leaflets on chainsaw use. Hse leaflets. Etc. you'll be given all these anyway but if you want to have some back ground knowledge before you go these will help. The Arboricultural Association has a great website with mountains of resources. http://www.nptc.org.uk/assets/documents/c3e20eee38b34e17a49ef54f8e2d8819.pdf http://www.nptc.org.uk/assets/documents/0d21b9566fd04492aaffa6b25f2e3432.pdf Hope these all help you to research some of the topics but you'll learn everything anyway have fun!
  22. We are a small AA approved contractor in Coulsdon looking to employ a groundsman/trainee climber. Cs 38/39 required Upto date 1st Aid training and driving licence would be beneficial but not essential. Please send me your details and we will be in contact.
  23. Nice one Sean don't feel it as a knock back see it as there was the possibility of upper body physio needed and you cruised that already. I do some chainsaw carving and that's a nice piece in your photo. How tall is it? Have you done any carving?
  24. Yeah as I said before mate on your fb page https://www.facebook.com/Si.at.wisewoodsculptor great flow to it and motivating me to make more time to dedicate to get back carving. Cheers Phil.
