  1. Thanks mate yeah was fun for a 1st. I've got my carving bug back I can't wait to do my next.
  2. Haha yeah sorry about that. Cheers tho.
  3. Thanks Ian I liked yours a lot too mate.
  4. Cheers Sloth. That's savage mate couldn't agree with you more why would someone do that.
  5. So I bought a new blow torch and gave him a scorching. Fairly pleased with him few things I'll try to improve on next time.
  6. Great to read of your escape Shaun I definitely think becoming an Author would be an Idea. I would buy your book. Also love the pics. Glad you got out and about to your preferred surroundings with your loved ones. Hope your having a good day. Kind regards Phil.
  7. Nice and easy to carve if your doing any sanding it tends to clog up pads quickly. Can sap up fairly quickly i would just explain that to the client but I would also give it lots of coats of decking oil within 15mins of each coat until it doesn't absorb anymore then same again after 24hrs if necessary. In my experience and I maybe wrong doing it this way but it builds a nice flexible shine like finish that lasts a longtime. I use Liberon clear decking oil its a bit thicker than most and I brush it on.
  8. Nice 1 thanks Ian I thought about paint and nice badger. I've just ordered a Monument 3450G Soldering & Brazing Gas Torch with the map gas as suggested by Si. I have a big propane gas blow torch at mo and a Little campinggas blow torch the propane torch is ok but when it comes to small areas you want to scorch the campinggas torch is about as much use as a handbrake on a canoe. If this doesn't do the trick I'll be painting. Thanks Phil
  9. Cheers Si that's great advice. I had no idea about the vinegar and wire wool. I'd prob need some more help understanding the application do I make a mix to apply I'd probably have to add some Oak chips would this not make it blue though? I'd also be a bit worried that it may bleed out from where applied how did you get such nice straight lines?
  10. I've still got the burning detail to do but fingers crossed it will make it more Badger like. Lol I'll pop some more pics up once I've burn it. Hopefully it won't be a pile of Ash.
  11. Cool! Nice 1 Geesaw when are you starting it?
  12. Hope you post the pics up Geesaw. I think we would all like to see it.
  13. Hi Sean, Speechless is the word mate it's times like these we all wish we had a magic wand. Keep Strong you'll be back with your family in no time with endless love and support from all round!!!!.
  14. Hi Our HL95 must have some sort of fuel problem as it will only run on full revs on full choke any ideas what I can do to fix it before I lose it for a couple of weeks in the shop?
  15. With regard to what you charge ring up your local lift hire company and get a list of prices for each machine. Try and base your costing as close to if possible even a little lower. This would be more likely to secure you the work and as you begin to get a name for yourself and demand rises so can your rates. Some great marketing advice there from Stefan.
  16. We hire our own lifts if necessary for tree work. You may be able to get some sort of maintenance contracts for flats etc. doing the gardens gutters street lights window cleaning using it. If I were doing it id research the local hire place and try and find out which and what companies/services in your local area are using the specific lift and then you maybe able to approach them? Just a thought good luck with whatever you decide to do. Cheers Phil
  17. Very nice great carve I also love the pipe work.
  18. I have an ms200 with back handle With 10inch dime tip cannon bar for detailing. I do a lot with it. I have a 261 for blocking out with a standard bar as that's out on the tools daily. I wouldn't touch your husky if it's out on the tools. You have to generally change the sprocket and oiler when changing to a carving bar so prob worth getting a 192 up together. Rob d on here can advise you on a carving set up for it in sure.
  19. Cheers yeah it is satisfying doing it in your lunch break, as long as you get a bit of grub down you as well otherwise it can feel like a long day.
