  1. I had the same problem a few years back with an old transit tipper, they worked loose just by weight carrying. Wheel nuts should be on your weekly vehicle checklist. I check my regularly now.
  2. To send a text to terminate ones employment is downright rude, & shows lack of respect & complete immaturity. There are plenty of young lads & lasses out there with good work ethics & willing to learn new skills to progress. The employee may be financially better off in the short term working in a factory but I guarantee there will be little career progression & usually becomes very mundane after a short period of time. Don't give up looking for the right people as they will be the future of your business if you want to grow.

    The Dogs!

Hi GTS, have you thought about a rescue dog? There are far too many in rescue that are waiting to find a forever home. Many sadly will be killed due to over capacity but yet people can breed at home without licence which is adding to the growing problem. Many rescue centres have pups aswell from dogs brought in, in pregnancy. Worth a thought.
  4. Another option I have been using is convincing customers to keep wood chip & some of the logs generated. You have to really sell it some but it is working. It's about time chip wasn't seen as a waste product.
  5. This truck was up for auction & reached the price it is up for now, but he pulled it off just before auction ended. Obviously wanted to see what someone would pay for it.
  6. Glad no one was seriously hurt. You lads deserve a beer or two. If you need help with work or tools etc let everyone know, there are some good people on here.
  7. Can I join if I own a Santana PS10? they look a bit like a landy.
  8. Thought I would join the topic. My understanding is that you are entitled to prune back to boundary any branches encroaching your boundary, if located in conservation area or tree preservation order attached then intention of works or permission for works is required. You do not need the tree owners permission to do so but in keeping with good neighbourly relations it is always best to discuss the proposed work. The arisings should be offered back to the owner of the tree, if they do not want them then it is your responsibility to dispose of correctly. The works must be in accordance with BS3998 & not be done in such a way that it causes the tree to become unsafe or cause irrepairable damage. The tree owner also has a duty of care to manage the trees located within the boundary of their property so as not to cause a nuisance to other homeowners.
  9. I would like to see cyclists have adequate insurance to cover against collisions, but I would also like to see the 10 million or so drivers without insurance dealt with, I would also like to see a little more respect & patience on the roads from all users. So you have to sit behind a horse & rider, or slow down when approaching people walking in the road due to no pavements, or cyclists riding two abreast, is it really going to impact that much on your life if you have to wait a bit to pass, whereas not being patient could have catastrophic consequences for all involved.
  10. Why do horses & riders wind you up?
  11. P.S. Thanks for the jelly babies aswell.
  12. Many thanks to Spectrum Plant Ltd for the very prompt delivery of my chipper bolts. Ordered yesterday, got them just now. Thanks a lot. Very impressed.
  13. I don't want to derail the thread but I have been casually looking into composite panels as they are lighter & super strong. I would imagine they are not cheap. I found a website called service metals & you can find out the weight & applications for the different panels. Might be worth a look.
  14. Arboriculture & forestry is now covered by Land based Industry Skills Scheme so you would need to contact BALI. I've worked for large & small construction firms & they are all a pain in the backside, especially when it comes to payment of invoices. They always seem to contact me when work is a bit slack so I can't say no.
  15. 10% on your sofa legs, mine were 15. My air dried are usually around 16 even ones that have sat by the stove for a while are around 10.
  16. I should of added that each site I have worked on I have had to undergo the sites own health & safety course which usually only takes around 45 mins. But if you are going to contract long term on sites then the card would be beneficial to you. Remember that you are a paid skilled contractor on their site & should have adequate insurance cover.
  17. I do tree work on construction sites & as long as the contractor has your UTR number CSCS has not been needed so enquire with the contractor first before you pay for the card.
  18. There are a couple of firms in the UK importing them from South Africa but they are usually older ones that have been refurbished & look too good to got to work & get covered in wood chip.
  19. They are awesome, if I could afford the fuel & importing parts if needed I would have one.
  20. Got specs from Toyota Australia, 4.4 or 4.2 doesn't make a lot of difference on fuel consumption when we pay the best part of 140 a litre in the UK.
  21. The Landcruiser 70 specs are: Single cab trayback kerb weight kg 2065 GVW kg 3300 Gross trailer weight braked kg 3500 Gross trailer weight unbraked kg 750 Engine 4.4 V8 32 valve dohc no belts gear & chain driven diesel. Fuel consumption combined (L/100km) 11.5 It has a massive 430 nm of torque @ 3400rpm. The engine specs are why they are not produced in the UK & we have the hilux instead.
  22. 4% not a chance. The 200 year old oak beams & door frames in my cottage are around 12%, I know because when I got my moisture meter I was testing everything.
  23. My neighbour & myself had a similar scenario a few weeks back where my trees had started to encroach our phone lines causing intermittent service, the engineer came out & re routed to a different pole, no charge to myself or my neighbour.
  24. Hi all, seriously thinking of a buying a defender 110 V8 pick up, fuel consumption aside, does anyone have experience of using one as an arb truck.
  25. Bear in mind this is Mitox first attempt at a climbing saw so they can only get better. Ok if you are starting up on a real tight budget it would earn its money on one job.
