  1. Thanks for your help, the tree is/was until I took it down about 5 year ago in the UK. The leaves were around 6-7 inch.
  2. Any help to ID this would be greatly appreciated.
  3. Thanks for letting me know, the post is taking a bit longer due to last weeks weather. Happy turning.[emoji106]
  4. Hi Mark, posted these for you this morning, 1st class Royal Mail, so you should get them tomoz. They are fairly sharp at the moment, I use a bench grinder with a green wheel & then a wet stone to sharpen but an ordinary grinding wheel will suffice. Or you could go old school & use a flat stone (not one you find in your garden) which I do on occasions. Happy turning. P.s. It can be very addictive.
  5. Hey Mark, I’ve got two roughing out & two bowl gouges you can have that I already have doubles for. Message me your address & I’ll post them to you.
  6. I’ll throw this one in for debate. Is the removal of the tree to abate a nuisance? ie: is the tree leaning over the clients garden, preventing them from enjoying their outside space? Thoughts?
  7. And a monkey puzzle that looks like its bark is slipping down.
  8. Aira Force in the Lake District has a wishing tree/log.
  9. It may have been hollowed out using an Arbortech, Proxxon or Dremel with a flexible shaft.
  10. Hello Mark, I would be interested in undertaking a site visit with a view to quoting for the work. I’ll pm you my mobile for a chat.
  11. I know Mike Dean at Barley Wood in East Sussex, turns large pieces like porch columns.
  12. It's an MB100. It's either 3t or 3.5t. They were in production from 1981 to 1996 not many made it over here in the UK.
  13. Any help with ident on this one would be gratefully received.
  14. These came up for the first time this year on a customers Beech and within four weeks the entire tree has defoliated. I'm guessing the tree has been infected for some time before the fungus appeared. Removal for this one I think.
  15. Not used one myself but have been looking at the 3inch xact chuck & I don't think you can go wrong for £50. They seem as well made as all the other brands. At that price I've got one on the way.
  16. Hello mate, I hope you and yours are well. We are not bad, we lost the big fella back in October, so just the two dogs now. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  17. I was made redundant after 15 odd years in a sweaty factory manufacturing boxes & part of the redundancy deal was retraining, so I became a road traffic accident investigator, did that for a couple of years when I was diagnosed with the cancer, got made redundant again while under going treatment, got the all clear 18 months later and felt ready to take on part time work, a friend of a friend who knew this bloke was starting up his own tree surgery business was looking for a hand, so I started with him on one day a week & within a couple of months I was working full time for him, fell in love with the work & he offered to pay for me to go to Merritt wood but I declined and payed for the RFS myself as I didn't want to be tied financially to him in case the big c came back. I spent around 3 years with him, learnt loads from him and the subbies he got in, I started getting the odd job from neighbours & relatives so decided to give it a go on my own. 8 years on I now look after three private estates, one commercial site and I fit domestic tree work in between. 18. The 80's wasn't all about music, we had bmx. This is my old school Aero Reflex freestyler. This bike is 33 years old.
  19. Like many animals, dogs will self medicate which is called zoopharmagognosy by utilising natural remedies to treat various problems like digestive, aches, pains etc. For instance a dog will eat grass (they are quite particular on grass type) to induce a gag reflex enabling them to evacuate their stomach of excess acid. As you know tree bark contains various substances like tannins, lignin, polysaccharides like cellulose & through years of evolution the domestic dog has learnt which substances it needs to treat various ailments. Sometimes they self medicate as a preventative measure. Dogs are very quick to habit form if not corrected in the right way and my thinking is that due to the volume of damage you are experiencing on the Heath there is either a number of sickly dogs or one has formed a bark habit. The other thought that has crossed my mind is that the dog has not been initially successful finding what it needs so is trying other trees. My suggestion would be to install several wildlife cameras to the trees that have the most damage as there is obviously something in the bark the dog likes or needs. Most dog owners walk their dogs at the same time and place most of the time. I hope this helps.
  20. The "why" it's happening could be a dog self medicating.
  21. I bought a new stihl sh86 in 2015, within 18 months the carb was knackered, this also happened to new stihl hedge trimmer so I bought the echo 250 blower/vac and haven't been disappointed yet. Stihl's quality has diminished over the years, I won't be buying stihl products in the future.
  22. Signed by me & mine. We have a small connection with Bedgelert, around 7 years ago we entered into negotiations to purchase the convenient store, so was able to look at the finances and 80% of the turnover was generated by tourism so a development like this would destroy the local businesses which the residents also rely on. We didn't buy it in the end as half way through the process the owner changed his mind. This is one place that should be left well alone by development.
  23. Nice bit of "levitational logging" Jonny Burch.
  24. Hi David, he's not on arbsafe or Arbtalk but will mention it to him. There are several cctv cameras which the police are going through. There is a financial reward for any info leading to the recovery but it's unlikely they will be found but you never know.
