  1. Hence why I did not reply to my location. Well said easy lift guy.
  2. Oh dear. If thats what the boss & the client want as an employee you do not have a lot of choice. I hate seeing work like that when driving around as many of us are in the business to educate the general public in arboriculture & passionate about our vocation.
  3. Not working today so thought I would split some timber for the wood burner, went to my truck to get the mattock & noticed the sliding side door open & the lock busted. Luckily I don't keep anything of any value in it overnight. The truck is parked so close to my bedroom window I could roll out of bed & go to work. They didn't even disturb the dogs. These guys no what they are doing. Be vigilant fellas.
  4. In a previous life I was an insurance investigator & it would be extremely difficult if not impossible to prove that one suppliers logs caused a fire to a property. The home owner is responsible for what they burn in their fire & what precautions they take to minimize risk. Thats why your chimney should be swept annually & cert issued & the need for building insurance.
  5. If its within your budget, been looked after & can earn you some money for a couple of years until you can afford to upgrade to a better motor then go for it. I've spent a couple of hundred & got a good motor & also spent a few grand & got a lemon. Its always a gamble with any motor new or old.
  6. Mine have done the same but same as DrewB use my feet as a rake. Lesson learnt. For me though, so comfortable will only wear airstreams.
  7. Hard to give accurate advice from a photo, but if the tree is not near any building etc & the failures were due to the weather & not disease or decay, I would suggest moving the trampoline, remove the failed limbs from the crown, remove any dead, dying, diseased or crossing branches. No need to reduce if it does not need it.
  8. Thanks for the feedback people. Defo a consideration if I can find a decent single cab so may be in touch with you Peter later in the year. Many thanks
  9. That is steep, I thought they would be about £1500-£2000, seeing as you can get a full ally box made for less. My opinion was that it was a cheaper viable option over a full conversion.
  10. I'm looking for some feedback on people who are using the pro tipper on their pick ups. Such as build quality for prolonged use, weight of the unit, was it money well spent. Thinking of down sizing from 3.5t as two wheel drive is pants as most of my tip sites are non tarmac.
  11. I know a fella who has an English Oak, Ash & Hazel among other more exotic trees which he grew from seed. All around twenty years old & he reckons you can bonsai most species. Apparently its all about pruning the correct roots as a sapling & continuing root pruning on a regular basis.
  12. I would physically restrain a member of public if it meant they were going to get injured or killed entering a work area or put a member of staff at risk. Its my insurance that will have to pay & get investigated by HSE, police etc all because someone thinks they can do what they like. I would like to think that common sense would prevail if I were to be prosecuted but willing to take that risk. Not every work site can be ring fenced to prevent the ignorant general public entering. If you are working for a company then they will have their own guidelines to deal with these situations which employees should be versed in & adhere to at all times.
  13. My first transit tipper cost £2500. Never let me down in 4 years of owning it. You could spend a fortune on a vehicle & have probs.
  14. I run a movano single cab tipper, they are one of the lightest 3.5 tonners on the market, especially in front wheel drive as no rear drive train. The cabs sit considerably higher than transits etc so flood water no problem & a low tipper back which makes for easier loading & unloading. Massive amount of space in the cab. Only four tyres to replace instead of six. Engine parts easy to come by as they have a renault engine. Carry weight exceptionally well & cheap to buy second hand. One downside is vauxhall main dealers no nothing about them but renault dealers do.
  15. Dismantle & replant a walnut away from building.
  16. A good crew who know what they are doing is key. Communicate, concentrate & respect. Tiredness can kill. The tree will still be there tomorrow.
  17. For starters remove anything of value from the garage. I would set a lowering rope & pulley on a decent anchor to the butt, & then a tag line around the butt aswell. Pull the lowering rope as tight as you can & lock it off. Get up tree sever butt from stem while two groundies operate the lowering & tag line in an attempt to get the butt away from the garage or better still off. If not sever butt, lower onto roof & cut up & remove.
  18. Always at least one on ours every night.
  19. I agree & would love to use an hgv but as most of my work is domestic theres no way my customers would allow me to park on their drive. I even have a few who do not like my 3.5t on the drive in case it breaks the paving. I would imagine there are a few more in the same position. Generally you use what vehicles suit your needs.
  20. Sorry to hear you got cleaned out, been there, not pleasant. Hope insurance pays out in a timely fashion. I bet the police just gave you a crime number to give to your insurer. All this stolen kit is sitting in shipping containers waiting to go to Europe. The police know this but don't have resources to investigate or can't be arsed with the paperwork.
  21. One of the problems with using arb wood chip for small domestic units is it has to be graded, so the chip has to be uniform in shape & size. As a lot if us use small towable chippers, they don't have the function to grade the chip during processing & also produce slivers on certain timbers which can jam the feed screw on the boiler unit. Also leaf in wood chip can also cause problems to domestic units.
  22. Hi Bob, I'll ask around @ where we train ours & other internet forums for you. Social internet sites are becoming a good medium for rehoming. Darren
