    Slang!

Nope. That's the way it is. As in, "You don't get owt for nowt." Meaning, "You don't get something for nothing."

Uh, yeah... sorry about that. Got my sums the wrong way round. Did 50x39/36 , when I should have done 50x36/39.

Tamping or tamping down or bucketing or bucketing down or sheeting or sheeting down = lots and lots of the comforting stuff... rain.

    Slang!

Where I hark from, pop means sweet fizzy drinks. Never heard of 'creeter' but critter can be used to mean the same. "... or tasty as in pretty girl, who could also be called a bit of crumpet, which is also something nice roasted by the fire smeared in butter." Clears throat and coughs several times. Never heard 'scrumpy' used in those contexts. But have heard the word 'scrummy' in similar. Scrumpy can and often does mean a rough cider/cizzer. The kind of liquid or semi-gel that will strip paint at fifty yards, (54.16m for the youngsters) and supply a hangover for a week. Two pints equals heaven and three results in a viewing of the world from a relaxing reclined position, i.e. incapable of getting up from wherever you landed. Nowt = nothing Neh = no A know nothing = someone who has little or no knowledge of the subject being spoken of or situation at hand. Trousers or trous = pant Pants = an under garment worn between trousers and skin Bottle-it = to lose ones nerve or to chicken out IT = anything even loosely connected to the notion of 'information technology'. Whereas 'It' is a 1950s or 1950s film, where contaminated sugar leads to ants growing to enormous size and eating everything and everybody. ID = a proof of personal identification ID or id = to identify something or someone id = the self within, that part of oneself which is inate, impulsive, the really you inside your mind Sacrifice = somebody who relinquishes their life-force to appease the rain gods I find it disconcerting when it's not raining. There must be something wrong with the world if it's not raining... everyone knows that. Push-bike = a non motorised bicycle Bike = a motorised or non motorised (bi)cycle Lid = can also mean a safety helmet or hard-hat Bad = something edible which has ceased being entirely safe to consume. Or it can mean someone who it rotten. But in no civilised country or nation should the word ever be used to apportion blame or a mistake on ones part. 'Bad' being used in such a manner, is quite simply absurd and those who use it in such a way, equally so!
  7. Yesterday rained a bit but enough to get damp. And then the sun came out. Today it's been dry and chilly. Good weather for the many fireworks and bonfire hereabouts. Not so got for the cat.
  8. Admit it. You just want to make sure you're not in the same place as me. That way you've got less chance of getting rained on.
  9. That would be telling but safe to say, sometimes on the south coast, sometimes up north and sometimes in between. But in between right now. Where the rain is...

    2014 550 xpg

Considering you already have the aforementioned Stihls, go for the 550XP/G. Little point in duplication.

    Poppy boxes?

Got a couple of poppies in Aldi the other week. Fellow there with a chestful of medals. Only suggesting 50p per poppy. I didn't bother to count, I just gave all the change I had. Even if you don't agree with war. It's not how much you give; it's what has been given and what so many have given that allows us the freedom we presently have.
  12. Forecast for a frost here but just been out putting some plants in greenhouse and it's not got that characteristic pre chill.
  13. +1 on the use of Aspen too. It'll be nicer to use and in the long run for a very occasional user, it'll work out cheaper, As you won't have to empty out unused fuel after each use, (not knowing when you'll need it next). And you'll not be needing to pre-mix 2-stroke every time there's a need for a chainsaw.
  14. Well it saves having to water the garden. But if it freezes, I'll have to start wrapping some plants.
  15. Echo CS-370ES or CS-420ES Husqvarna 135 or 435 Stihl MS181 or MS211
  16. Still mild, hardly any wind but have had the comfort of rain all day. Puddles everywhere I look.
  17. At least 16-24 between coats. If it'll be exposed to outdoor conditions, you'll need at least three coat. Rub it back between coats be all means but not with wire wool. If any bits break of, they can become embedded and you'll have to take the surface down a layer to remove them.
  18. I use an old style Husqvarna combi. Came with two spouts and three caps. One spout is the auto shut-off type, (like a reversed snorkel) and the other is a straight pourer for oil. Just have to be sure the spouts are screwed on squarely, as they leak if not put on plumb.
  19. Mild and murky, not a breath of wind. All saints night slipped by almost unnoticed.
  20. Not as evil as blackthorn but just as tough and murder to prune or remove, is quince.
  21. Now I know the 3120XP and MS880 would be better for milling but would the 395 be suitable for milling. Next question. Which is best for milling, the 3120XP or MS880? I've used MS880 for milling in the past but what do people think of the Husky?
  22. Apple Ducking
  23. Blackthorn left in the wound is worth seeing to and off to the doc if it doesn't get better in a few days. Hawthorn on the other hand or even in the same hand; I personally just live with it. Worked a hawthorn hedge begining this week and got a fare few thorns go through gloves and sleeves. Any that were left in at the end of each day, got washed and extracted with tweezers. The bits that wouldn't come out or felt like they hadn't, I just lived with. There's visual signs of grazes & puncture wounds galore, from fingertips to near elbows. But only one is still a little tend now. The slight swelling is gone and it's only when I grip things I even notice it. In most cases, just learn to live with pain now and then. It'll only be for a short while. But if the wound/s give you grief for longer than you feel comfortable with, (if that's the appropriate phrase) get yourself off to the doc. If any wounds get worse rather than better in proceeding days, get yourself off to the doc. If the pain gets worse rather than easing, get yourself off to the doc.
  24. Exactly the opposite to MPs & the PM then.
  25. Yesterday was mild, overcast but fine. Today the hedging will be damp, as the fell tops are swathed in low cloud.
