  1. I would imagine most commercially sold cordwood( attic loads) come from estates and forestry commission jobs- using forwarders to take to road( track) side-, where there usually is space to leave it sitting for a year before selling the artic loads to hungry cord wood buyers. A nessesary double handling. But would agree buying cord now for this season seems a little late I would like know how Jon processes his big butts.....
  2. We used to have a big gasgoine (spelling?) slurry tank- 12m dia, 5 or 4 m high- It was coming to the end of its life, and sprung a leak- the mend was big stack of bricks and a toilet plunger over the hole- Stayed like it for a few months whilst I emptied the tank
  3. Hows that area compare to haytor?
  4. I was wondering if this is a problem with dry wood chips- ie 30% moisture? Or is mainly just green chippings?
  5. I spent a few days burning pine trees that self set on the Heath, the fire was being loaded by tractor, so fairly big. Surprised to see two sweaty and p-ed off fireman who had had to trek a bout a mile over the Heath searching for the fire. I politely explained what I was doing, and the precautions I have taken to prevent it getting out of control...( basically saying "look, I know what am doing") 5 days later I met the same firemen, as they were kindly putting out about 4 acres of Heath, that my fire had burnt... (Got a proper bollocking then) ( in my defence the fire did travel underground a fair distance before emerging out)
  6. I am a farmer, that also does- forestry work, logs sales, sub contractor( trailer bashing), and trying to get into ground maintence.
  7. One ordered but even then strimmers will still be needed.
  8. A few days spent strimming. We have strimmed past approx. 50,000 panels. A bit bored of the sight of them now....
  9. It's ok, you will soon get ground clearance jobs for new fracking wells,
  10. suppose i better hunt out fire beaters. who ever controls/manages canford heath would benefit from fire breaks. (time for sarcasm)- little fluffy animals and slimey things can cross firebreaks and some actually like the bare soil.... edit- thats not actually sarcastic, its ture, but some pplo seem everso scared of upsetting a tiny bit of habitat... and the result means the habitat gets burnt...
  11. Just deleted a long rant , cuz Internet forums are not the best place for these sort of discussions....... I farm, and I think I am pro gm.
  12. Erhm, not sure on language use.., "(The brown stuff) happens"
  13. I have received a few leads today, which will hopefully come to something. Thanks to all. Rob

  15. Dear Stihl Your new online policy doesn't bother me in the slightest. When i do my shopping for replacements parts, consumables and ppe, online and your products don't appear- i'll just buy another brand. I couldn't care less Rob
  16. In one of my feilds in the purbecks, Dorset. No saving it, but we will be sure to replant more to replace it.
  17. I guess one gust was stronger than the rest. A great shame.
  18. I was asked by a customer about their chimney. ( I am not their sole supplier of logs) Apparently, the sweep says there's a lot of crud coming out of their chimney every year, on the annual sweeping. The sweep then left some sort if white powered to help clean the chimney. The customer asked me, if I knew any other methods of keeping it cleaner? I was a little on the hop, trying to work out if I could have supplied damp load, but I am fairly certain I haven't. I can't comment on the other supplier of logs. So is there anything ppl can do to keep a brick open fireplace, chimney cleaner?
  19. I think most chip for the drax plants will come from Canada, as they can source constant supply.
  20. on the ebay listing for logs its says in the discription part Item specifics Condition: New: A brand-new, unused, unopened and undamaged item in original retail packaging (where packaging is ... well thats lucky then....... (hopefully i am not the one being stupid here)
  21. Should there be a warning that they get hot, went placed on a fire, and may cause injury.

  23. not the same tractor- which is a shame cuz the first one i bought was the best- 6310 john deere. But i guess thats always the way
