  1. When I was in your shoes I bought a pair of the stihl economy type a strides, they have served me well and now get worn for my own firewood work or when on the ground in rough brush. Light comfy cheap, job jobbed! The englebert ones get a good write up on here and I think they are a bit cheaper. Chris
  2. Local fabricator? I have a tame fabricator who regularly gets given a photo and asked when can I have six of them as I need them yesterday. When my truck pulls in his yard I think another piece of his soul dies.
  3. Have a pair of hi viz ones and they're comfy, especially that soft lining when on spikes. My pfanner's I use when hi viz not required but they will be getting replaced with more breath flex.
  4. As I have posted before, I swear by echo and am changing over to their kit as items need replacing. Not needed any spares, but the ones I've ordered break bands air filters etc have taken three days to get to my local dealer. I'm in the habit of having redundancy in my tools, in that if one topper breaks I have a spare same for ground saws etc. if you don't have that luxury three days could be an issue. I am in South Yorkshire so maybe more remote places could be an issue. Oh yeah 620, had it two days and love it. 560xp for sale if anyone wants it?
  5. 620sx just arrived and getting put to work on Saturday. Slowly replacing my husqvarna kit with echo. I will be keeping the ms460 and getting a 661. I think big stuff is stihl territory.
  6. Ref price NFG is on the money, as for parts my local dealer can have filters etc in the next day. But as has been said I've not needed any yet and been running hedge cutter, top handle and cs420es for a year or two with not one spare part needed.
  7. I will post a review and yes my experience of echo kit is that it takes a minute or so to warm up before the revs pick up quickly. Not an issue if you know and just start the saw whilst you put your harness on or faff about getting wedges and a hammer. It is my brand of choice. So next stop a bear cat chipper maybe?
  8. After, two years of the 560xp I have done it and ordered the 620sx I kept promising myself. Why you ask? The 560 has done the following; 1. Vibrated bolts out at random. Despite torquing everything I could see when I remembered. 2. How do you blow out the air filter with out blowing dust into it? You need more patience than I. 3. It eats starter pawls and that white plastic bit. 4. It won't start warm, unpredictably and at random, without throwing it whilst holding full throttle on. 5. It occasionally breaks a brake band out of badness. But I still love it, so it will stay on the shelf full of aspen for days when I have time for it's tantrums. Nearly all my two stroke kit is now echo.
  9. I think mine may be a bit lardy; 1. Treehog harness 2. Silver bull bag with Israeli bandage in the bottom and a endless sling and crab. 3. 5 m split tail on a cut away and rope grab with a crab at the other end. Unused split tail is stuffed in the bull bag and is kept in with a Prussic on a crab just above the bag. 4. Rope in vt and hitch climber. 5. Usually one or two spare crabs. 6. Silky 7. And top handle with a caritool Could be less!
  10. Arborwear, have ladies cut trousers. My blokes cut ones are great and they seem bloody hard wearing. Mine are on for everything unless a saw is involved.
  11. Have you tried woodnet? I'm a tree surgeon in South Yorkshire and a couple of turners and part time furniture makers local to me are in my list of timber customers and I found them on there. Or find out who does your local authority work and have a chat with them, they will probably have cherry burrs and many other things going for firewood because they don't have time to sort the timber and find buyers for small quantities.
  12. I've found the trousers you're wearing makes a big difference, my pfanner's with the mesh lining are a bugger on the shins, my arbor techs are great with the soft cotton or whatever lining. I'm using Buckinghams with leather pads. As has been said the boots make a difference also. My meindl wood walkers all day in spikes not ideal pfanner tirols massive difference and make it a pleasure.
  13. Fixing/servicing kit, sharpening chain, splitting logs and when I have all that done I do a bit of tree surgery. For work I got to the pub walk the dogs or go home and fix the broken stuff in the house.
  14. Have you put this in the jobs thread with a decent rate as its Sunday, I'm sure somebody will snap your hand off.
  15. I use a couple of small plastic felling wedges and hammer them behind ivy to lift lumps of it off the trunk then cut through with the chainsaw.
  16. I have a maul which has a hardened rear face as it's intended as a hammer face, all my others are mild steel rear faces so can be hit. I try and avoid it and keep them well dressed with the grinder. I once bought a cheaper maul without any warning stickers so I used the rear face as a hammer to smash some concrete, it didn't deform therefore it had a hardened rear face. Maybe the same issue hear. Never hit. Hardened steel together, hardened against mild no problem if you keep it dressed.
  17. If I need a one off tool for heavy use I buy britool but am being won over by sealey an American brand that make great quality and reasonably priced tools. Both brands sell individually or as sets and I would recommend them both. I know sealey do metric and imperial but not sure if they also do AF. Despite being a tool snob I do have a halfords socket and spanner set in the van for "on the job maintenance" and despite the ratchets not being top quality if hasn't let me down.
  18. Echo cs420 es. First pull choke third pull running every time. It's a weedy wee thing but it's so reliable.......... Must buy more echo kit
  19. May have avoided the brash drag too much and dropped a lump of an ash re-pollard on my cs100 and broken the red part on the safety stop button. Had a look online and can't see if it's a specific one. Anybody know? I would hate to buy one and then fine the mounting holes or wiring is different. Electronics is not my strong point. Thanks for any help, chris
  20. Can't tell you which echo to buy, but if echo make something which fits what I need I buy it. it's is after buying a little cs420 es two years ago, brilliant and has never put a foot wrong. I now have brush cutter, hedge cutter and their small top handle. When any of the other saws or kit needs replacing it will be echo unless husqvarna or stihl match their reliability.
  21. Been there mate, my good lady has now mandated one day a week of. A little paperwork or kit maintenance is allowed but only for an hour or so. It's bloody worked. Good diet is one thing but a little down time is essential.
  22. Anybody? I pay well, I don't expect ludicrous amounts of work from a human being and occasionally through in breakfast and or lunch. Come on who wants a contact for a bit of work? Contact; Mobile; 07925319595 email; [email protected] or pm on here
  23. I am looking for climbers looking for the odd days sub contracting, CS 30, 31, 38, 39 are essential and a driving licence B+E is desirable. Rate is negotiable based on experience. We do mainly domestic work with some commercial and are based out of dn12 and operate within 50 miles. Although we do some work nationally involving nights away. Call or text; 07925319595
  24. Thanks for the numbers think I am sorted with disposal of logs and chip but any overspill will be going to one of the two places provided above. Thanks again, have a good weekend all.
