  1. My mate who I see every six months as he does my loler changed to these chains on everything and invested in the green grit wheel for his bench chain sharpening grinder. He swears by them. Keep meaning to ask if he still buys the cheapest chain possible for stump cutting!
  2. If cutting for production it preserves the timber and allows you to control when it falls. For smallish leaners where timber quality isn't an issue and I am in a safe position I bore cut the hinge and cut straight out of the back sometimes. The dog tooth also means the hinge acts properly rather than being shock loaded and affected by a barber chair allowing gravity, shake, helical twist etc to control the fell rather than your cuts.
  3. I have had the misfortune of spending a day using a 3120 and it was a bit overkill, and it was a bloody pain, plus do they like a drink! Unless you have plenty of work requiring something that big I'd avoid, found my 661 big enough for everything. Find an echo dealer nearby you won't look back. Oh and check the brake band I sent, concerned I may have sent the wrong one! If I have let me know and I will either find the correct one and send it or you can buy the correct one from your local dealer and I will pay for it and you post the one I sent back to me. Hope that seems fair.
  4. Have a cs100 and it's been great and had some use in the last two years, but given this thread and others I'm glad I've gone the forst route with the new tracked machine which is on order.
  5. Glad you like the 560 flatyre, also pleased I had the collection of spares to send with it, hope it's making you money mate. The 620sx which replaced it has been great bar a brake handle screw working lose, given it a stern talking to with locktite and it seems to have learned it's lesson. I have only ever owned new saws and find the only stuff which doesn't break little annoying things or have starting issues are built by echo or are the bigger stihls my 460 and 661 are cracking machines.
  6. I've had a cs100 for two years and it's done a power of work, it's done some fairly hefty takedowns as well, lots of sending at times. But with a sympathetic user who listens to the engine note it can push through some volume. Now a tr6 is joining us as like others have said the cs100 may be good but it is a bottleneck at times. If you go the cs100 route then a decent trailer and something which can tow 3500kg is a must to cart away the timber which is oversize, I bought this setup by accident and am grateful I did. Replace the belts aswell straight away or buy spares and carry them as the original factory ones mine came with were utter garbage!
  7. Israeli and a cat tourniquet in a leg pocket or the man bag on the back of my harness. I feel you want stuff to stem massive bleeds any trivia like gloves and plasters can be done when you get on the ground if you kiss yourself with a silky etc. I then have two kits in the van one in a orange peli case with more trauma kit and a Tupperware with plasters, eyewash, painkillers and the like. However I have a military background so do go for overkill on first aid kit. As in the orange peli case goes on top of a a4 write in the rain folder containing the risk assessment with all the necessary location info etc. Am I paranoid?
  8. The question is what does it owe you and what do you really want for it? I may be interested, pm me with your asking price mate. How old is it? Cheers, Chris
  9. I like many sympathise with the idea of and those who do steal out of necessity and despise those who see theft as a career option. However the hypocrite in me would not wait to establish which type of thief someone I caught stealing form me was before giving my best shot at halting them, probably very violently.
  10. Large silver bull harness bag. Lanyard nice and tidy, if held in with a Prussic and crab attached to the bag. Also always has first aid kit, sling and crab and a pair of gloves (as I hate wearing them unless I really have to) in it. Now have a nice clean profile harness and everything I want just an arm twist away! Downside is it has been called a man bag! No lads it's practical........oh wait
  11. I've had the th5000 for three years and think they are great. Cheap, comfy and once adjusted to you the buckles don't work loose that quickly maybe once a week I readjust a buckle. Only gripe with it is quick release clips, that is the only reason I am debating it's replacement, which i think will be a treemotion.
  12. Nearly ordered spares from them once for my cs 100. When I enquired if I got to keep the flying carpet being used to deliver the six oil filters and set of belts the chap on the phone got the hump. They haven't mithered me since
  13. I know you said dolmar 420 but I have the echo 420es and it's a great bit of kit, goes on every job always starts very easy and is a pleasure to use. Mines on a 15 but a 13 would probably suit it better, struggles a bit buried in timber but is punchy for it's size. As with most echo kit goes far better once it's had a few litres put through it and is given twenty seconds from being started cold to warm up each morning.
  14. I have a couple of pairs of boots, pfanner air tirols for felling days and when spiking and a pair of wood walkers for any climbing without spikes. I am tempted to replace the current wood walkers with a pair of haix protector pros or air streams. I find one boot does not fit all tasks. Driving in the pfanner's is fun! They are a but like wearing what I imagine calipers feel like.
  15. As above regards finance, I'm just buying my first proper chipper and it's the businesses first finance package and after the deposit a good chunk off monthly payments is getting put in an is a marked chipper! If I don't touch it once it's paid off in two years then that's the start on another bit of kit. I'd be terrified if I didn't have that insurance in the bank to pay the finance. As others have said do your own thing do it well and ignore those who say you can't or shouldn't, this with stands your plan being legal and not liable to kill you.
  16. That's a wonderous machine! If you add one to the fleet scraggy let us know how you get on. I need a second vehicle, I was going for a 7.5t for the chip capacity but with one of these I will enjoy the chip run!
  17. I sell green in spring and early summer and this is through educating customers on the phone. I'm fortunate though and my log sales are a nice add on to my tree surgery operations. I take the view that I sell at a competitive but comparable price to the big boys and if I don't sell it I will build a big pile and enjoy watching it burn rather than give it away. I'd rather not undercut those whose business this is.
  18. I love my 620sx easily better than than the 560xp it replaced, I see what people mean about a mini 460. The only reason my 460 still gets so much use is spud has had a good play with it, my subbie groundie loves my 460. He certainly gets through a lot of fuel with it anyway!

    3to1

Work out the load on the Prussic, then work out what strength Prussic cord you need given bending the cord to tie the hitch reduces it's strength. Once you know what cord you need then go for a rope at least two mm thicker than the cord and make sure that rope is stronger than the max load at the first pulley from the load. That pulley will face at least double the force of the weight of the load depending on your system setup. Clear as mud?
  20. Nice one Gray, I reckon your rb44 will make short work of my ranger. Just to help you out though if the back ends high and looks empty it's very light and skittish a little nudge will spin it. Saves damaging your vehicle!
  21. It was with two blokes in head to foot hi viz and no signs or phone numbers on the kit but it all looked brand new. You may see my orange ranger supercab tipper about your area, don't worry I'm not working in your area I'm just serving my last few months in the army. Im one of those blokes you hate who gets qualified and sets up on his own on leaving the forces!
  22. Th varitrack would be interesting but money would be my issue as I'm keeping the cs100, which with a bit of determination can be got most places. Tomorrow it's going down some steps on a lowering bollard to protect me the bloke who will be steering and keeping it upright from underneath!
  23. Gray, I really want the tr8 so avoiding all spending between now and April and taking any work I can find even out Sundays for the next three weeks and I will see where I stand come April. Did I see your tracked forst at the the petrol station in Colburn at about 0630 on Monday or Tuesday? It was on a trailer behind a black pickup.
