  1. Slight change of plan, the job is On my way! confirmed for Monday the 3rd and Tuesday the 4th. As stated will be working in cr7 any help greatly appreciated. Thanks
  2. As per the title, I need somewhere to dump chip Wednesday and Thursday next week (5th and 6th aug). If anyone can help me out that would be much appreciated, there will also be a load or two of ash logs. Willing to pay in beer or a few beer tokens. Thanks, Chris
  3. I have a ford ranger super cab with a tipping chip box, I also pull a brian james 10x6 with a cs100 in it. The chip box needs emptying two or three times a day but you can move a decent amount of chip and then put a good quantity of logs in the trailer. The plus for me is the tools are secured in the alarmed cab and not on the back. Works for me, I would only change for a 7.5t tipper and a big 8/9 inch chipper.
  4. It's on, burning some beech which is the remains of last winters stack outside the door. Beech burns like coal I love it.
  5. Echo cs-550? I've been buying echo for everything recently, does what's asked without any fuss and is built to last, on top you get two years commercial warranty. On the downside none if the kit is quite as fast or light as comparative stihl or husqvarna kit. My go to tools are all echo unless the don't make it I.e. 660 size saws.
  6. I have always gone for the big breakfast and really enjoy it, I could eat curry at 5am no bother any day. But a few months ago when I had more work than I could handle I started skipping lunch in favour of ploughing on and with my mantra of you "ain't sweating you ain't working!" that lack of fuel really shows, I started getting the shakes by three! I now enforce a stop for lunch and what do you know? I'm more productive!
  7. Lad! He may deserve a Darwin Award but didn't many of the mad inventors who have changed how we live done so at massive personal risk. For those that survive.... Oh wait we already mastered flight so no need..... He was just being a lad!
  8. Does it not come under East Riding? I've done work at bubwith not too far away and dealt direct with East Riding.
  9. I get an itchy rash on my arms from conifer, so I know wear the chainsaw protective sleeves when working on that and spiky stuff. Saves the arms from scratches and stops me scratching like a ticking junkie in front of customers!
  10. Read through this thread and not sure where I stand overall, which is hypocritical as I use my top handles on the ground! Sometimes that small top handle saw where you can do a nice tidy cut is so much better for the tree if it's staying than a rear handle which just won't fit. My 280tes on an 8 inch bar is easier to manoeuvre in tight spaces and avoid cutting what is staying than a silky. I will continue to judge each situation and continue.
  11. As per the title I have been asked for a formal quote for a job which I am told is mine subject to tpo removal application being successful and this formal quote. Any one able to point me in the direction of the tools on ms word which make letterheads? I'm thinking create a table and populate it but surely there is an easier way? Or does any incredibly generous soul wish to email me a copy of there's for me to plagiarise? Thanks, Chris
  12. I have a super cab ranger converted to a tipper and mines through nfu. They are reasonable and gave loads of cover for trailers and plant on the back. I changed my rear leaf springs to more heavy duty ones as the originals were knackered. I'd wait until they are shot and upgrade then, but that's just me.
  13. Sorbus international sell some flimsy looking mesh goggles for about fifteen quid. I got sick of visors breaking and dust blowing around them. They have lasted well and only now after three months are they showing wear around the nose. Downsides; red ring around the eyes from the rubber seal for an hour after wearing, reduce light more than visors so not good in low light, band can slip down over the ears under your ear defenders and end up rubbing your ears. Other than that I think they're bloody brilliant and won't be using anything else until they stop selling them.
  14. I feel for you subby climbers, I have set myself up whilst in paye employment. As such I have had the money to build up a good compact kit and am now picking up clients with recurring work. In addition I am getting a little work from other companies. Making the jump without that salary would be bloody hard work!
  15. Thetford forest? Or stanta military training area in the forest. Speak to the commission and find and area not to be felled in the near future. Even with a ten figure grid in some of those areas it would be a pig to find.
  16. Tried a black widow school boy catapult? 15 quid from the local shooting shop and does the job nicely. Also packs in the climbing bag. Can also be used to fire a bouncy ball at the vicinity of the groundie having a crafty fag and text when he thinks you can't see him. Obviously that is hugely unprofessional and I would never do it.
  17. Have you googled local HGV repair centres? I use Dobbie Wyatt in Wiltshire who specialise in bulker trailer repair and tarp roller covers. Heavy duty, knowledgable and reasonably priced. Must be someone up your way given the opencast sites and quarries dotted about.
  18. When i have spare days without jobs booked in I buy timber in from a company local to me for forty pounds for my ranger tipper and 10x5 high sided trailer full. Probably slightly over two ton, species and season dependent. Need to build more sheds now to store it all, unless anyone wants a shed or two loads of seasoned hardwood?
  19. We call them oak apples in my part of Yorkshire. They are wasp larvae Inside, I believe.
  20. The tip I have most appreciated was £1 from an old lady. From the chats during the job we'd realised she lived in the 70's where money was concerned, so in her head shed given us a bloody good amount of money. I dealt with her grandson for the job money, I think the old girl would have died if she had known the cost. We enjoyed the bag of chips very very much.
  21. I find 3/8 p the hardest chain size to sharpen, when you have done a tooth get on eye level with the curve of the tooth and check you have a curve and not a straight tooth. I find it so easy, and I use stihl file guides, to file the tooth straight. Especially when tired and cold.
  22. Hi Jon, I use aspen in my low consumption machines that can sit for a while with the same fuel. Can't justify the expense for the saws though at five litres every one or two days, that would be nearly 100 a week on fuel just for the saws.
  23. He's away until Saturday so he will probably text Saturday. No worries glad to help
