  1. And the winner is forst! Thanks for all the help arb talkers and the new machine will be getting ordered in April. I will post pic of the machine at work once I have it.
  2. Ms460 old! It's my most reliable and favourite saw, admittedly spud has worked his magic on it. Just gutted I have a 661 as I delayed my purchase until the last 660s had gone! You don't need to buy an old saw to spend time working on them just buy a new husky!
  3. Looks alive but ivy can hide horrors! Is the job worth a mewp? If the job can't justify a mewp then srt, bit of a shame there's nothing nearby to climb and anchor in and drop onto it.
  4. Nearly all my saws are echo, they are great. I've said it on here before but if echo make something suitable which I need I buy it.
  5. I bought an ex demo cs100 from Cambrian, they always seem to have a ex demo cs100 for sale or if you leave your number they will have one within 3 months. Mine seemed almost brand new so can't have been demoed that much. Worth giving them a try as I paid 4400 for a electric start 18hp cs100, which may as well have been brand new.
  6. Hi mate, I use these guys; Eazzee.co.uk - Suppliers of corporate clothing, workwear, personal protective equipment and much more! Good selection of stuff in their catalogue and they will embroider or transfer stuff you send to them also. Just had a delivery of long sleeve shirts, sweaters and fleeces today.
  7. Thanks guys you have given me a lot to think about, global are only in Newark and the plan is to twin this purchase with a new truck 7.5t or bigger. So I think it's demo time! I really like buying the simple but odd ball bit of kit that really does the job but is overlooked by most. How does tp stand up to not having a dealer network? My understanding is they are only available from one place in Scotland. Engines are engines so those spares will be easily sourced from one of the local farm or machinery dealers it's the tp specific stuff that would concern me. Cheers, Chris
  8. I think that a quadchip will be coming my way. Unless someone throws a proper spanner in the works.
  9. Heard that about tp. Never used one though! Opinion based on word of mouth and the companies website.
  10. Did you find changing the belts on the 160 a pain? Apparently you have to remove the fuel tank. Used them a lot and really like them especially the turntable.
  11. In the army we had to stop putting wheels on the bonnet as when off road the weight of the wheel would bend or flex the bonnet into the injector lines. Squaddies can break anything!
  12. Only ever used one jensen and it was not impressive. Granted it was the spare chipper that we borrowed from the main contractor when ours broke.
  13. Right I need an upgrade to my cs100. It's now the bottleneck in productivity, but will be getting kept for the jobs it suits. My requirements; 1. Easy to maintain. 2. Min 6 inch capacity. 3. 30k ish upper budget. My shortlist; Quadchip 160. Timberwolf 190 tracked. Bandit 90xp TP 175 vario spout. So which would you have and why? Which would you avoid and why? Thanks, I realise they are different capabilities. Ideally it would be nine inch tracked turntable, but for 30k that ain't going to happen. My work load is mostly domestic but I do some work on hedgerows in fields where tracked would be useful.
  14. I guess about 30cm not including the bit need to make a loop in the end. Buy a metre put a scaffold not on one end tie the hitch with the live end and see how much you need to cut off after putting a scaffold on the other end? Personal preference comes into, amount of cross overs, rope diameter and hitch cord diameter.
  15. I have a kayak cag for climbing in proper rain. You do sweat in it so tend to get up to my anchor point then get sent up after the biggest section of pulling is done. Other than that soft shell or three t shirts and change every break.
  16. My 540 started playing up restarting when warm, it took the spark arrester out and it seems to have fixed it for a year. I am however an echo convert and everything is slowly getting replaced with that stuff. The farty exhaust note of the 420es never fails to make me smile! I'm such a child.
  17. How thick are the discs? When I've had to do this I've gone for biggest saw I have with a bar just long enough to cut straight through. Don't mean to patronise but nice evenly sharpened chain and well dressed bar for lovely straight cuts. I've done some banana cutting as i have learnt.
  18. I use a th5000. Have no issues with it at all, I've had it two years and it's going to be replaced with the same.
  19. I have a 14 and a twelve for mine, it lives on the twelve. I have no patience so like to cut fast so am quite happy to have a bigger saw sent up early on dismantles. But it is definetly better balanced on a 14. My groundie did replace the 540 on a 12 with the echo 420 chipper saw on a 15. He has not been forgiven!
  20. A few years ago got an empty case from a blank 5.56 round through a land rover tyre butt end first.
  21. Whatever you do don't buy a lug all. I have one and it lives in the truck it takes up little space but is quite weak and a pain to release or let out when under tension. I'm surprised they are ce marked it would be very easy to loose a finger when letting it out. That said I will persevere with it until it's paid for itself.
  22. A one man band doesn't mean you have to work alone, I am a sole trader but regularly get in labourers or subbie climbers. It's a challenge at times but I just about make it work.
  23.

    <p>Hi Douglas,</p>

  24. Ty, instead of reversing the drum with a stick if you take the pulley cover off there is hole in the end of the drive shaft. I have a large posi drive screwdriver under the drivers seat for when it gets jammed to turn it with. Also with the cover off that little safety button underneath is engaged so it can't start whilst you're in there.
