  1. Evening all, I am working on kings road Bradford on Saturday the 9th may and need to dump a couple of loads of Leylandi chip nearby. There will also be a good load of Leylandi logs. Any help from the collective of arbtalk greatly appreciated. In return I can offer a free log and chip site in mexborough South Yorkshire.
  2. Right five litres of super on the way from amazon. Nothing conclusive explaining the benefits and given a manufacturer would post information meaning you bought their premium product everywhere if it was available, I think super will do me and my kit just fine.
  3. I know you's were specific about saw type but I have an echo 280 tes. From using my friends 193 it's a little lighter and got just as much guts. It's my second saw and runs an 8inch bar and chain, despite being bought as my second top handle it does two thirds plus of the work as it's capable, light and the ergonomics are very good. The bar seems well made also. I've thrown my spanner in the works, time to go.
  4. I bought a litre of hp ultra two weeks ago and had no problems apart from the price! I can buy five litre of hp super for the price of one and a half litres of hp ultra. I now need to buy some oil and being a Yorkshire man the super price of hp super is tempting. Can anyone point me in the direction of some literature comparing the two and weighing up the benefits? If the ultra is far superior i will stretch my short arms and buy it if not then super here I come. I am very careful with fuel and oil and have never had a seize, I really want to continue that way.
  5. It's got what looks like a brake handle but it connects to nothing and there is not a band or housing for one around the clutch. Oh well, I will give it him back to go on his shelf in the shed.
  6. Hi all, A friend of mine asked me to look at his chainsaw and give it a service. I was in for a surprise when he arrived with a decent sized but clearly old husqvarna, I have identified it as a 160s ( I could be wrong) . Having had a poke around it, I spoke to him and said it needs a few parts not many but it doesn't have a brake so would he please buy a small modern homeowner machine or get me to do his cutting. He agreed with me and I said I'd ask if it's worth anything to help finance his new machine. Any thoughts?
  7. Lidl stuff is good at 5 quid for 5l and it's bloody strong, neat it's good to minus forty! So 20l dilution and you still got -5 covered. I've used it for years.
  8. I bought one of the treehog harnesses, cheap and not very rigid, I didn't expect a lot but I love it. So flexible it moves with you and if you spend time setting it up for you, when you're on a flip line and spikes it's really comfortable and doesn't give you the bruised hips that long hours on a flip line can cause.
  9. My favourite brand at the moment is echo, for no nonsense get the job done tools. They have less dealers than the big two and parts can be a little slow if you're used to next day, but stihl have been slow recently. Echo 620sx would be my choice in your shoes.

    Pay

Second the above, however I'd expect you to ask for 160 day rate. I don't deal with full time paye so don't know what that guarantee of income deducts from day rate.
  11. They have their place, but not ideal for target pruning a lot of the time as getting the angle can be awkward or impossible. I have one though and rate it.
  12. I do and I have, chris day tree services will also give you a like.
  13. The thing is these skills are learnt gradually, or absorbed when around the need for them. If you are never around the need and don't understand basic mechanics it would be easy to become very stuck unnecessarily even if you are very intelligent. For instance trying to pump mud when it's too thick, you add water..... But to most that would make the mud/water in the wrong place a bigger problem and not be the solution. Even though I think that sometimes I have to laugh.
  14. Inbox full can't pm you about your need of a climber

    Ego

If you work for someone else it can be their way or the highway, then it's decision time. I am not hugely experienced and on my jobs welcome suggestions, which I may choose to ignore but I will explain why. When I work for others I like to question their methods to learn and have mine challenged or discounted with reasons why. My only sticking point is when someone or me questions safety and then a bit more explanation is required.
  16. Ditto, wish I'd learnt to climb from school instead of wasting my time with a levels as I am not academic. Then I joined the army and met the good lady as a result of performing poorly at a levels, so on balance would change nowt!
  17. Wish I was closer I would snap your hand of, if you just need the climbing element maybe post in the jobs forum and ask for a climber for one day.
  18. Sorry for the hijack! That's what I thought but just to change the clutch 230 but to switch to a solid flywheel 530, that's parts only for both. The only advantage I can see with solid flywheel is that you can ride the clutch and cause less damage, I don't ride the clutch so not an issue for me. But I can't find out if you're regularly towing at the vehicles legal capacity which one will last longer and is the solid one that much stronger that it works out cheaper in the long term.
  19. My 58 plate ranger plus cab tipper with a 2.5 tdci does thirty two on a run empty when religiously doing 56 ish. Towing full loaded it's down to 18 to 20. Considering getting an economy remap done on it. The clutch has just gone on it, stick with dial mass or put a solid flywheel on, what to do?
  20. I have had stihl bib and brace and I found that because they dont seal at the waist like normal trousers for anything but cutting logs they get full of shavings. I also have the stihl cheapo type a they are hard wearing and cheap, the cut of the pockets is not great as they fill with shavings. I will buy the cheap stihl trousers again. I use the sip type c trousers, the basic ones, I think they're great. You can spend hundreds on a pair of trousers and ruin them in one barbed wire fence.
  21. Who's been watching me work? I will charge for the lesson delivered. Anyone noticed the cut stem about two metre up in the air on the left of the photo a little up from the level of the guys right flip flop. I thought it was the end of a cut limb but it looks wrong I reckon it's a cut stem. How did he get it up there?
  22. Posted on my facebook page to Sheffield, the high peak, Derbyshire and South yorks. If I here anything I will let you know. Let's get it posted everyone and get a big audience. Chris
  23. Mr idiot sir, I like how your mind works..... Apart from acid bath in the cellar surely?
  24. I think you are entitled to education up to age 18 but if you left at 16 and didn't use this allowance then I think on certain courses or colleges you can claim this. Don't ask me for any more detail it's just something in the back of my mind from a conversation I had a while back, maybe worth investigating.
