1. Thanks all. Not sure if house or tree is older. What is heave? Don't think I have come accross this term.
2. Affordable access in Romsey 01794 521177.
3. A customer of mine has a reasonably mature holm oak situated approx. 8-10ft from his house. He fears that if the tree is felled, the rotting roots may cause subsidence. Can anyone tell me what the likelihood of this is? Thanks in advance
4. If you do decide to go to college to study forestry and you're serious about it, then Newton Rigg College in Cumbria is the place to go. If it is arboriculture that you wish to study, then Merrist Wood is the place. Both highly regarded in their industry Good luck
5.

Hello James. you sent me a friend request. I think that this may have been by mistake unless we have met and I don't remember, in which case I do apologise. Please enlighten?

Regards, marc

Apologies in the delay of reply

6. It is handy to have your chipper dealer reasonably local (not essential), just something to think about. Schliesing (Overland @ Basingstoke), Jenson (Redwood @ nr Stockbridge) and TP (Osborne's @ Romsey) are all fairly local to you.
7. Stihl could get developing a topper saw now to rival the 540 and still have it out ahead of them!
8. Looks like you could do a good scorpian Paul!
9. I reckon 2 saws is a touch shy to cover everything. If I had to chose 2 saws then, 020t and a 560 and turn down any larger jobs.
10. £22-25 per hour for that sort of work with basic tools for me. Everyone will have different views on this, but find a price that you and customer are happy with. Do not go in too cheap though mate, tools, insurance, fuel etc don't fall out the sky.
11. Defo tent for me eggs. I'd certainly be interested to see some other climbing styles.
12. I can't believe that they have asked the landowner to sort out. That is completely irresponsible on their behalf and should be organising and carrying out the work themselves. If sh'# hits fan, you could end up in a whole world of trouble, especially if insurance don't pay out.
13. Completely agree with you there Rich Rule. I find when anchored to a branch the pull of the rope is more comfortable and even giving a more comfortable work position, if that makes sense.
14. You need not unclip your topper saw as the clip that attaches to your strop is designed to break away at around 100kg of force. Of course a ground saw is usually attached directly to the handle. I have seen clips for sale to attach ground saw to strop. As has been said, line tp and bottom cuts up exactly if you fear this happening. I think it has happened to most of us. I was using a 254 and this happend to me, ripped the saw handle from the saw!
15. I had a toy chainsaw guard of honour at my wedding, see if you can get it sorted mate
16. Is that a canon EOS 400d Paul? I have one and is a really nice camera, takes real good quality pics. Have always liked Canon cameras. My 088 is pretty thirsty Jon, maybe they have made the 880 a little more economical.
17. if you dont want to put it in your washing machine, take it down the launderette
18. Been using a grillon for about ten years though it is expensive at £80. You can get the art positioner for similar money and although never used it, I think would work better
19. Here here, and with the tractor and loader it will be effortless.
20. Of course skyhck, my mistake. It was the £77k figure in my head, but knew that the cut off threshold was quite low. That is good news that they have risen it to £250k benedmonds, I can save a small fortune on that scheme. You still shouldn't include your VAT bill as an overhead though, because it isn't, you simply add it to your invoice and the client pays it.
21. How on earth can you include the vat payments to your running costs, they have nothing to do with it. When you say 'fixed rate scheme', is that the 'flat rate scheme'? If so, my understanding was that you only qualified for this sscheme if your turnover was less than about £80k ish, in which case your running costs alone put you bang on that. I could not understand why your running costs where so high unless you were running big kit such as mulchers, tree bunchers etc. Remove the vat and that will give you your running costs.
22. Alot of people recommending the husky 550 and 560, a very vry fine saw but probably overkill for yourself. I think a semi pro saw would be more suitable such as the husky rancher range. Also for the sake of £80 it may be worth while taking the cs 30 and 31 assessment.
