  1. I climbed with 3 strand when I first started, using both ends of my rope. The tangles that used to get into! Multiplait seemed a godsend after that
  2. That bandit/mog set up is beautiful globalnewark, what with the winch aswell. Shame it sticks out the front so much.
  3. my folks had one when I was a kid. Seem to remember getting good heat and draw from it, though the front glass was near on impossible to keep clean.
  4. Short gaffs are more suited to the trees in this country 95% of the time and the other 5% I just get by with them. Unless your sectioning a lot of big pines or willies i'd certainly recommend the short ones.
  5. I've not seen the new surface yet Mat. I use the stur to shill section a lot but not since end of last summer. Plan to cycle the whole stretch this yeay now they've opened it around blandford. What do you make of peoples suggestions that the new surface is not great, what do you think of it Mat?
  6. you bought one then Alex. Ideal for all that regrowth mate.
  7. Good work Mat. Its nice seeing that line cleared and getting used again. Shame they blew up the bridges! I've used the trail way loads since it opened, so much nicer than being on the road and easier cos its flat.
  8. Good idea. Whats the point of spending money and time on nice pruning cuts in the middle of nowhere, where nobody will ever see these trees.

    Help

Could be frost that has killed that. If the sun comes round and then the dead part is shaded by something like a building?
  10. DEET has been used by travellers across the world over the years to stop the mossies'. I'm sure there was a study done very recently that proved it was totally ineffective.
  11. Excellent, I love putting my hand in my pocket for refresher courses (to remind me what I do every day) and then taking time off to do them!
  12. Fortunately I do not react too badly to them, feel for you guys and gals who do. Theres no getting away from them, its like they sneak up on ya!
  13. Bang on!! its all about the labour and logistics. Personally, I'd take Doobin's advice. It looks like you have no where near 10 tons to me, though difficult to tell from pics.
  14. Shaftesbury any good rid? Lenny 07773623039
  15. We have also lost 99% of our butterflys since Victorian times.
  16. Had an on site audit several months ago and my willans was five years old to the day, I kid you not, to the very day (what are the chances of that!!!). He said it was in very good condition and no need to take out of service yet (he is authorised to loler assess). 6 weeks or so ago the willans went in with my kit for loler inspection and went straight through.
  17. I never found a problem with the old style caps. I'm sure like many others, I keep a combi spanner in the fuel can, so it was always at hand to undo cap if needed. And as long as you're not unnecessarily brutal with it, your cap lasts.
  18. Why does it bug you Tom? you don't have a problem with them, good for you. Others do and its a pain for them. Read another thread
  19. I would have thought removing the tree and shrubs has increased value of house or at least made it a more pleasant place to live given the extra light that can now flood in through windows. I imagine that the downstairs room was quite gloomy before. This however was not a decision to be made solely by your tenants, they should have consulted you. I think it would be unreasonable to charge them for a like for like replacement though perhaps a small amount of compensation would be adequate. What are they like as tenants generally, is this the last of a long list of problems from them, or are they usually good tenants? I would have thought that this should be taken into consideration.
  20. Alot of forests were planted during and after the war, these should be reaching MAI.
