  1. Need a hand sat morn egg:thumbup1:
  2. is the climber controlling the lower?
  3. I still dont get it openboater, can you explain again please for the seriously slow here?
  4. I've lowered alot from the tree using the tail of my climbing line. Nothing that big. You can cut a stump in the tree, tie your tail to section to be lowered, then put several wraps around the stump. Make cut and your branch hangs, take off wraps and you can make controlled lower as the climber. I find its ideal if you've only got a couple of small bits to lower, saves setting up a rigging line.
  5. How are you getting on with your 'chargeur' Le Sanglier?
  6. Sorry Luke, I used the wrong word 'must'. I have found it burns better this way round as the wood chip starts to break down after chipping with the high moisture content.
  7. You must season the brushwood then chip, rather than chip then season.
  8. I've had a new '06' plate and a new '08' plate ranger and the newer one had alot more power, towed better and felt all round nicer to drive. I would rather the newer one.
  9. I have an '08' ranger and that tows my 1200kg chipper really well.
  10. I think we may need a little more info mate, quality of timber, mean dbh, top height etc....
  11. Just enjoyed the last episode, gutted theres no more!! Rumour has it that the same director is going to follow on with a series about Julius Ceaser. Have to agree Andy Winters was a better spatacus. John Hannah was an absolute legend in the earlier series.
  12. Fair play mate, I admire your energy. Though it is your choice.
  13. I've had a '2006' and a '2008' ranger. The newer shape 2008 drives and tows really well and is fairly economical too. I tow a tipper trailer of logs without any problem. I also regularly tow my 1250 kg chipper and have the back with greedy boards and as much chip as you could get in there and drives with no problems at all.
  14. However their safety precautions are second to none. I know of an employee recieving disciplinary action for not wearing safety gloves whilst peeling an apple with a knife during his lunch break!! A little over the top one thinks
  15. Scottish and Southern Energy employees must wear eye protection glasses as soon as they step out the motor for any reason, even to read a pole number.
  16. Have to agree with you there Stubby, syc and ash saeason and split well, best for making money on. But dead elm is prob favourite, beautiful hot slow burner. You know when you get that old dead oak that goes really hard without rotting (is there a name for it). That burns really well also.
  17. I'll make you tea all day Mr O'Grady if you bring your day rate down!!
  18. I was working on a shut down just south of north wooton tuesday, literally a stones throw from the festival. Can't of been far from you Alex!
  19. Is it a thistle next to a raleigh multi tool. Only kidding, it is a beautiful piece of work. Upmost respect for you guys creating these works of art.
  20. Land owner is responsible for replanting. I have known tree officers to come back and check.
  21. Depends how often you will need it mark. No good a brand new chipper you are paying finance on, sitting on your drive for 3 or 4 days a week. Depending on how much your mate is charging you, hiring can be a good way to go until you really need one full time. There are some really good hire firms out there. A company I was using recently hired me a 220mx schliesing for £500 a month (£25 per working day). No need for insurance or maintenance costs. I could then also use their mewps and arb trucks etc at good rate too. At the time it suited my business model. However, if you are going to need one at least 3-4 days a week, then i agree with others at looking to buy or hire purchase a new or ex demo one. Redwood offer a range of deals to suit different business models. Give a few company's a call and see what they can offer. And dont get swayed by the shiny paintwork, buy with your head not your heart.
  22. I have one nearly identical to that Dean.
