    Blood

Don't like needles much but can put up with it once every 4 months to donate. Find it more effort to answer the same questionnaire each time though!
  2. Brilliant!! That's my retirement project sorted.
  3. There's definitely a threshold I seemed to have to reach to be able to actively enjoy the run, rather than just survive a plod round the streets. Distance-wise you probably have to be able to manage a 4mile run from our house to get off the streets and into more interesting territory. Once I was up to that (it took a while) it was a bit easier to improve because the routes were more entertaining- trails/ farmland/ hilly bits and nicer surface/views. Be good to try a beach too. Onwards and upwards.
  4. +1 Don't create an eyesore, get it done properly
  5. Been on the bike quite a lot the last few weeks, building the mileage for last weekend's Way of the Roses trip with some pals. Lovely route if you get the chance. Not had the time/oomph for too much running. This was my call to get the running shoes back on. Legs took a bit of adjusting to lack of pedals!! Managed a 9-miler. Thanks to CM
  6. Check out this street in Porto Alegre, Brazil. Great that the locals love it so much. 7. You're 'aving a laarf
  8. Nice one Arbtalk! Thanks for the link (Paul)
  9. Makes me shudder reading this sort of thread. I've always bought Stihl, the local dealer is 15 mins up the road and they have given me years of good service and advice. I'd be reluctant to leave them for the Dark Side. The Stihl name always stood for reliability rather than super high revving/ fast cutting saws. Seems like buying one of their newer models is a bit of a punt these days? Thankfully I've stuck with the old model saws and haven't had to tackle any of the dodgy electrickery yet. BAH, HUMBUG !!!
  10. Hi-flex look great when new, but don't look new for very long. Especially if you're doing a lot of snaggy hedge jobs. You soon rip the arse out of them. Great if you like practicing your darning, mind. Got some SIP Freedom type C when my last hi-flex collapsed and think they're good for the money.

    Parkrun

Sounds an interesting course CM My nearest is on the Town Moor next to Newcastle city centre, so it gets a bit hectic with over 400 running most weeks. There are a few different courses in the area, so think I'll do a bit of parkrun tourism next time and check out the run at Whitley Bay which isn't so crowded.

    Parkrun

BUMP Had another go at Parkrun at beginning of Jan in fairly testing conditions. Ice underfoot made it really slippy and nasty. Better temperature for a run this week, so will have another bash tomorrow. Anyone else doing Parkrun these days??
  13. Really get the sense of height in the pics looking down on the house, eh? Great to get to work at a place like that. Thanks for sharing.
  14. 20+ years since I last had a racer, so things have moved on a bit. What sort of bike did you do your big trip on?
  15. In 8 days? Wow, that's a long way! I'd better keep up with the training then.... I got one of these to replace my go-anywhere touring mtb. Much easier on roads and generally a lot faster:thumbup:
  16. Sounds like a busy day:thumbup1: Been trying to build up my long distances over the Summer, but not managed a 100 so far. Just got myself a new bike which is making a big difference, so will give it a go before long. BURROWNESS?? :confused1:
  17. Didn't start out with a pumpkin patch at the allotment, but the seedling we planted went a bit mental and took over. This is the biggest. 100lbs and 6ft circumference. Mahoosive.
  18. Went out for a bit of a spin on the bike yesterday. Had done a respectable 20 miles and was looking for a route back home when I got chatting to a series of enthusiastic locals on bikes who all seemed keen that I continued further. Just to be sociable, I kept going to listen to the crack and ended up here. Parkhead Station House caff, about 35 miles from home. Nice downhill railway paths and a following wind got me back ok. Knackered, but ok.
  19. Yeah, that should do it!
  20. Did the coast2coast with a few mates over 3 days at the weekend. Had a brilliant time and were very lucky with the conditions- dry, warm enough and a 30mph tailwind on our last day. The middle day we had was mega, basically getting over the Pennines and was about 5200ft of ascent. Enough hills in a day for me, but a real buzz when it's over. The tour was much harder than I had imagined, and I'm impressed at the number of people taking it on. Respect to those who do this trip in 2 days :adore:
  21. We got to work on a couple of these lately and have started to notice them in a few places as street trees (salt tolerant I suppose?). Lovely and spiky if you get to climb in it. "oh yeah and apparently you can turn the berries into a nice jam or something." There is a caff up the coast at Amble that sells a very tasty Sea Buckthorn flavoured ice cream.
  22. I'm checking this out tomorrow, https://www.aldi.co.uk/en/specialbuys/thursday-5th-september/product-detail/ps/p/heavy-duty-garden-cart/ Ok..... I admit I'm a skinflint:blushing:
  23. That's a real achievement. Well done.
  24. Like it, very good idea. This happens every now and then and can be a real pain dealing with unreasonable neighbours who have appointed themselves Eco warriors even when the TPO/CA paperwork is in order. Will be keeping a list of relevant community liaison PCs' numbers for future reference.
