  1. Did a cheeky 15 miles on the bike tonight, taking the scenic route to see a few jobs. Trying to fit in as much bike as poss after work as I'm due to do the c2c with a few mates at the end of next week. Easy work day this Friday, so planning a 3-4 hour ride to get some more miles in.
  2. Silver-washed Fritillary. Don't get these beauties at home.
  3. Another
  4. Staying for the weekend in Somerset. This is how I spent most of my Saturday afternoon.
  5. In empty desolate parts of north Cumbria it's lovely weather for fracking.
  6. Managed a two day trip last weekend with a couple of mates Newcastle-Carlisle via Kielder on the Riever's Route. Sustrans route no.10. signed all the way, makes route-finding easy and they tend to keep you away from busy roads. Some pretty iffy weather about, so we were pleased to avoid a proper soaking and ended up with mostly sun. 55 miles day 1, 75 day 2
  7. Friends from Brampton have been keeping me updated about this story. Good to see he's not been able to get away with this stupid vandalism to make another fast buck.Seems like the bloke has put everyone's backs up about this locally. Lots of the prosecution case was based on photos and other testimony from ordinary people who have been walking and visiting this wood over the years. Good on them for standing up to this rich bully trying to throw his weight about.
  8. River Tyne is boundary. Simples Don't go telling any of the Lemington natives they're from the Heed, mind. Fighting talk
  9. Spent the summer of 1988 working in France sharing digs with 2 guys. Only music available was a couple of dodgy C90 tapes one of the others had brought, which got played incessantly whenever we were in the room. One was an old fave, Led Zep Physical Graffiti and the other had JJ Cale's Naturally and Troubadour albums on it, which I'd never heard of before. The tapes got played a LOT and the continual repetition was pretty hypnotic, so we got to know all the tracks in intimate detail. They were our desert island discs for the duration and whenever I hear them it will always remind me of that sunny alpine summer. Brilliant songs from a really groovy guy. :grinning-smiley-003:grinning-smiley-003
  10. Great day for it on Sunday. Some great demo s and some vary serious kit on show. Anyone else have a look over the road at the house and woodland?? Hadn't been since a tree ID exercise from Newton Rigg more than 20 yrs ago. Tried something similar this time and struggled a bit with the conifers Managed 16 out of 20. Must do better...

    ms 460

I have a 460 as my big saw and it cuts very well. It has a 20" bar on it. It is a bit old school mind, and you certainly notice the vibes if you're using it lots. It goes through a fair bit of petrol too. Almost the same weight, same power, better air filter, more fuel efficient, better anti-vibes......the newer 461 has got to be worth a look ??? (No, I don't work for Stihl)
  12. We're getting loads of them too Had them with cheese and/or pesto stirred in with pasta. It's great man.

    Parkrun

Anyone give it a go this week?? Gave it a miss last week cos it was just a bit too hot. Today we got a bit of cloud and much better conditions for the run.
  14. Yeah, it's fairly near to me so I'll pop over for a look on Sunday. Other than agricultural shows, there isn't much like this goes on up here is there? Good on them for organising it- support your local shows !!!
  15. Too easy eh? Thought the foliage was really nice. Kept a couple of lumps from the stem to rip in two to make novelty stools/chairs. It's got deeply coloured heart wood.
  16. Here's an unusual one we worked on yesterday in a suburban(quite posh) garden. First I've seen round here in 20+years working. Sadly the roots were knackered, so we had to chop it doon.

    Parkrun

Had a bad time last summer, so I'm super-aware every time I'm running about injuries. My occasional training runs are done solo. Part of my reason for Parkrunning is so that I can do a faster run while distracted/urged on by other people. Worked well on Sat and I'm a bit sore from the extra effort, but no tweaks. Running with other people gives you a much better workout, due to the competition. I don't fancy joining a running club, so I'm hoping Parkrun can give the training a boost. Now I'm looking for the equivalent for the bike!!!

    Parkrun

Think I'll pick and choose the weeks I do it too. Had pretty leisurely Fri last week for a change, so felt well rested for the run. This Friday I'll be wrestling with the stump grinder all day, so may not be quite as perky!!

    Parkrun

I felt fit to drop when I crossed the line. Didn't have anything to aim for, so I just ran. I've not done much running before and I've only done one organised event in the past, a 10k. Must be good after doing Parkrun a few times to have a better idea of the pace you can manage and (hopefully) see a bit of consistency/progress even. Do you end up hoping for a PB every week tho ???

    Parkrun

Yeah, I'm lucky to have the bike ride as an easy way to wake up/ loosen up on the way there. Not sure I would relish an uphill journey home though. Sounds tough!

    Parkrun

Wonder why it's taken me so long to have a go at this?:confused1: What a great event! Cycled steadily over there in 20 mins which worked well as a warm-up. Had time for a bit of trotting and a stretch before the off. Never ran in a 5k event before, so was concerned about what pace to go at. The only tactic I had was to start near the back so that I was chasing people, rather than being overtaken all the time. Worked pretty well and I managed a fairly even pace. Next time I'll make sure my laces are tied securely, cos I had to stop to tie them in the final k:blushing: Despite the schoolboy error I was very pleased with the 22:53 time. Faster than any training I've ever managed! I'll definitely be back for more Parkruns and would recommend it if you've never tried.

    Parkrun

There's generally quite a good turnout for the local run, 300+. Hoping I get a bit of a boost from the atmosphere to get me to go a bit faster than my normal jog.

    Parkrun

Running my first ever Parkrun this week after quite a lot.of time recovering from an Achilles injury. Haven't been able to train with much in the way of speedy running yet, but it feels like time to go for it for 5k at least. The killer could be being ready and warmed up for the 9am start time!!
  24. Spinach, asparagus, poached egg, toast. Beat that !!
