  1. Hmmm ford engine. Should be ok. After everything has been stripped from it. Non essential items removed. Was thinking of simple engine, can't have all the electronics on it so simple carb fed fuel, injectors and the like will add too much weight and having to attach fuel electronic systems just add to the bulk of the engine. Like the quad clutch idea. Will be going round the scrap yards soon to see what's available.
  2. Feel free to jump in. I'm looking at building a v6 chainsaw. So first I'm looking for an engine. Obviously petrol as the weight of a diesel will be too much to handle. Any ideas on a small one. Second I'm looking for a bar. Now I've seen the American ones are huge that they use so I'm going on the fact they make there's. this route I will probably have to take so need a manufacturer to make one. Second is actually setting it up. I know I will need stop buttons and safety switches etc. these I can add as and when but attaching the bar and chain to engine could be very difficult. Will need to make up a sprocket that can attach to the engine. Not sure to go with some sort of clutch system or just go direct. Thoughts and ideas ar more than welcome. Will keep posted as to how I come along with it.
  3. I'm not convinced I'm going to have any stihls ported by then. The dolmar still needs the all important chain break and some av mounts before I can really test it out. Bit dodgy using it without a brake. I do like the 048 av but needs a new bar and I need to see d a tree surgeons as its his (hint hint) but it does pull like a train on a big bar. Maybe if I buy a new bar for it. Not quick but very powerfull. Of course if I find a v6 engine in time I may bring that along and see if I can beat the 30inch log in 3 seconds.
  4. One of them disposable ones Paul.... Once it goes wrong it goes in the bin.
  5. Wet and very windy. Horrible it is. Not going out until later. Would rather have snow.
  6. Think dalton is right. The 4t bit would be rolling stock pull. I.e on a trailer or wheels. Drag pull would be half that. Doesn't really say much about it to be honest. Can't see if the handle has a safety device in it like the tifor. Could be ok for light use. Or as emergency backup.
  7. Should have got a stihl...... Take it back to husky and say you want it updated to a newer one as it must be one of the dodgy ones.
  8. D a tree surgeons has two and I have replaced one brake band in 7 to 8 years of fixing his machines. Don't think he has had them that long but I have only replaced one on them.
  9. The spring is suppose to be bent inwards slighty, on the longer end. Also has the lever th spring connects to ok and does it have the E clip on it. And is it on the post all the way in so the clip sits in the groove on the post?
  10. Lucky. Another inch or two up and it would have been worse. Like you say things happen, no amount of hse could of prevent it exept putting the saw down. But then we have all done it, walked carrying more than we should to save time or trips going back and fourth. I found that going to a and e if they know you are self employed they will help a lot quicker. But I would never go during a Friday night. Heal quick.
  11. Can't really post anything that hasn't already. Great forum, the information that is available on here is huge, but best of all its mostly from people's own experience not what they have been taught but what they have learnt. I've learnt way too much about two stroke engines that only a small amount of it was taught during my college days. You can't teach experience. I've probably upset a few in my posts and I've had the odd argument before. I would rather people send me a pm or just give me a nudge if I do, I feel its easier to deal with that way than to misinterpret a post. Sometimes posts are wrong, the most important thing to do is to write another post but try and add some facts with it, evidence is better than just words. This forum will always be good, some threads just make me smile when I read them as they can be funny and add humour. And after a day from hell just make the evening feel better and forget about the troubles of the day. There is a LOT more on this forum than just trees but this makes it more worth while IMO.
  12. I had no idea spud. I'm sure on a boys day out I can bring some cake along to calm the nerves a bit
  13. They have been out for a long while. Wouldn't use one indoors unless you want to claim for flood damage... Do like the bar tho. Wounder if it would work with oil so more chain oil gets through...
  14. I can see this thread getting closed soon.....
  15. My avatar says it all mate.. Might not be a children's charity. Or trying to feed a third world but I have raised money and helped raise and will do in the future. Plus a selfless act of going out in stupid weather to assist in the saving of a life. Or putting ourselves in harms way. Like last night going out to a dredge with a bomb it dug up. Could have blown and had the lot of us but still went. Some charity I see as more than worth my time but others I find hard to swallow. My son was in hospital with broncholitis at 2months and I will always donate to them that took care of him as he would not be here today if it wasn't for them.
  16. It's ok spud. Calm down. It won't be another suspense one. Unless I feel like I need to make it one, just to keep you on your toes. I don't know anything about it yet ask havnt even tried to start it and won't until after the weekend as I'm spending time with the other half as I havnt seen much of her lately. Tell you what I will do. I won't post about the saw until I have it fixed. I will only message div and then if he wants to post then he can
  17. Ok 16 it is then. I've had a few engines before Come to me with wont start and low and behold I've pulled them over and second pull away they go  Will find out soon enough
  18. No it's ok. I did just undo the fuel cap and there was a strong smell of fuel in it. So it has had some at some point But if I fill it up and it runs fine I'm or actually sure what I'm going to do with it... Could clean it I suppose What size bar do you have on it by the way? Just for retune I can get the right size bar on it to ensure it runs good!
  19. No chance. And I don't believe this is it "dirty"
  20. Hahaha. Thought by now everyone would know I like a good challenging saw that racks the cobwebs out of my brains. (Ms200t)
  21. Yeah definatly..... What about you spud?
  22. I hate the telly around this time. It does wind me up so you are not alone le sanlier. I don't really mind the charity thing, just some of the comics think they are funny when they are clearly not. And I feel they try and ram it down your throught. Hence why I don't watch it. I'm all for charity's and helping out but don't want it shoved in my face for weeks. Just my opinion on it all.
  23. 026 turned up today but havnt had a chance to even unpack it yet. Will take a look in a min. And it's somewhere very near the top of the list, so have no fear div-h it will get looked at very soon.
  24. As a narrow minded tech I just stare at the saw all day before deciding that stuff the customer it look ok to me. And send them an invoice for a days labour.......

Well that was a bit of fun tonight. A dredge had scooped up a UXB, had to go out and escort the dredge to a safe place away form shipping lanes and take 10 non vital crew off it. Then back to boat house to drop them off and take he bomb disposal or OED out to take a look. They decided to control explode it out in Chanel. Nice bit of fireworks I must say. Back to boathouse and home in time for tea.
