  1. I wonder how much the fella got paid to do the job?
  2. Changing the blades for the first time here in NZ (We dont use it much, have the Bandit) not looked at them since i got it here. Think the anvil might be a bit broken!
  3. Hot here... Bloody hot. I was leaving footprints in the tar on the road.
  4. Sounds reasonable to me... What is the outlay for the project. Just ou of interest what type of kiln have you got/ getting? I'm building one ATM.
  5. My thoughts exactley!
  6. Just fell it. Its going to have to come out at some point, rathe sooner than later. At least if you re-plant it willbe established quicker.
  7. Bloody annoying looking at the pics upside down on the iPhone! Tidy job though
  8. One of the best tree videos I've seen. Looked like a great job, good group of guys who know what there doing with good gear. Very impressed!
  9. The firewood fairy's are quite good to us too. Very handy when you haven't got the time, space or energy to shift the timber. Very annoying when your on a skid site and you come back on a morning to find people helping themselves to timber you've bought, felled and got roadside!
  10. If it was a regular thing I wouldn't be working for the company but things happen, you have to have a bit of understanding. That's life.
  11. We pay $600 per month. (about 300 pounds) for some hard standing. No lock up, no power.
  12. Same here, decided to buy a rope when i got here. When I decided to stay I shipped out two 200t's , a 625i chipper, a blower, spikes, various ropes and other bits.
  13. We try and leave as much as we can on site or give it away to a friend who will come and collect it. We still have tons of it it the yard though! Give some away, the lads take it as a perk of the job, sell a bit. Arb waste is hardly worth processing on a large scale so try and get rid where we can.... Not sure this helps!
  14. A very impressive video, a very impressive way of doing things. Just goes to show what can be done with a vast amount of experiance and using the right gear for the job. It would have been interesting to know why they hadn't used a helicopter to lift the pieces out.
  15. I try not to charge a hourly rate for anything we do. We charge what the jobs worth. A couple of hours felling and chipping up pines with $100,000 (50,000 pounds) worth of kit is a bit different to a couple of hours pruning someone’s camellias. When it comes to stump grinding p/h rate, the answer as always is… as much as possible! But for what its worth we have a wee pedestrian stump grinder we bought for $3500 inc GST. About 1750 pounds inc VAT. I spend every fri stump grinding by myself and make between $700-$800 + GST ( 350-400 pounds + GST)
  16. I try tend not to loose my rag too much- it generally ends up costing too much! When I was working for someone he had a echo hedge cutter. Complete pics of crap, wouldn't start, wouldn't run, would drop apart- needed putting in the bin. Told the boss... He didn't do anything...... Months passed working with this fu$&@?g thing. One day on a job I finally got it going, went up the ladder and crapped out wouldn't start and the fuel tank dtopped off covering me in 2stroke. That was it threw it off the hedge smashing it into pieces. Anyway I got it back together and the boss dropped in to see how we were going... He had a go with it, realised haw crap it was and bought a nice new one that day. Now I have my own business/ staff if anythings not running/ working properly it gets fixed.
  17. As already said- no not replace the original static bracing system with a dynamic one. A local"tree consultant" talked the botanic gardens here in Dunedin to do that with a oak tree. We got sent to do it. Even before we started doing the work we said it was crazy. Anyway needless to say the trees failed now. Waste of time, money and resources.
  18. Drugs at work I agree with, drink on site I agree with. We have a few beers at the yard at the end of a long week. I don't see the problem....
  19. Would it be cheaper if I took the day off work and helped?.... Errrrr- no!
  20. Get a phone call in the morning... Are you still coming today? Yeah sure thing... But its raining.... Oh..so it is, oh well... Do you work in the rain? Yeah no worries... Is that safe?.. I hope so! we'll see you in a hour.
  21. Nice truck, alloy sides would make her look sweet! She a tipper?
  22. That's the joys of the job.... Just have to get on with it!
  23. It's not really, just over 300 cube a month. It's only a 4 days on the processor a month. We are coming up to our busy time (beginning of summer) people buy it green for a bit cheaper. Saves having logs stuck in the yard all year. We only make around $40 profit per cube (£20) so not a lot but when your turning over a large volume you can make a go of it. Also it's only a side line to coinside with our tree works.
