  1. I don't often find myself agreeing with you Tony but I think you're absolutely right.
  2. Have you taken as much friction as you can out of the system? The other thing you can do, if you're climbing on a self tending prusik, is add a croll and foot loop [you could use a Pantin but on a self tending system a Croll works fine, it's what I started off on]. That way rather than straining with all your might to pull down, you just stand up to advance the hitch, then sit down and pull the Croll up and the system does everything else...
  3. What years were the A55's made? A friend of mine was a Holder dealer back in the 80's, he may have some info... I'll drop him an email....
  4. Am I right in saying that this lever is scalloped so the rope runs through it? So you can't run the grub screw all the way through? Would a sensible mod for this not be to remove the grub screw, use a small drill bit and ream a shallow detente into the lever that the grub screw can nestle into, then reassemble with some thread lock? If I were rash enough to buy one of these I think that would be the first thing I'd do....
  5. Common fault, although the intermittent-ness of this suggests it could be some other gremlin... See here for ECU loom replacement info... [albeit for Disco but same principal] www.discovery2.co.uk / Workshop /Injector Harness Immobiliser could be an issue... if it plays up try taking the key out, open & close the door, lock it with the button, unlock, open / close the door again and then try to start it. The half hour thing may just be coincidence.... Is your battery up to spec? Get it tested at the local garage.... that might not be helping. Also as suggested, tapping relays under the seat might help! Next thing is join a Land Rover forum and try to find someone near you with a Nanocom or Hawkeye diagnostic computer they'll plug in for you....
  6. Welcome, credit where credit's due and all that! What's a real shame is that I didn't know about this a couple of months ago, it was my 'wood' wedding anniversary [i was informed!] and my wife would have loved one of these! I may still treat her to one for her birthday later in the year yet, I'll email you a sketch of what I'd like, I'd like to wall mount it...
  7. That is lovely! So am I right in saying it was getting on for £70? I'd pay that... and I'm notoriously tight!
  8. I once cut a ginger bloke in half..... he claimed to be a brunette.... we found he was telling fibs.... he was actually an Alder....
  9. creases then!
  10. Bad news Justin, sorry to hear that. I guess you have records of serial numbers etc?
  11. Can you imagine closing Birmingham for Matthew Wilson...? Wouldn't be quite the same! Ken Block is an incredible driver, very precise and a real showman, don't think that translates onto much of the WRC but I love watching these films, he's a big kid and a massive show off, fair play to him, he's living the dream!
  12. Fair point! Incidentally, what bog roll would you recommend, personally I don't like it too thick, can't get in all the cracks....
  13. Yep, Alder
  14. I'd agree with this, make sure you try out a few harnesses and give a bit of thought about not just what you're climbing now but where you think you'll be in a few months. There's probably only £100 between the top end harness and entry level, but £100 on top of £150 is less than £250 on top of £150 in a couple of months..! I doubt it will be long before you're moving on from a prusik either so rather than buying a kit based round a prusik, you might be better off building a kit intended for VT etc. and adding in a couple of quid's worth of hitch cord, tying your own loop and starting on that rather than the two loops in that kit. They're an expensive way of getting prusik loops IMO.... I guess you want a rope, harness, cambium saver, various lengths of hitch cord, half a dozen carabiners, couple of small pulleys, lanyard kit, throw line.
  15. I've not had that problem on mine, I've found it to be quite a nice rope. I don't think it's very easy to splice though....
  16. It's fine so long as the harness is comfy and you want to climb on a prusik... have you tried the harness? Wouldn't be my first choice I don't think...
  17. I have a great imagination, but I prefer to put it to use swashbuckling stuff or mooching round the middle east..... I find reading sex scenes just a bit weird.... I do the nasty stuff with the wife, and we have 3 kids already, so the last thing we need in this house is any more stimulation, god help us....
  18. Distel gets good feedback, as does a knut. I use a 2/1 VT on a very short cord. What rope & friction cord do you have?
  19. We drilled a hole in the top filler plug on our Dexta and welded an elbow and 3/4 bsp thread on to it.... I would imagine you'll be able to get away with something similar on this, I don't think they're over complicated inside...
  20. I must admit the thought of this book turns my stomach! I'm no prude, I love a bit of good old fashioned filth as much as the next man, but when I come to a 'love scene' in any of the novels I read I just skip it, I see no purpose of literary sex. Pictures or video every time!
  21. Mike, chill! We listed our old office copier on ebay a little while ago, or my boss did anyway, forgetting the 'usual ebay t's & c's' and it ended up being bought by a Nigerian 200 miles away in London... Here we go we thought... The bloke could barely speak a word of English, hadn't a clue where Ludlow was, asked if we could deliver, all that jazz. About to cancel the sale and the money appears in Paypay, then we get an email saying a courier will collect it and could we put it on a pallet for him? We duly obliged, expecting the courier to not turn up, but lo and behold, he did, and off it went. We were astounded! But it gets better! A couple of days later we got a really nice email in broken English from the guy, thanking us for all the help, complimenting us on the packaging and saying it was so good he didn't even unwrap it like he normally does, but sent it straight on to Nigeria. And did we know of any vans he could buy! So seriously Mike, you're well protected. Get a collection note from the transport company and you'll be fine. The majority of the world are still straight up folks despite what the media would have us believe...
  22. No, you're confusing it with Penthouse....
  23. Presumably these are straight arb tenders, not for arb work as part of a larger project, for instance CCTV installation and maintenance?
  24. I wasn't being a smartarse by the way! It was a poorly phrased but genuine question!
  25. They will be acting as a main contractor and will be on the council list. If you want to cut them out approach the council and ask to get on their approved list. You'll need to get past the PQQ process first but assuming you have all the insurances there's no reason why you shouldn't work direct. You might make a friend at the council and get the peachy negotiated jobs which occasionally come up.... Just bear in mind that on the other hand, if you cut them out, you won't necessarily get any more work from the council and it may do you damage if you work with them, or other contractors outside of this.... And incidentally, as a sub contractor to them, the tree work you do is covered by your insurance anyway...
