  1. Bloody hell that's a long way down, and that manky wood holding your up didn't inspire the greatest confidence. Fair play....
  2. I have 30 odd to re-pollard at home.... every time I drive past them I'm reminded about how desperate they are to be done, starting to lose the odd limb now so it's well over-due..... Some of them can be horrid things to work on, and by god don't they generate some brash..... Can I smell smoke....? Manitou, fork, bonfire.....

Aha... less good then.... still, as you say, easily sorted.... Is the re-tune as easy as re-setting the screws to standard 460 settings or is there more to it than that...? Can I do it myself is what I'm asking.... Hmmm, wonder if this bar I have is for my 260......
  4. That's brilliant.... but I reckon I could split those logs with a cake slice....

That's what I was hoping for.... Do the bigger chassis Stihls have different bar mount patterns ton the smaller ones? I have an 18" bar lying around somewhere but I think it's for a smaller saw, will it fit, oiler holes line up etc?

You, sir, are an arse! For a split second there my bloody heart stopped!! Excellent, I'm a bit soft and love the decompression valve... I did... too dear for me!
  7. It wouldn't be beyond the wit of man surely for them to add a drop down arm with an interlock trigger in the end of it to the side of table... that would give the 2 handed operation needed for CE and a decent mechanical device to restrain logs rather than using your hand.... I reckon they look bloody marvellous and this is exactly the sort of log splitter you need for doing domestic work.... Incidentally, I reckon there's a greater chance of me losing a hand chopping kindling with a machete type thing that with one of those things..... bloody meddling Europeans....

Done. 25" MS460C on it's way... What does the 'C' suffix mean? Don't tell me I've bought some kind of semi skimmed ladybird saw....?!

On the verge of splurging on a 460, although used rather than new sadly. I want to run a 25" bar on it, mainly through native hardwood. I know 25 is the largest bar Stihl offer it with as standard new in the UK.... Presumably it's well up to this for logging and felling for the little use I'll give it....? Doesn't seem to be that far behind a 650 and a fair bit lighter.... Ideal for me I reckon... Someone back me up with some reassurance please, to take away the intense guilt of sticking it on the credit card...?
  11. Hi guys Pricing up some work for a client of ours. There's a reasonable sized Wellingtonia dismantle needs doing. It's not a definite and will only become part of our package if their regular tree surgeon can't do the job. I'm looking for a minimum 4 man team with a decent sized chipper & pick up / lorry. It's a big old tree and everything will need removing from site. I haven't measured it but I guess from memory it's probably standing around 50 feet and the base is probably getting on for 4' diameter. The stump will need grinding out. We'll dig the roots afterwards. I think the client is doing the TPO / planning application. Obviously all the insurances will need to be in place and I'll need written risk & method before you start. I can help with this if necessary. PM me if you're interested and I'll give you some more details.
  12. The cynic in me says potential job losses at C&G forced thumb twiddlers to come up with some sort of project to make them look busy while cuts were being made..... The other side of me says.... er.... No, can't think of anything....
  13. I posted this link to the NPTC site a little while ago, I couldn't find trhe CS units listed as we knew them either. It seems there's now a new award, made up of the previous CS units as modules... NPTC CS 0960 replaces CS 30 and is made up of units 30.1 & 30.2, which seem to cover everything previously covered by CS 30 Interestingly it still refers to the CS30 assessment schedule on the site... 0966 replaces CS38... but again, still refers to the schedule for 38.... So sounds like change for change's sake...
  14. Or CTRL and 0
  15. Did you go on his website after the listing, 'a massive f***** raffle'....? All good fun....
  16. Is that the 'special code you tap in... with a hammer' one...?
  17. You clearly never saw the one for the Astravan..... It was so good I saved it, I'll see if I can find the pdf.... EDIT! Seek and ye shall find...! eBay Questions 2.pdf eBay Questions.pdf eBay Fanny Magnet.pdf
  18. I have been having lustful feelings towards Husqvarna saws.... As a lifelong Stihl man these are feelings I'm not entirely comfortable with.... In all seriousness though, the price of new Stihl kit is staggering. It's been a long time since I used a Husky in anger, although a friend has bought one of the dinky 30 something cc ones, and I quite fancy a change. Are these feelings normal? Should I see a doctor...? Should I get the 08S out, man up and start using that instead? Yours faithfully Confused From Worcestershire
  19. Good point....
  20. I'm with Steve on this one, we all had to start somwhere. And how do you know the photos are from a 2 year old listing TCD, I tried to find similar and couldn't? [As an aside, Stratstone also had zero ebay feedback last time I checked....!] However, if you're concerned the quickest way to catch them out is ask him to send some more photos of specific things to your mobile. If he says he can't then ask how he managed to create the listing on a mobile in the first place?
  21. And vise versa.... Understanding the operation of the rest of the team will make anyone a better team player, and by extension the team a more effective, and safer, entity....
  22. Would it not be easier to climb it Rob...?!
  23. Good luck with it. There's always opportunities for hard workers who have something about them. Willingness to take on board advice always gets positive feedback from potential employers. Best course of action now would be to get a couple of basic tickets under your belt, pick up a saw with a 14" to 16" bar, trousers, boots, helmet, gloves & a first aid kit for your belt and start making yourself available. The qualification structure seems to have changed since I did mine, start here... NPTC Once you get yourself set up to be able to turn up on site and dismantle felled limbs safely then you'll be useful to have around and will be able to start building up experience. The 'problem' with this industry is that experience is king, it's a bit 'chicken and egg'....!
  24. No problem We sold quite a few of them, mostly on turfs with mid mounted decks, some with hi-lift collectors on the linkage. I think they all come with mid PTO & power lift underneath. IIRC the BX2200D was the 4wd version, they had electrically assisted power steering, like most cars do now, 3 cyl diesel, hydraulic linkage [can't remember whether it was link sensing with draft control] hydrostatic transmission and 22hp. Not a very high travel speed, would be a bit steady with a mini forwarding trailer on forestry roads, but plenty fast enough in work. This was the only one I sold in 'ag spec'. Brilliant little machine, very versatile. I'd love one!!!
