  1. I'm assuming if you order the xpg it will be the latest model with the fix. Has anyone got the xpg btw ?
  2. So you would rather a chain hit your hand without a glove than with one on ?
  3. Its absolutely amazing me how many people on here complain about gloves being uncomfortable etc, i would say they must be wearing the wrong type of glove for the situation or are wearing the wrong size. I simply cant understand how you can feel safer not wearing them . I do agree that for the money they just do not last and dry out poorly. I seem to be standing alone on this topic for some unknown reason
  4. I'd still take my chance wearing them than not. The saw doesnt have to be running to cut yourself with it , well mines certainly dont. Surely you must wear them when taking down old hedges etc, the amount of crap you come across is a hazard in itself . All the big arb companies there mandatory anyway so for the vast majority of operators they better get used to them.
  5. Couple of things to clear up first . ' Difflock ' those are fly masks . Did you see the amount of mozzies/midgies in the film ? It would have been cruel for a horse NOT to wear them in that wood. ' Parker ' at 2.45 that is what separates a horse that pulls wood and a professional logging horse . ( that was my favourite bit ) . A horse cant be forced into doing that , this is teamwork based on trust. The horses had massive tricep muscles , really impressive. The icing on the cake was them being so evenly paired in size and colour, perfection. Best arbtalk moment for me by a country mile....Thanks very much for the post
  6. Cocker ?........sorry I'm out of here:001_tongue:
  7. Good shout Trad, I played football with a guy that died from this . Very,Very important.
  8. Recieved a kick in the chops from fr jones yesterday . After me gloating on here about getting a new 560xpg i got the dreaded phone call to say there would be none till the end of March. Went out on the pony to cheer myself up and got dumped twice within 5 mins , the second one face first into a big soft ploughed field Got in the house had a shower and a sit down when the cat jumped up on me with **** stuck to its arse . lucky white heather !
  9. I apologize for my opening statement last night . Way ott. In saying that i still believe there are youngsters coming in to the industry that think it is ' cool ' not to wear them. A dangerous precedence imo.
  10. I agree if they are soaking wet, but there are alternatives now , we are spoiled for choice when it comes to kit, there really is no excuse. I used maybe over the top words Eva , i know your not an idiot but i was just trying to get across the importance of safety to beginners FROM DAY ONE. We all make mistakes Eva , you know this especially at the end of a long hard day when fatigue sets in and we just want the job done and to go home. That saw can get mighty close to the back of the left hand in tight conifers etc. Why do the top manufacturers put protection on the back of the left hand ? Do you know something they dont ?
  11. I've seen a chain come off at full tilt and destroy a chain catcher. What it would do to your fingers god only knows. Thats fine by me if individuals decide not to wear them but i strongly disagree with experienced personell condoning it to beginners . A disregard for safety at such an early stage in ones career is heading for a shock one day .
  12. It is used as a termination knot over here but not in the states i believe. When not loaded it can move and theoretically slip down onto the gate of the Krab and load it wrongly . Old habits die hard though its just such a tried and tested knot.
  13. Because they are macho idiots predator. I can assure you it impresses no one .
  14. I feel like an eight year old sitting up late for a ghost story !!
  15. Come on Gardenkit ! What did you see ?
  16. Havent seen one personally but have worked with a couple of people who have. Both persons were not your hippy , outlandish types or even just silly buggers but very sensible , down to earth people which makes me think there is something in it .
  17. Sorry , forgot to add , a roving mike at the end is always a good idea but keep it quite short as it can run out of control a bit.
  18. I ironically agree with central , I'm not saying make up porky pies but public speaking is a skill in itself no matter how knowledgeable you are. If its for a group of academics thats a different story . But if its for your ordinary guy they will be looking for a decent night out as much as anything with picking up some good facts and figures along the way
  19. I know exactly where you are coming from salix . Old fashioned heavy duty steel snatch blocks would have been the order of the day at one time up until fairly recently when these fancy DMM's and the like came into force. This is absolutely not compromising on safety as some have suggested .. on the contrary , I would trust a heavy duty steel snatch block anyday over these ultralight weight cast jobs . The benefits of modern technology goes without saying though.
  20. There is a Scottish traditional dance called ' Strip the Willow ' . It dates back many centuries where the men and women stripped the willow bark to die fabrics and use the bare bundled sticks. It is performed at just about every Scottish wedding today and is great fun
  21. Clarks forestry is on here to the right of the screen , they do all sorts to your spec. Very pleasant people to deal with aswell.
  22. Hi Kat , pony looks completely chilled about it , great work , nice photos
