  1. I think the problem here is that you don't seem to accept that you were mistaken not to have text your client with a price for the second tree. A few seconds would have removed any dispute.
  2. Wether the client is a prick or not is irrelevant. What's the bloke got to go to court with? Any photos to allow the trees were similar size? Just got two stumps in his garden. No price was discussed or anything. I wouldn't waste my time and take my chances in court. Just put him on the blacklist and learn.
  3. I definitely had him down as a spaniel! That'd no insult Stefan. I'm very guilty of putting work before relationships. Perhaps not in the same sense as you, but I've put certain things on hold until I'm in a better situation financially. That's what I tell myself at least, but I've made my partner feel like second fiddle to work before. It's a difficult line.
  4. Yup, if its literally five minutes than no worries, the good will is worth more than seeming like a mercenary. Anything that impacts further productivity is worth something. Depending on who I'm working for ill either quote the work or ring the office. It all reflects on you as a stubby with how much money you bring to the company.
  5. I wasn't, and it was.
  6. It was drunker...
  7. well I've met you once, so I'm dancing with irony here... But thankfully, rarely.
  8. You think? You're fooling no-one mate
  9. lacking backbone...
  10. Basically a jelly fish?
  11. I wonder if he's got enough self confidence to create a poll...
  12. Ask matelot
  13. Apparently not...
  14. Cockchafer?
  15. And herein lies the issue... you're only interested when people agree.
  16. Ah, it appears that "in typical arbtalk fashion" I've missed the point!
  17. Its 9mm. I dont know why I couldn't ignore that. Marlowe rope is a terrible thing, used by people who don't know any better. I'm still bitter after a failed splicing attempt years ago. Those bastards just had to be unique in their construction. Glad you enjoy it though... You gone back to a prussik mate? Why!? Armour pruss do a 10mm cord which should be perfect. Can't imagine you'll find anything better.
  18. hard to say mate, but from reading a lot of Stefan's posts it would seem that being busy with work (by his own admission at the expense of those he holds dear) is his sole measure of success. In its own right, that's fine. To create a thread preaching THE way to "grow a successful business" without justifying the commitment comes across as self aggrandising.
  19. Stefan, I doubt you'll find that anyone is wishing you failure, seems like most (myself included) are just wondering if your incessant hard work is paying you well. The fact that you're avoiding the question could indicate otherwise. although you're perfectly entitled not to answer, you can't really be indignant either.
  20. The original title of the thread was "how to grow a successful business" Chessa. So far according to Stefan the way for us to become successful is to work every waking minute. That's easy to do, the hard part is making it worth your while, hence the questions.
  21. A lot of people mistake "successful" for "busy". Anyone remember the bloke chatting about his mate that ran a successful tree firm! Kept three lads busy year round but only made £25k a year.
  22. The ST8 is a blinding chipper, but I certainly wouldn't want to own one out of warranty!
  23. works for me!
