  1. Don't be fooled, he really is a twat.
  2. Roker Tree Services, in Verdes cafe, Long Buckby
  3. Good luck to you mate. Saw your card in Verdes and couldn't help thinking the only business you'll get from that is tarmaccers and council workers!
  4. could you not use freelancers to help take the climbing load off? A couple of guys I work for use me for jobs they could happily do themselves just so they can run things from the ground.
  5. You're missing the point Matty. If you smoke while up a tree, you will certainly die.
  6. Personally I think that having a cig in a tree is the most dangerous thing about climbing...
  7. they've covered this, its not a design fault, its YOUR fault...
  8. If you're good then you'll do fine, ring around a few firms near you for a chat and tell them what you're about. Arbtalk is a fantastic resource for finding work also. Use it. Provided you can do what you say you can you shouldn't struggle for work. You'll meet new people and see different ways of working, some good and some bad. Be prepared to travel a little bit for the right clients.
  9. I don't understand why anyone would. Throwbag on your climbing line will get you that far! Or ladders if you can swallow your pride...
  10. I had an 038 super on a 20" bar and it was a torquey lump of a saw. An 18" bar would run lovely. It was a dead simple job to replace the piston rings (I bought meteor ones, which are apparently a good make if you don't want to splash out for oem. ) Really easy and simple to maintain if you don't mind the extra weight and slightly slower chain speed.
  11. I'm running the 95TXL with the speedcut bar on my ported 357. Pulls an 18" bar easily. Fantastic chain. I wouldn't bother with the oregon bar though, its flimsy and easily bent. Sugi do a posh bar to fit the 95txl now which will be a much better option.
  12. This was brought up with stein on here a while ago when they were promoting a new version of the lid. They absolutely refused to accept that it was a design flaw and passed the buck to user error. Pitiful
  13. just re-read it, are we talking aerial pruning? There's no need for a 12" bar if so, get the 10" For ground work the ms180 is a great saw within your budget for the size cuts you want.
  14. £200 will get you 3 decent silky and change. If you want a decent pruning saw like you stated then spend the extra and get an MS150 or a 2511. Both excellent pruning saws. They cost around £350-400 though.
  15. fair enough, your kit probably lives in your van. I've got to unload and load mine twice a day so can't be arsed with two lines.
  16. you're right, it flexes between the crab and the tether. Needs dressing after ascent. Ill have to figure out a way to keep it rigid. I always experiment and end up going back to a hc. Why would you need a different rope?
  17. I ordered a stein cube from honeys and they sent me out a notch copy. Tickles me that someone's started copying stein and charging a quid less!
  18. I now operate a "door always open" policy...
  19. I wasn't implying that you weren't competitive, but I don't get the impression you're trying to be cheap either.
  20. So reading between the lines, I should probably up my day rate. What do you think it should go up to?
  21. You're a very good example of choosing your customers though mate. If you had multiple lads on the books working in urban areas you might be pushed to be more competitive. I think you and Ben have incompatible business demographics.
  22. Gonna try the zz rw combo again, just knocked this up which should Maggie changing to ddrt easy.
  23. I'm happy for both of It was the Sawpod or the Talon, i went with the Talon. Very happy with it. And I'm happy for you. I don't use a silky often at all, its a useful tool for nipping off the odd 3" branch, but not enough to merit strapping it to my leg every time I climb...
  24. nobody has mentioned the fundamental difference between the two. On the rope guide, the cam releases on retrieval, bringing more slack into the system. This doesn't happen with a pulley saver as the pulley is tied with a prussik. Makes a big difference, worth a few quid extra
  25. Possibly, but as long as I get on with and respect the person I'm working for, I'm happy to think that they're making money off me. After all, that's what they're paying me for!
