  1. What I said might have been a bit strong. But I stand by the gist of it. An expensive new rope isn't going to make a huge difference to your climbing. Also having an assortment of ropes is only going to be more stuff to lug about. If I were you I'd stick with what you have invested in, until you get to a point where either it's worn out, not long enough, or you have got to the point where the limitations of your current equipment is hampering you. But then, that's just my opinion. Plenty of people on here will disagree.
  2. Don't take this the wrong way, but your question makes you sound like a muppet. A rope is a tool, until you can tell why it's not good enough for your needs you don't need to change it. You have a perfectly good rope there, and it will do most of the jobs which you will deal with. If you want to waste some money, go and buy a flash car. (Note I might be having a go abit, given you are trouncing marlow ropes... All my ropes are marlow!)
  3. You know that the petrol at supermarkets come from the same refineries as all the other garages don't you... Infact the fuel just comes from the nearest... The only difference is the injector cleaner and other stuff thats thrown into it, can't imagine that affecting a 2 stroke.

Well, I hope you went out and had a word. So you can clearly tell us if he has insurance and quals. Or... are you just slagging him off on the internet? Also burning waste doesn't make you a cowboy. Infact in many situation it's much much more practical and economical.
  5. Where are you based? I could lend you a ground saw for the day if your local and desperate.
  6. I do want to give up. I want to be fitter, I want to be more sociable, I want to have another 150 quid a week, I don't want to hold my nephew in 3 weeks and make him stink of fags, I dont want to have to explain to any kids I have in the future why it's ok for me to fill my lungs with toxins but they shouldn't. As soft as this sounds, I've done everything to make excuses to stop all of the above helping me. If use stress at work, relationship problems and everything else as my excuse for not taking control.
  7. Lots of interesteding stuff here. Psychologically I can see what's being said about carrying around a packet with a lighter. But I'm human and if they are there when I'm weak I'll probably fail. I'm done with inhaling toxins into my lungs and spending nearly 20 quid a day for the pleasure.
  8. Right I need a little help now fellas. I've gone from 60 a day to none, I started it as a new years resolution and my stubbornness won't let me give up. So I've done nearly 48 hours done. Just need some words of wisdom cos I'm going through a bit of hell at the moment. Similarly if anyone else is giving up at the moment feel free to post. Im already working out what I'm going to get with the money I'll be saving.
  9. Why get annoyed about something your not going to change? Your a pro and these lads are possibly not. Any energy you put into getting upset about this, would be better spent on thinking about how you can explain to customers how your different from these jokers. That might seem silly, but pointing out at quote stage your insured and that you take the care of the tree and safety seriously makes you look great. If they then choose to go with someone else it's their call. Ultimately, if someone were to post a vid of me trying to work on a car on a mechanics forum I'd get ripped. Doesn't mean I won't have a go. For all you know they might be homeowners. And I know.... Top handle and scabby harness.. Doesn't change the point, be proud your good and not angry others re bad.
  10. I think there is a rule about slagging off other peoples work... I was doing my best there! Anyway, why does that bother you? Just let them get on with it, and wait for them to die or get taken to court for trashing someone's car/house.
  11. 3 doesn't seem too excessive. Although, that said I can see why your annoyed. It just happens, just live with it and move on.
  12. Just to balance this and for clarity. It's perfectly possibly to redirect a physical landline through to a mobile. However unless you have an office which is staffed usually, this is pointless and not cost effective. Also to note, I've had plenty of customers who told me they called me as they could see from my number I was local. Just look at what all the rogue traders/cowboy builders and trading standards types say to the public about mobile only firms!
  13. What you need is a virtual telephone landline number. This will forward all of your calls through to your number, and will be much cheaper than a physical landline. Can't see what the problem with this Mr Blair. It's no different to anything else which makes you look professional, like uniformed shirts for subbies working for you...
  14. Even though mine is working OK atm... I reget buying this saw, like I do boning the girl who gave me herpes... Why or why, did Stihl send out a saw which is so clearly not ready for market??? It's just a shame I know about how bad the 560xp was... or I'd seriously consider moving over to the dark side (husky).
  15. I've not been on this forum for long but even I've seen this gone over thousands of times. If your going to buy new then you will struggle to get a 260 as they have replaced it with the 261. Anyway, I've got quite a few 261s and the only reason is that I like the stihl self filler caps for the combi. Go with the 346
  16. Fair play. I wasn't saying that you need to return it a few times though... I was saying you need to retune it a few times. Not sure why but it seems to come untunes after about 10 tankfulls of fuel. However apart from that and the chain, I've decided its a better saw than the 200 lol. When it's cutting well it is a lot faster cutting, its lighter and you dont have to refuel it as often. but thats just my opinion. And also the only thing I didnt like about the chain that came with it was that it got blunt really quickly, and I aint talking about hitting durt, it just got dull from work. I'm pretty sure in 12/24 months most people will be using them, and will love them. A few teething problems that need sorting. And in regards to the husky... Well I know that everyone loves them, but they look too fragile too me. Lots of bits to break. So even if it was a stormer of a saw I wouldnt want a climbing one which will get abused daily.
  17. I've probably missed a lot. And I'm generalising and arguable being racist (if you consider travellers a race). But cry me a river, mate can mean a lot of things and I stand by what I said.
  18. I was only joking fella. And there is nothing wrong with anyone earning a decent wedge. Love it when I'm home early as well. Not gonna lie though, not a chance in hell I'd work for or with travellers.
  19. And your really considering buying them... Your either really struggling for cash or mental.
  20. So he's probs billed 500 for the job and as a bonus had a chance to scout out what gear you have worth nicking.
  21. Might be of interest to a few. I had a 201t sent it back got a new one. Was fine for a while then went the same way... Thought it was just an utterly crap saw and I was gonna have to live with it. However after retuning it and properly running it in again it is actually working really well. Don't like the chain it comes with, so ive just chucked it in the shed and put on a semichisle... I really think people should try retuning the saw a few times and they might find it's actually ok.
  22. You charge double because you drop everything with no notice and leave your friends and family on the only day you have off per week (at least for those off us who work Saturdays usually). You also charge double because the insurance company are going to foot the bill! Finally it's standard amongst all trades... Try getting a plumber to come out on a Sunday and you will soon realise.
  23. To be honest, I'd want you todo it all. Both the saws are under warranty so might have to wait a bit for them. Still would be interested in a price so I can take it into account for other saws.
  24. How much would you charge to do it? I'm thinking of doing the 261 or 201t cos it's so gutless. Just wondered how much it would cost me?
