  1. I'm more offended that he's selling that with a 20 inch bar than anything. A fool is easily parted with their money.
  2. Have you considered the problems that would cause... Customers would ask if there rope would fit, they would have to have a list of approved splices, the shops would have to inspect splices... It would be a headache. A much simpler solution is to engineer a way of opening up the cocoon to put the rope in. This would have two advantages 1) would fit all splices, 2) youd be able to attatch is midline, so install a line for someone else easily. (although I have to admit that I don't think number 2 would be any help to me. On another note - well I tred the rg with the sjack today... lefs just say my boxers arnt white anymore. Admittedly I was using a subbies rope which didn't have a splice on, so I had to tie a bowline to attatch to the rope to the crab. This meant I couldnt use the wooden block... Not a big deal you think, but I didnt notice til I was 70 foot in the air. Getting down using just the handle a bit, and my hands has led to a phobia and rope burns.
  3. If you use a 260 as a general climbing saw, I'd suggest you invested in another topper. I don't get this thread... Why make life harder for yourself? If you really want to do all this work positioning stuff (never use a saw one handed...) then just use both hands on the topper. It's called the arborist/climbing saw for a reason.
  4. And see the result that Steve and the arbtalk crew have achieved... Still very tight but perfectly useable.
  5. Looks like a decent job. I definitely wouldn't have climbed it. But then im a girl and wouldn't have put the bucket right below that limb looking at how sketchy some of it looks. Now all you need to do is advertise that top quality timber for the milling crew to come and take away for you.
  6. Completely agree for changeovers. However I took this into consideration when I brought it, compared it to the lockjack and decided I could live with it.
  7. It's not designed too though. Id just leave the sj on my climbing line permanently so can't see a problem with that.
  8. Its more like the first one. The rope is about 3 months old... It's not quite as clumpy as the one shown. Tbh I like the sheath feature as any sort of damage would make me cut the splice straight off due to the amount of pressure exerted there. I have no idea how to splice and don't know anyone who would do it... The local places around here won't for insurance reasons. And I won't be waiting and using this rope for a few months waiting. I only climb a few days a week tops, but this would drive me bad. Would rather have the rope as a Spaire or let younger college guys use it as they seem to have none of there own kit when they do the odd days work . I've emailed it to Steve so if he has time he might post it.
  9. It don't want to work with my iPad... Can I email it to you?
  10. I'm told that works badly with the spider jack. Like I said, I'd rath just get the right rope for the job. In relative terms over its like they cost peanuts. If you can read that your smarter than me... iPads turn people dyslexic.
  11. In that case I take it back about art. I wont be cutting bits of my rope, I'd rather spend a couple of hundred quid on a new rope than to wory about it. I dont know enough about rope construction to take it apart.
  12. I've been told they are not as strong. Probs rubbish, but I just have avoided them in the past.
  13. Taken that into account. And also have read skyhuck and what he has to pay about not at thick as 26mm. However I truly don't think that any sort of reasonable splice will fit through it. By the letter of the law and politicians arguments your correct. However I see art as a company who produce stuff to make your life easier... Having to pull all your rope through, clearly doesn't do that. If they simply stated that it's for 11mm line or developed a way of opening up the cocoon would make the product much better. And my way of business is to be honest about what I can do... If I do a bad job I might get paid but it's not a long view way to do business.
  14. Spliced. If it helps I can post a pic. I wouldn't use a sewn eye as my main line attachment.
  15. Just to confirm. There is no way that ANY 13mm rope splice can go though this device. I've tried folding the rope in half and squeezing it really tight and even standing on it and it just won't fit. You don't have 26mm of clearance in the cocoon. By no way, even pulling and tugging, the rope cannot physically get through. It's a shame, cos this is the only thing letting it down. And I think this is a big shame as ART claim this to be 13mm compatible. I'll still use it, and I'll buy an 11mm rope to fit it, but to claim a product is compatible when it clearly isn't is wrong. It's like you telling a customer you will thin a tree, take the cash then get there and say you can only fell it.
  16. Yes. It's one of those factory splices that come with ropes... I'm not every fussed. Although I was hoping to stick to a 13mm rope as I'm soft and struggle to grip the 11mm stuff and find it cuts my hands up.
  17. Would incorporate a way to open up the cocoon though couldn't they Steve.. So far I think its quality. But to not look for improvements just stops advancement.
  18. Umm more likely to be the rope. It's well put together, although I've already seen a few things I think could be improved. Also everyone who says you can't just drop it out of a tree... Well as long as its not landing on cement or Tarmac I'd happily drop it, doesnt look that soft to me, but then I'm not overly precious with kit as I see it as a tool to get the job done.
  19. These is no way on this planet I'm getting my 13mm Marlowe rope through it. Thanks though
  20. Right... That helps. Looks like I'm gonna have try the other ropes at work tomorrow. If none of them work, I'll buy a new one. Cos I can't do with pulling 45m of rope through every time I install it. Thanks
  21. Mine arrived today, and my spliced end won't fit through the cocoon. Which means I'll have to climb the tree, install the rg then pull the end of my line up and feed it all through. Obviously, this is not ideal. So I wondered if all ropes do this, or if your fancy 11mm ones work better. Thank you, much love and goodnight.
  22. Quality. I assumed there would be a silly cost to do this. What sort of notice do you have to give them?
  23. Right gonna show my ignorance. Do the power companies charge to turn the lines off or deal with this?
