  1. Fain enough.don't wanna bore you, but do you find it bogs down really easily as well. I was cutting up a pallet for a fire and found it kept getting jammed up.
  2. I ordered it of fr jones. Really great company, but the drive to London and then not having a topper for a while don't seem appealing. Was hoping it was a simple tuning problem?
  3. Nah, wish it was that simple. Chain isnt slack but it's def not tight.
  4. Hey, basically I want to know if any of you guys know of a simple cure for this. When the saw is started, and you hold the throttle down the chain doesn't move for a while, originally this can be up to 5 to10 seconds. Once it's warmed up there is still a lag but it's now just a couple of seconds. This is a brand new saw, ive checked to see if the sprocket has anything blocking it but it doesn't. Thanks
  5. Got both of mine today. Gave it a go... Glad I didn't pay for it. Chain from new cut poorly. I intentionally ran it into earth to test, and when I sharpened it, it cut like trash! Nice gloves though.
  6. Depends if you want to. If he works hard and is keen then I'd try and get him straight. However it's a bit scary that he has been doing it at college for two years and doesn't know the difference between a flat file and a round one... I'd be a lot more concerned about that rather than his ident issues.
  7. Evidently he doesnt have tickets . Stop being a mug and sack him if your serious. People are begging for work out of college on here...
  8. You really wan't a pro saw. Your going to be using it everyday (hopefully), saving a days wages now might seem like a good idea, however when your sweating and it isn't working well then your going to realise it's false economy. If you can't afford to buy a saw now, then that's fine. Just wait til you can afford one.
  9. Or - "give me a go and pay me what I'm worth. That way you get some money if you work hard.
  10. Umm I'm probably not the best person to give you advice. So feel free to ignore it. However I don't think a saw would make a difference to your employment prospects. The thing is, when companies take on a job they know what equipment they have, if they let you bring in your own and it doesn't work they are ******. Similarly if they let you bring one in it would invalidate atleast my insurance... I know it's ****. However keep pressing. Call up all the companies. Ask to meet up with the boss'. Generally they are decent people. However they are also busy, and they get a lot of people who do a one year nc out of school coming along asking for work all the time. Show them you really are passionate, tell them to give you one day to prove yourself and show them how hard you can work... I'd be impressed if someone called me and said that, infact I'd find a day just to see if they were that good. Letters are too easy to throw into the bin. You will learn a lot more working with other people with more experience than just rushing into private work as well. The experience is what you are really desperate for at the moment!
  11. Your right. About £450 is what you would need to spend on a decent saw. If you go for one its worth getting the 60cc versions rather than the 50 cc as it will give you scope to stick an 18" bar on without worrying. So i'd be looking at f r jones and the 362... Also that saw looks like a dog. He knows enough to check the compression but says it could do with a service... After 2 weeks that thing is going to be cutting out and causing any buyer a real headache. Anyway, back to money. There is an easy solution. Call up all the tree/landscaping companies in your area. Ask to speak to the boss, tell them your keen as mustard have your ground tickets and wondered if they could give you some experience. If you work hard a monkey has to be worth £50 a day... And on top of that, I let anyone who I like who works for me borrow my gear to do private work. I win cos they are happy, stay with me and can top up there wage without a payrise, and they win because they get some extra money without the outlay.
  12. If you don't want to put a link then how are people meant to be able to work out if it's worth decent money or pennies? Also the 260 is now obsolete, they have upgraded it to the 261. What are you going to be using it for? As you have done tickets, I am guessing it's for some form of work. And if that's the case get a new one. A hundred quid saved now will quickly be lost when it decided to not start, at least with new you have the warranty and the knowledge that your the only person to have abused it. Sorry, I know that was completely unhelpful.
  13. Fair enough. It's not what I do, so I couldnt really compare my work to this. However it truly is an awful job. I'll try and get some more pics to prove this if I can. The tree has just been hacked to bits, like branches have been just randomly cut with no thought to growth points.
  14. No. I was trying to be sarcastic. Didn't really work.
  15. Then why dont you call up some people who will come and tell you how much they want for free! They are going to be in a much better position to tell you how much it will cost and what the difficulties are than an internet forum!
  16. Right some people have taken this the wrong way. I didn't do that to the tree... I could only take one photo on the iphone but I can promise you it looks a lot lot worst in real life. Customer has just brought the house and the last owners did this to 3 of the trees before moving out... I think the crowning moment was when I noticed the saw left in the tree! All the cuts are tjust random, hasn't even cut it to growth points. And it's in a conservation area and clearly has been cowboyed!
  17. Really proud of this. Ignore the saw left in the tree, I forgot about it! http://img508.imageshack.us/img508/1599/img0001xs.jpg' alt='img0001xs.jpg'> Uploaded with ImageShack.us[/img]
  18. No offence taken. With my own guys I only deal with stuff on the ground. However I don't see how it is so much more difficult to work out how long it will take to climb a tree and knock of the limbs as apposed to just felling it and working it on the ground. I might be wrong. I also do a lot of hedge removals/reductions and fencing. Perhaps not as many variables, but I still think the principle stands, you should be able to tell how long something will take reasonably accurately with the exception of something completely out of the ordinary occuring.
  19. Do people really find pricing that difficult? With any level of experience you can work out how long something is going to take. So from that work it on half a day or a full day. Then add on the cost of waste and your fine. If you need to rent in any equipment then add that as well. Never tell a customer that you are pricing it for a days work. Because you will end up having to piss around wasting time if everything goes well. Just price the job and give them that.
  20. Thanks guys. Sadly the L screw isnt solving the problem. Seem's like it might be time to condemn this little old saw. It's a shame cos when it does start it's more that good enough to do what I need... Spudulike - i'll give your idea a shot tomorrow and see if it works. Did ask at local dealer about cost of them looking at it and service etc... about the £80 mark for a saw that's newer replacement can be purchased for £250... No chance in hell with the chain and bar it's got on it.
  21. It's not bent. I will attempt to try the L screw.
  22. Checked the choke, its closing tight. infact I took the carb of to check this. And the throttle is opening when trigger pulled. I will try playing with the L screw now. Thanks
  23. The saw was fine when it was going. It doesnt race at idle, but sits nicely. It also has plenty of power for a little saw.
  24. I thought as much... Basically it will fire under very certain circumstances. However it makes your arms feel like they want to fall off and takes a couple of hours (i'm not taking the mick). You just have to keep cranking it with the throttle open... I've only managed to start it twice, both with help from arborist mates. I have brought a new ms261, but would like to be able to have it as a backup. Any idea how much it would cost to sort the compression out? Don't want to spend a lot as I've got another bigger saw, and in reality it's a bit of a dog anyway. Thanks
