  1. I dont think he lives in waltham chase... his names cole and hes about 24. A really good guy, he did my website for me. Winchester is just a small place. I worked with his made James who was doing a patio for me about a week ago. And he subbies to bob hampton a lot and works with a good mate of mine. I actually called jack last week seeing if he'd be willing to move some sleepers for me with his transit in kingsworthy but he never called me back... either way. hope business is good. didn't know his brother did arb?
  2. You want the name of a good guy I know in Winchester? He does all the big sites for holiday companies, but will do it for a really reasonable price cash in hand outside of work. And if your Jack's brother, it helps that he lives in Badger Farm. Might be half an idea to have a chat with him anyway.
  3. You could slip, you could drop your saw... Ther are plenty f purely hypothetical situations where it can and has happened.
  4. I'd certainly be interested with the results. If someone told me they had been watching and had done nothing to stop it, I'd have been pretty close to hitting him. At the end of the day I'd rather be too safe than risk a death, or terrible injury.
  5. I'd have thought that the rope would just be a mess at the end. Completely interested in the result though. Go for it... Hope you fired the grounds though. Anyone that stupid shouldn't be on site.
  6. Anyone who climbs without chainsaw boots is IMO opinion an idiot. I've seen boots hit, and the thought of a topper hitting my foot doesn't sound too attractive. I love my protector pros. Was a thread a couple of days ago where most people seemed to agree! Basically, Tey are long lasting and once worn in (go for a 3 hour trek) feel like slippers. Again without wanting to come across as arrogant and confrontational I really can't imagine anyone in their right mind not climbing with ballistic boots on.
  7. If your skin is this thin, then go and work in an office. If you think you have taken some stick on here, then wait til you make a tiny error on a site and you will be in tears needing counseling.
  8. Seems like pretty much everyone loves their protector pros. Thinking about it, kind of mad giving how if you asked about trousers this would be a 4 page debate on the morality of paying extra for stretch airs. Real quality boots, that do the job day in day out, and are super comfy.
  9. I wear haix protector pros. They have goretex in and I find they keep my feet dry. Also once they are worn in they are really comfy. If I lost them or hit them with a saw i'd buy another pair tomorrow. Only downside is that they are really quite high and can if worn with shorter socks can rub your calfs so I just wear football/rugby socks with them.
  10. A customer claiming we had poisoned her dog, when infact we never used any chemicals in the end. Apparently it was going to cost thousands in vets bills, when I requested a toxicology report I was told that was bullying and intimidating. Oh and she never payed half the bill.
  11. In fairness it does say average... So if you take the question literally all he is really asking is what on average do you charge for this type of stuff? I.E. Whats a bog standard average removal for you, which you spend 80% of your working life doing. That said, it's still a pointless question and is kind of idiotic to set. Might be better answering it with what average day rates are for climbers, groundies and plant. That actually might help you when you get into the working world.
  12. I've already filled out the claim online. It cost me £25, which if I lose I can live with. Its completely principle to me... I'm not saying £200 means nothing, but I'll end up having to take a day off work and it will lose me more than that. Also it wasn't a big job. We took down 4 20 foot cherry trees. And removed loads of shrubs. More one of those annoying jobs that something which breaks your back. However people are so so quick to slate any sort of tradesmen when they act like muppets, how about having a show about non payers and crappy customers and shaming them.
  13. Anyone got experience of this? I have for the first time had to sue someone, and honestly am not looking forward to it. Only £200, but it's the principle. I'm dealing with an accountant, and so far she has tried it on no end, including: - Claiming we poisoned the dog (we never used glysophate in the end), when I asked for a vets report apparently we were bullying her. - Claiming we didn't do what she asked us to... However two weeks after the job she claimed to be happy and wanted us to come back and turn the ground over to get the rest of the money. - Claiming that she has shown workmen before... I'm not sure I'd want to brag about shafting people over, but she seems to think it's a badge of honour. - Leaving dog **** all over the garden when we were in there. And also being stupid enough to let her tiny little dog out without telling us when we were brashing up in the garden... So yer... I know she is going to try and say we are cowboys, any advice for the small claims court from people with more untrstworthy customers?
  14. I know I'm going to get slated for saying this. But do some of you not think your going abit OTT with PPE here? Your more than likely to be cutting wood to save some money, so who go out and buy trousers when some crappy chaps would do fine. Do you really need boots? I mean if your using a saw horse what is the chance your going to drop a saw onto your foot? Finally, I'd do with some ear defenders and some glasses, but a helmet seems like overkill. Nothing is going to drop onto your head, and even in the highly unlikely case of a bit of kickback of a saw horse a plastic helmet isn't going to help you... Anyway, it's just my opinion. I think you would be better of spending the money on getting some training than trying to look like a model out of the stihl catologue.
  15. My tomtom does mine for me... Less clutter in the motor. And given I use my tomtom all the time, can't forget it!
  16. Not a bad job. But I think you need to make the telephone numbers bigger. They are your call to action.
  17. I have the 201 and if I could go back would have got a 200. Just my opinion.
  18. In other words you either pay or you get fined. The only way around this would be a judicial review and lengthly appeals, and if you can afford that your certainly not going to be driving an old hilux.
  19. Just to clear something up. Silkys would have been in scabbards, but the chainsaws won't... I don't see the point of them. I also agree if my stuff had been stolen I'd have wanted it to be recovered! However let's put this in context, this was a vehicle with sign writing on of my company name. It had my mobile on the side of it, and they never bothered to call. They also managed to leave other offensive weapons... Like clearance saws with metal heads on (massive strimmers which you can use to cut through shrubs and smaller trees, and also felcos which are pretty sharp and dangerous). Now I know a lot has been pointed out about a "known scrot"' however I don't really think that it's acceptable to take someone's work tools because you are not a fan of the person in the passenger seat. Now if said person was talking down the street with an 88 I could see the problem... However the fact that they were driving to get cigs sort off makes a mockery of the police IMO. I also want to point out I have called the police on many occasions and would do so again if I needed too, so am probably having my cake and eating it.
  20. Depends if he is after chaps or trousers though. I know he said trousers... But I wouldn't want to see some poor unfortunate soul rock up to training looking like he's an extra from a village people music video!
  21. Hi. Sorry for late response, it's because I have been working! I did get the stuff back. I asked why it was taken, and was told that any bladed instrument is illegal to carry if you don't have lawful authority! I pointed out they were tools and was told they weren't tools as my brother wasn't driving to work. I did take down all the invoices and stuff, but they wernt interested in that. All the sergeant I spoke to said was that if it had been him who stopped my brother he would have been arrested and charged! Apparently we both got off lucky. Either way, I did speak to my brother at great length. I don't think he was hobby, but was told he was also taking his friend to get some smokes, who isnt all that popular with the boys in blue! They also emptied the fuel tank, as apparently it was a fire risk!
  22. I'm waiting to go down at 9. I'll see. If I get all the kit back today, it's just a lesson learned. (I.E. never leave any sort of kit in the car when I'm not using it). If not, well it looks like I'm shafted.
