  1. Fair comment, thanks Hodge. Sadly, I can't edit a post once posted! By 'Cheap' I mean I am not put off by lowish wages as I need experience at the moment. I'm hoping to encourage someone to give me a shot by making it clear I won't demand huge pay. My work is good and certainly not 'cheap'. cheers
  2. I've passed my CS30 and 31 and am looking for some work (or even unpaid experience) in in Tree surgery or Forestry in the Greater Manchester area ideally. I'm 33, have my own PPE, can drive and am up for anything! Does anyone want an apprentice or Groundie? Am looking to do Aerial rescue course in the near future but am hoping to get some experience, and money if possible, first. Am keen, reliable, hard-working and trustworthy (if I do say so myself). Will happily shadow and observe or make tea and carry brash as needed. Looking for a foot in the door. Any help much appreciated - you won't regret it! thanks
  3. Thanks all, esp RobRainford! - Got second hand small stretch airs in good nick and they fit perfectly. Nice one
  4. Has anyone tried Lavoro boots? Am looking at Lavoro Daintree and Sherwood (class 3) and they look good value (light, flexible, good protection, waterproof and cheaper than protector pro etc) but are they rubbish? Is it worth getting a big german brand or do you pay for the label when lesser known ones are as good? Elten's seem good value too.. Am new to this gear and appreciate any advice!
  5. Thanks everyone. You lot are a helpful bunch! Appreciated as usual
  6. Hi What do people think of second hand chainsaw type C trousers? Am debating whether to get some stretch airs that may be a bit small (am a 32 / 33 waist and they are size small - too tight for climbing?) Or Oregons that have a couple of rips of the outer layer - Don't know if the inner layer has been damaged or if it's just superficial. Either would save me a bundle. Is it worth the risk or should I go for new ones to be safe?
  7. Hi Tom, Sounds like a great offer - thanks. Have PM'd you. Keen to get going ASAP! cheers Rob
  8. "If your interested PM me and I will sort something for you. TOM. " Hi Tom, That's a brilliant offer - thanks! Can we discuss more? I've just told a trainer in Widnes I'd be up for their CS30 and 31 courses in Jan but haven't signed up yet as dates not been set. Let me know if you want a phone number or email to talk more - don't know what the done thing is on this forum yet. I'd have to sort PPE, fees and travel from Manchester but am keen to start ASAP - December if possible. thanks again Rob
  9. Thanks everyone. The 6 week course does appeal but not sure I can stretch to it at that price. Myerscough is a bit cheaper than other trainers..
  10. Fair enough, Thanks Steve. Will get some training and experience asap.
  11. Hi Perkins, Thanks very much for the advice and kind offer. If I make a move I'll definitely get in touch! Meantime I'll get on with the training and hopefully get some work experience ASAP. cheers take care Rob
  12. Hi Am new to this and need advice on training. Is the college course option better/cheaper than doing several separate courses starting with CS30? Is it just down to personal preference or is one approach recommended? Seen this 6-week course too for over 5000 quid. Would get the training done quickly I suppose but is it worth the money? Any opinions? Fast Track Tree Surgery Course : Proclimber Professional Arborist Products Online, Supplies for the professional arborist Thanks a lot for any help Rob
  13. Hi all, Am new to this forum and very keen to become a tree surgeon. I'm currently doing voluntary work in Woodland Management in Manchester and about to register for courses CS30 and CS31 in January if I can't find any in December. Have learnt a little about pruning fruit trees, working in France in the past, and will do whatever it takes to get full-time work. I know it will take time and a lot of work. Would any Greater Manchester tree surgeons let me shadow for a day or so, so I can learn more? Will happily work for free. Am also after advice on training and how best to get into work. Are there apprenticeships out there? Have called a couple of local firms but had no joy so far. Have just found a 6-week course online that seems to cover the basics but costs over 5000 quid - does that seem like a good deal or not? see link Fast Track Tree Surgery Course : Proclimber Professional Arborist Products Online, Supplies for the professional arborist Any advice much appreciated Thanks Rob
