  1. Admiring the hoar: . Chasing angry robin off my saw (look closely, he's on the bar!) , he sat on the handle, with the saw running! . Defrosting facial hair more than usual: . And getting some hay out to my cows and sheep with a pallet-sledge: .
  2. http://www.surveymonkey.com/ Have a look here, free and easy...
  3. Said the one Bell to the other.... His very first line was :" Hi there, I am a young male...."
  4. +1 It won't cost anything to ask! If you can make it clear, you'll be able to pay your dues but need the truck to generate income they may well be a little more flexible. It is still a set of rules, interpreted by people, so talk to the people, don't bust yourself against the rules.
  5. My cousin used to go out with Halle Berry's body double... I know it's not even remotely relevant, but it's such a random thread I thought I'll just drop that in there
  6. I have a stihl ms180 which will spin a chain faster than that! Does not mean it'll outcut a 560 though....
  7. Looking good, so far. Are you not worried about speed, looks like it'll need a lot of oil to move those rams? Oh, I know it's a sensitive subject but... Looks like a lot of steel on not a lot of rubber...
  8. Every day's a Sunday in my life!
  9. I heard (so it may not be true, but it was from a source I respect highly) that nuclear is and never has been economically viable. Apparently no nuclear plant ever built in Europe would have ever been built had it not been for massive amounts of government subsidies. In a free market, nuclear is and never was an option.
  10. I'd add a bigger splitting table, perhaps a bit of a V shape so big rings like in the first vid won't roll off. An exit chute/conveyor, as throwing each log split will soon get boring.
  11. So, "fell" 5 m2 each quarter, then extract 20 m2 all at once.
  12. Not all progress is bad... I've heard nothing but good things about the ms241, people that have had the bearing issues sorted on their 261's rare them highly, some people really rate the 201... The 660 has not been entirely without issues, chain brake melting and such? Why not give it a chance, perhaps wait until you've tried it, or get some views from people you trust that have tried one. I find it slightly tiring to read biased opinions from people with no experience of the particular saw at all. Like some old dudes bickering in the pub about wether the lambo or the Ferrari would be better when they'll never drive either.
  13. I like the hinged nature of the thing, but it's far too small. It would need to hold at least 5times more wood and hinge in maybe 3 or 4 sections, not all individually for my liking.
  14. Oil and gas are much much higher in energy per weight/volume. Typically crude is four times as dense as green wood, three times as dense as seasoned wood and twice as much as kiln dried wood with less than 5% moisture. So much more potential energy moved per energy spent moving it.
  15. Could be wrong, but I'm not usually... I believe you can -within the rules- fell your yearly 20 m2 all at once by doing the following. Ring bark 5 m2 in each of the first three quarters, making sure they are proper dead, then in the fourth you can fell and extract 20 m2. This would be much easier for extraction etc as you can leave the trees until circumstances are just right for extraction.
  16. Thanks A, seems like there's not many (if any) about at all...
  17. I'm a hedge layer too, have been for years. Only ever do thorn hedges and never had any issues at all. No gloves apart from chain mail will stop all thorns guaranteed, but these are the ones I use and I get a prick maybe once or twice a week max when hedging. They last me about a year normally, when I used welding gauntlets I'd use a pair per week. The difference between these and welding gloves is like the difference between welding gloves and latex. Once you've tried these you'll never wear welding gloves again. http://www.safetyhut.co.uk/product.aspx?productid=207 And no, I'm not on commission.
  18. Over the past three years, I've never not started a day because of the weather. We've gone home at lunch time once. Wimps!
  19. I have a pair of cofra boots, they're crap! One of the eyelets came of in the first week, and now (3 months old) they are not quite as waterproof as my sandals...
  20. Not much chance of that, sorry. I'm away from home for the week and have no relevant pictures on my phone. I'll try and remember over the weekend.
  21. I have a 24ft yurt with a very high roof, was built especially for doing acrobatics in in its first career. I can put it up on my own, no help at all in about 2 1/2 hours. With good help it's a bit quicker, with average help about the same time and with clueless but enthusiastic help it stays down until they've left... I used to move it in and on a Peugeot 306, including the full size stable door etc. Cost £2.5K when I bought it. I also have a little 12ft one which is a delight for camping in (me, wife, two kids (5 years old) and two dogs).
  22. Nobody? Nowhere?
  23. Does anyone know of a machine like this anywhere in the country? I suppose I could travel fairly far to get one. Or is there perhaps a similar machine more commonly available?
  24. Hi all, looking to hire (purchase?) a bilke processor. It's for processing wobbly sticks of haw and blackthorn, and some ash. So I'm after one with the rotating smashy-uppy blad. I need it in Bedfordshire or Lincolnshire (site/home). Cheers, Daniel.
  25. If you want the best, there's only Fort! http://www.altradfort.nl/EN/construction.html Not cheap mind...
