  1. Even the Poles wouldn't use pine to lay a keel. Trees have been grown for keels beams and other curved timbers on ships for probably many centuries. The normal method would be to crowd trees to get them growing straight, then when they'd reached a certain height/girth clear enough space around your selected specimens to encourage growth out, not up. The amount of curve could then be managed mainly by pruning the surrounding trees.
  2. Landslide, flood, avalanche type event.
  3. Fill the oil tank with petrol, make sure the oiler is turned to max and use it for a bit, (a spark arrestor is probably advisable, but a bar of fire is very cool as well and does not burn long)
  4. Is it an Argos kitchen surface?
  5. Denmark does not have many trees, but it's not just trees that can be burnt. Problem is Denmark does not have that much of anything really, they import waste to burn in their incinerators, they import straw to burn as biomass. Though phasing out fossils seems a good plan, if it means depending on the neighbours supplying waste and biomass (produced by wasteful use of fossil fuel...) it's not really an improvement, or is it?
  6. For the record, I use aspen for any and all two-stroke engines I use. I find it silly expensive, annoyingly packed (I want 25l cans dagnammit!) and hard to get hold off (nearest dealer is 40 minutes drive away). I put up with all of that for the benefits I notice, smell/effects of the smoke, store ability and consistency of formula (although that did go a bit wrong when I was in NL, I had a batch with double dye in, staining everything) All pros and cons weighed up I find it an easy choice. But.... Why oh why does a new Aspen rep turn up to make unsubstantiated claims and give false hope about the dealer network?
  7. Aspen is the same price as well in the Netherlands. Seeing as pump fuel costs are different in all of those countries isn't that a little odd?
  8. Only one thing for it then, stop washing :bath:and live like a minger! It'll set you free
  9. 1 Yes, quite a few people have. Knowing it's a good product does not make it any cheaper though... 2, Prove it, or don't make statements like that!
  10. Does your hot water get heated electrically?
  11. I wouldn't buy that unseen... Would be ideal for bundles of billets though.
  12. So what if it falls over, a couple of hours work and the damage is fixed surely? Not worth trying to fix it before its broken IMO.
  13. I'd leave it as it is, it looks great.
  14. I'm 6'4" ish with legs that go all the way down to my boots. I wear Engelbert Strauss bib and brace trousers, they do an extra long version, are cool, comfy stretchy light and cheap. Seem to last well as well, two years of hedgelaying so far, not that much work for them in summer.
  15. Initially a fraction of the cost in £, but the ultimate cost is much higher. Added to that is that hopefully the mulch mat should keep the weeds down over the whole area, not just around the trees.
  16. How are they fixed together?
  17. Carpets are not an option, unless you have a source of about 4acres of fully biodegradable carpet? Looks like I'm going with this: http://www.jubilee-seeds.co.uk/acatalog/biodegradable_mulchmat.html Anyone got any experience/ideas about this stuff?
  18. If what your saying is true, he paid £4.7 million per cubic meter.
  19. Nice pic, do you have to deal with a lot of cases of big trees growing up through the middle of the road?
  20. At today's rate £3045 but you may not have the pay the French equivalent of vat(?) so may be cheaper.
  21. Would it be feasible to put a rope across the river a little downstream of where you're working, to grab if somebody falls in?
  22. What's the white chipper, looks like it has an oxygen cylinder bolted on? 3 picture from last.
  23. Where is it?
  24. Am I right in thinking you've been quoted £60/m2 cordwood?
  25. Looks pretty cool...!
