  1. Don't think so, I'm after vibrations, not thumping.
  2. I probably will. But if there's somebody out there that can just tell me "yes, just move the quasar-pulsator 73 degrees towards the shake-generator" or something equally helpful. It'll be less of a gamble, in case it can't be done.
  3. I want to see if I can use it as a post-driver. In the Netherlands the post-driver as used most in Britain is not widespread, most contractors use a small crane/mini digger/hiab on Mog with a vibrating block. The vibrating makes the soil behave more like a liquid, allowing the post to sink in with only a little persuasion. I want to try to put a swing-lift on a trailer, and adapt a wacker plate to drive posts by making it jump on the spot. I thought of making up a base for the wacker , with an 8" tube, 2' deep welded underneath to hold the post. I think it should work, if only I can make one not move forward.... If it does work, I can mount it on a quad-towed trailer and have a very cheap way of getting posts in in places too tight/soft/delicate for a tractor.
  4. I'm not quite sure how they work, I was thinking perhaps I could just change the timing of the weight swingie thing? I need it to just bounce, not move. Just holding it in place is not an option.
  5. Right then techno-dudes, I've a question. As far as I understand, a wacker plate works by turning an unbalanced weight? So as it turns, it lifts the whole machine up and slightly forward, them slams it down again. I don't have one to take apart, but I'm trying to find out wether I can adapt on to not go forwards, but just jumps on the spot? Could it be done, easily? Cheers.
  6. It is big: Fully grown adult: 4' spirit level:
  7. Nice to see its being used. I trust you've seen the nails in the branch that was closest to the big house? Looked like it had a sheet of tin nailed over the pruning wound? When will you next have a go at it? I'm keen to come over and have a look at what it's like, especially the centre section.
  8. Burns fantastic!
  9. One of these?
  10. Actually, you were being likened to a border collie ? In my experience spaniels are just obsessively mad, Collies are equally obsessed, BUT: they're also regarded as highly intelligent, able to learn an amazing array of things and have the ability to solve very complex problems. They are often a little socially challenged and need their commands to be worded exactly right though....
  11. I saw that, only just managed to not buy it!
  12. Once again my apologies: I foolishly named the place where you can buy stuff that's not new and has been used by someone else before a second hand shop. Now stop nitpicking and do something productive!
  13. I apologise to you and all Chagfordians, last time I was in Chagford it was a few times bigger than the village I live in. Also, last time I was in Chagford, proper job was a second hand shop?
  14. This may sound a little harsh, but I feel it needs saying. Stop moaning! You're in Chagford? Walk down the road to "proper job" and get yourself a bike. Bang, wallop, 30 mile range with very little financial outlay. Nearest train station is less than ten miles away! You live in a town with one of the country's vet best second hand shops. I bet if you explain to them why you need a bike, they'll let you pay for it when you've earned some money with it.
  15. I don't really see the point mr Murphy? There's no health and safety issues, no controversial cuts, not even the use of machines in a way the English would not approve of????
  16. Not today, just Messrs Weston's finest:biggrin:
  17. I keep thinking to get it sorted, there must be a decent assessor about to assess me first, then decide if i need any training or such then give me the stiffikut.
  18. I paid £190 or thereabouts a few weeks ago. Didn't take any lessons, just paid for the test. Took my own vehicle and livestock trailer.
  19. 560XP, Simples! Thread closed
  20. I've no tickets, been working trees and hedges for twenty-odd years.
  21. Maths: Say you use 3 saws, daily. They'll have cost a little over £700 each. Total cost of three saws, £2200. At two years old, they'll be worth at least half as much, so £1100. You don't want to work too hard so you use them for 175 days a year, slightly less than every other day. So 2200 outlay Minus 1100 resale value =1100 cost over two years. Two years is 350 working days. 1100/350= £3.14 So each saw cost you just over a pound per day of use, using very low resale values. Count on two years, every day longer is nice.
  22. Two years. After that you're out of warranty. If it lasts longer, nice! But budget for two years max
  23. Can't be that surely? Trigger is in the handle with no way out, and certainly no way to the flywheel?
  24. Seems like you just need to make sure the bar groove is clean, clear and the right size and make sure the oiler holes join up.
